“Affordable, great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 March 2013

This was our 3rd stay at Island City House and we loved it. The location is worth every penny. A short walk to Duval or the Wharf - especially to B.O.s Fishwagon! We were in Room 1 this time, a 2 bedroom on Eaton Street. We share it with another couple, so it was affordable. The rooms were clean, the kitchen is great because you can have a quick meal and also stock up the fridge to save some $$.
Staff was very friendly and helpful.

What a beautiful and well cared for property! This bed and breakfast has three homes with a common backyard area. All properties in old Key West are small. Island City House makes incredible use of the space they have. The landscaping is lush, tropical, with many palm trees. Our room was much larger than expected. There was a seating area, kitchenette with microwave, range, refrigerator and dishes. We even had a porch with a porch swing. The bed was comfortable and the unit and entire property were very clean.

The "help yourself" breakfast was served outdoors, near a fountain and garden area. One could eat there or take the food up to your room. We choose to enjoy the lovely outdoor setting. One of the hotel cats even joined us. Breakfast consisted of coffee, tea, juice, yogurt, granola bars, assortment of breads (with toaster available), danishes and a couple of choices of fresh fruit.

While we didn't have time to enjoy the pool, it looked well cared for, did have sun exposure and there were lounge chairs and tables surrounding it.

The location of Island City House is great, but be prepared to do a lot of walking. The main commercial area of Old Key West, Duval Street and Mallory Square are about a 10 minute walk away as is the waterfront area. It's a lively area filled with restaurants, bars, shops. Island City House is far enough away to be peaceful. Our second floor unit fronted on Eaton Street, which does get a lot of traffic, but didn't bother us.

Riding bicycles is very popular to do, and rentals are available. The streets are quite narrow, so for me, I didn't feel comfortable riding.

Parking a car is a challenge. Most homes in Old Key West do not have driveways. On-street parking is the norm. There are spots marked for residents and handicapped. Finding a spot for our rental took about 15 minutes of driving up and down many streets. We got lucky and found a spot about 4 blocks away from the Island City House. We decided we would not move the car and would just walk wherever we wanted to go. There are a couple of parking ramp garages available, but I don't know if they offer overnight parking.

The staff at Island City House were friendly and helpful. We will definitely come back again.

The location was excellent and breakfast was nice. But the rooms were not updated, old, beds were squeaking and it did not justify the price.i would recommend to find cheaper alternatives in the area, or one that delivers what you pay for.

this is a lovely hotel. we had room number five and it was great and full of character. our balcony had a swing seat and a chair. the pool area is very nice and well maintained. breakfast is served from a cart in the garden. quite basic with bagels etc but perfectly nice. staff are very friendly.
very close to all the restaurants and bars.
the only problem is the parking. no hotel parking and the on street parking is minimal. however my advice is to go straight to the public carpark near james street. you can park there for 16.50 dollars for every 24 hours. it is a 5 min walk to the hotel. park there and save yourself a whole heap of stress.
we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

Knew this place would be good from the glowing reviews but it was far beyond what we imagined. Luckily for us we got a great room, number 11, up at the top of the Cigar House annex. Little balcony overlooking the pool and main house. Felt like our own little tree house.
Breakfast from the cart was simple but good and the location is perfect in a lovely old part of town, away from the noise of Duval, but near enough if you want to venture in. Highly recommended.

excellent location especially if you want to walk or bike through out the island, Key West is expensive and this location is no different, boring standard breakfast with no variety, nice heated pool, has a nice roof top to see the sunset, we traveled with another couple and had both top floor suites that had an adjoining door, will definitely stay here again

Just stayed for 3 nights in a 2 bedroom suite. Nice place, great location, but for $420 per night and no happy hour and limited breakfast...a bit pricey. We had a very nice porch that we used quite a bit for ready, drinking and visiting.

Room Tip: Rooms not on Eaton St. will be have less traffic.
