Perhaps it was just the room we were given. It was clean, and the bed was comfortable, but there was very, very little space. Not much surface space. The sink was a free standing one next to the bed - the toilet had a separate section, and the shower had a separate section. First floor, just to the right of the door from the reception area, facing the pool. The air conditioner worked great. At night, the area was very quiet. Perhaps had we had a larger room, with a bathroom that wasn't "in" the room and some more surface for toiletries, etc., we would have been happier. In all, it was friendly and funky and possibly our expectations of a B & B in Key West were inaccurate.

You either get it....or you don't. There's a reason so many of us return time and time again. If you get it, it's like returning to your friend's home in paradise for a visit. Arriving from the airport or the road there is a feeling of "Ahhhh, I'm home." You're greeted warmly and welcomed. You know you have friends in Key West. (That's a good thing!) The funk and charm are part of the air at Eden House. I can't say enough about the front desk, maintenance and cleaning staff. Pasha we love you!!! I saw one review that complained about a dirty room! NO WAY!! Didn't Happen!!! The place is immaculate! The front porch is perfect for people watching, a smoke, if you're so inclined, and conversation with who ever pops in. Once you sink into one of the chairs........ The pool is so inviting that you may arrive with thoughts of lots of running around and sight seeing, but then decide you'll live longer if you relax instead. (I may live forever!) You may take a late night swim, but, please respect quiet time. And if there is too much noise, no need to suffer. Management wants to know if there is a problem. It will be addressed. Then there are the hammocks, the soothing sounds of the waterfalls and windchimes. We open all of our windows so with the almost constant breezes, we don't even need to use the A.C. . There are some amazing, wonderful restaurants within just a couple of blocks. Cafe Sole, Michael's, Finnigan's Wake and of course, Cafe Med. Ahhhh. Can't wait to return. I love you guys!!!

If there wasn't someone named Mike Eden (and not having met him, I can't prove there is), Eden House would still deserve the name because of its similarity to that Biblical place from which Adam and Eve were booted. This isn't hyperbole: Eden House is unique in that everthing seems right. It's difficult to imagine how one could improve the place.

Okay, there are a few things and I'll deal with them first. The official explanation for the shelving for your clothes instead of bureaus with drawers is because of the humidity. Maybe so, but more shelves would be helpful, particularly if you're traveling further on after your Key West stay, as we were. A few extra hooks in the bathroom would assist with wet bathing suits, bath towels, etc. And the morning person staffing the desk should be assured that smiling or otherwise acknowledging her guests is not fatal. Perhaps she's not a morning person, and that's why they've put her on duty when guests won't be checking in.

And that's it for the nitpicking. Everything else is exactly as it should be. Eden House is a short distance from Duval Street, the historic seaport, Mallory Square, and plenty of memorable restaurants. But with its shaded hammocks, excellent if modestly-sized pool (which is uniquely landscaped and actually better than it looks on their website), jacuzzi, and gardens that surround guests with tropical atmosphere, Eden House is itself an attraction. You'll be surprised at how enlightening lying in a hammock watching the courtship of lizards on a palm tree can be.

Keep in mind, however, that Eden House is not really designed for the young and rowdy. While the proprietor's request for quiet at nighttime might be construed as an impediment to fun by spring breakers, it didn't cramp our style in the least. We had our fill of that type of diversion on and around Duval Street, and appreciated the quiet serenity of relaxing in the jacuzzi after a busy day of sightseeing and barhopping.

Although the pool and jacuzzi are officially closed after 10 p.m., they'll permit later swims if you promise to be quiet. "If we can't hear you, we can't see you" is how the sign reads. Heck, they'll even hand you a towel!

Our room was on the second floor, and it featured a porch swing outside the door and a good view overlooking Fleming Street. We've stayed in larger hotel rooms, but they weren't in Key West and they weren't at the reasonable price we paid for this one. I'm sure there are fancier accommodations in Key West with bigger rooms and the sterile environment of a chain hotel, but if you stay at one of those you'll be missing the true flavor of this unique island.

Eden House gets it just right.

I walked into the hotel and once i had booked in, i was given a free drink on the house, a very nice touch that doesnt happen that much. the room was great with very good air con.

The whole place is perfect and the best bit it is a ten minute walk from duval st, you dont want to stay close to duval or you woudn't get any sleep!! Bars are open to 4am!

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is going.

My wife and I have stayed at the Eden house once a year for the past seven years. Our stays have ranged in length from three to six nights in length.I can say, without a doubt, that we can't wait to return this year for our longest stay of eight nights. I have visited over 35 states and hundreds of hotels and I can say this is the most unique, relaxing hotel experience there is. The Eden house is not a five star resort or even pretends to be one, but is the perfect embodiment of the Key West style. The staff is the most friendly and helpful I have ever interacted with and they make you feel just like one of the gang. Mike (the owner) visits with geusts and takes a keen interest in helping you forget the outside world. On one occasion when they found out my wife was pregnant they suprised us with a painting of the Eden house, two wine glasses and a bottle of apple cider. The rooms are some of the cleanest and are designed to help you relax and feel as if you are a part of the tropical landscape. They are somewhat small, but you can stay in your room at home. The hot tub, pool , hammocks, water falls and gazebo can relax some of the most stressed out proffesionals (trust me, I married one). The Eden house is a great place to meet people from all the world and enjoy a conversation by the pool. Its location lends to a quiet feel, but is close enough to Duval if the party urge hits you. the Eden house is also very close to a few great restaraunts. If you love your plasma TV, Blacberry and jet set lifestyle this is not the place for you, but if you want to unwind this is the ultimate place in all of Florida.

We stayed for two nights in April and had a great time. Staff was great. It was relaxed and not stuffy. Orginaly when we checked in we thought the room was small but once we were there it was fine. We only slept there anyway. We'd certainly go back and and planning to next year for a full week.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Relax In Old Town Key West! The Eden House's first priority has been to maintain a clean inn, offer a comfortable bed, reasonable rates and have a staff that cares. Next comes the heated pool and Jacuzzi, hammocks, porch swings, waterfalls, sundeck, free off-street parking, café and lush gardens. We will have a cold drink for you at check-in and our daily complimentary 'happy hour' is poolside. Then at 10 PM we will dim the lights and let you get a good nights rest. Our night staff will not put a mint on your pillow but they will walk the grounds to insure that you won't be disturbed. I have owned and managed the Eden House for 27 years. I like to think that my staff and me do the 'little' things that will make your stay in Key West a memorable one. Key West is notorious for it's nightlife. Whether it is a sunset sail, a snorkel or kayak trip or deep water and flats fishing, the waters of the Florida Keys are like no other. Just let us know when you want to go.Grab a good book and a drink and I'll see you in the hammock area. ... more   less
