If you are looking for quiet, tranquil amongst the hoopla, this is for you. I am extremely picky when choosing a place to lay my head, and this hotel was everything I needed to make me feel comfortable. The cafe on the beach Was an added perk if you are looking for the rowdy atmosphere try weztin, ocean key or Hyatt. I will say the west in is in a perfect spot for beautiful sunsets but can be a hassle when cruise ships dock in front of the hotel. Try latitudes on sunset key for an absolute front row seat to view the sunset an enjoy a romantic dinner. We will be back to southernmost hotel on the beach too..

We paid the extra for a room with a view and we're not disappointed. Waking up every morning looking out into the ocean was lovely
Room was good and functional with comfy big bed
The facilities are fab with a large pool and several quiet nooks and crannies to soak up the rays.
The beach area is public but was never packed.
The hotel has a restaurant on the beach which we used several times for good breakfasts and even better evening meals. Maybe it was the exchange rate £/$ but we found it very reasonable
The rooms are expensive so search a deal. We used some airline reward points to keep the cost down

Just back from an incredible holiday at this wonderful hotel. This was our 7th stay (twice in the last year) and the long journey from the UK is always worth it. Most of the staff we have got to know and love are still there and they cant do enough for you to try to make your holiday the best. Greg - the pool cabana man always ready to improve your day by the pool and what a wonderful job he does...bringing you towels, iced water, dancing and always happy...a joy to spend the day with him! Mike the activities director is a really funny and nice guy - Mike does a great job at co-ordinating the activities and entertainment - from the cannonball contest, to the bingo. Activities take up a small portion of the day by the pool so for those of you who don't like activities, they won't disrupt your day and for those who do, they are fun and entertaining. Mike sorts out the music entertainment each day. Most of the musicians are great and they play most days for about 4 hours. You can also use the other pools on the property such as the Tranquility pool which is music free should you so wish. Now, Mike's arranged soothing chilled music on the West Lawn each evening for you to sit and relax to...the harpist Robin was amazing and so talented. Her music really moved me. Then there's Michel and Daniel (pool/activities team), Meghan and James (bartenders) - all there to make your day the best and they did a great job. And the lovely Omar at the Pineapple pool - such a sweet man. Last but definitely not least, there's the lovely Wally and of course, Dexter - your wonderful front desk staff who cannot do enough for you. We consider all of them friends now, not just hotel staff. I cannot express how amazing this hotel is. This is why we keep coming back. The rooms are spacious and spotless, as is the whole property. The maids (thanks Lisette) work so hard and standards are very high. The hotel is right next to the beach cafe (I will review in it's own review) - a perfect combination. For us, nothing has changed. And that's the way we like it.
Except the rates! Our rates have doubled since last year. But what are we paying so much extra for? The service was superb then and is now. It can't get much better. The hotel has been taken over by a large corporation, Highgate and they seem not to care so much about their regular, loyal guests as much as their profit. The staff however care very much about their regular loyal guests and this is putting them under pressure as they are upset seeing many of the people they love who are staying elsewhere and not returning. We met with Matt the GM, and he was very understanding of our concerns but his hands are tied - he has to answer to Highgate. Its just not right/fair.
So Highgate, the Southernmost on the Beach and the people who work there are very special to us and a lot of others, and because of the increase in rates, there are a LOT of regular guests who aren't returning. This upsets the staff and us as guests. We WANT so much to come back but if the rates keep going up we wont be able to! Simple as that! Please listen to your Trip Advisor and Facebook reviews! We understand profit is important and expect an annual increase but not to the levels you have instigated (doubled in a year!) I can't bear the thought of not being able to go back to what we consider is our special hotel, but that day will sadly arrive sooner than we'd like if your rates keep rising. Because of this I cannot rate the value section of this review. The service cannot be better, but the amount we're paying is astronomical and we had this level of service for a lot less before Highgate took over. Will we be back next year? This year was a struggle because of the rates so who knows?

Room Tip: Block C - West Lawn lovely.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our resort. I am so pleased to read that you have enjoyed our property over the years, sometimes more than once a year! Your kind words for so many of our staff members are truly appreciated. I know that every member of our team works diligently to ensure that every guest has the time of their life while staying with us but it is always nice to hear their praises sung. I realize our pricing has increased over the last 12 months and I apologize if this may mean you will not be able to stay with us in the future. The company that now manages us feels strongly that our property is a very special and worthy piece of paradise. While that does give the members of our team a great sense of pride, sadly we understand some of our long time guests may decide not to return to us in the future. I sincerely hope you will check back with us from time to time and speak to one of our onsite reservationists for any specials or promotions we may have that may make a future stay with us possible. Thank you again for taking the time to write your review and we do hope to see you next year.

My husband and I were there for a small wedding. It was our first time to Key West. The resort is beautiful. The grounds are kept in meticulous condition. Our room, which was Southernmost Hotel (not the ones on the water), was nice but had a bad mildew smell. I'm guessing it was from the air conditioner? We were going to say something but decided not to. We weren't in the room very much. The pools are great. They provide you with beach towels so you don't have to pack one. I met one of the greatest bartenders at the Sand Bar, which is the bar on the ocean, near the pier that jets out. His name is Mark Patterson. He deserves 5 stars. Very professional, so friendly and bends over backwards for your every need. He makes a great mango colada! Make sure you see him. The Beach Cafe is great too. Wonderful food and FAST!! We ate there almost every morning. You can't beat having breakfast overlooking the ocean. I will definitely come back and stay, but hope to find a discount or coupon of some sort. It's pricey.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our property. I'm happy to read that you and your husband enjoyed your time with us for the wedding you attended, but please allow me to apologize for the odor you noticed. We appreciate your feedback and I would be grateful if you would contact me and let me know which room you were in so our Housekeeping and Engineering Departments can resolve this issue. Your kind words for Mark are greatly appreciated and we will be sure to share them with him. A great quality hotel right on the beach at the southern most point is the USA. The hotel is part of a small collection of hotels in the local area with the "on the beach" being the one closest to the ocean. Although the hotels collectively are quite large they all have their own unique style and are very well maintained. The staff are friendly and the concierge is happy to arrange any trips, bike rentals and restaurant bookings you may need.

We rented bikes for the duration of our stay. It's the best way of getting around as everything is in easy reach and being a small island very flat. The bikes were available directly from the hotel at only $8/day, which is pretty good.

Out room was a 'distant ocean view' room and was on the top floor looking out over the car park and pool to the beach and ocean. That makes it sound bad, but, it's a great room and the view is loverly to wake up to.

Car parking is free at the hotel, which is fortunate as parking on the street is charged in just about all of Key West, making bikes even more worth while.

The swimming pool was great and open to 10pm.

The only downside of the hotel is it's on the far side of the island from most of the attractions. But for a romantic get away it's ideal.

Room Tip: Distant ocean view rooms are very good, but for the ultimate go for an ocean view room.
