“Worst place to stay”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2007

I contacted the property and they seemed very helpful but all that changed when I arrive to check in. The clerk seemed upset and we did not feel welcome since the time we check in. We entered the room and it was too small, smelly, and it had the smallest bathroom I have ever seen. (We did not get to see a picture of the bathroom online and did not receive the literature requested at time of booking).
The sheets were not changed the next morning (same stains-same spots), the bedspread smelled horrible and the towels given to us by the housekepper had red and orange stains. Gross! Beware of that place!

our stay in june 2007 was terrible. room was too small.
bed and pillow lumpy. blanket smelled like B.O.
No room service. Only one electrical outlet worked,
next to the toilet. had to iron on the toilet seat.
no sitting area-no shelves or counters. no
chair. no phone. would not recommend again.
pole in front of the t.v. very pricey.

My husband and I were staying in Marathon but decided that we wanted to spend one night in Key West. We chose the Wicker House because of its location. It is right on Duval St. Our room was spotless. I could smell bleach when we opened the door....You could tell they really cleaned the rooms. Our room was very comfy. It had a small kitchenette and a large bathroom with jacuzzi tub. The decor was very nice. The grounds were very tropical. Other people staying at the house were very friendly. Check in was very quick and the staff was very friendly. They serve breakfast by the pool in the mornings...we slept too late and missed it. They also have a little play house for kids. However, I don't think Duval St. is a place for kids. There is a lot of partying, drinking...ect....which is why we missed breakfast! We had a great time. I recommend the Wicker House.

What a fab place this is to stay. Think of the hustle & bustle of Duval Street and where better to escape than the tranquil spot of the Wicker Guesthouse. The rooms are in small guesthouses surrounding the pool area. Rooms are large and airy, well equipped and clean. The pool area is good size was fairly quite when we stayed there so we had it to ourselves one day. Breakfast continental style is fab, lots of choice and keeps you full until a late lunch beckons. Parking is free, bike hire is round the corner and the location for Duval street highlights is great. Would recommend this to everyone.

Loved it! Loved it! Loved It! This is our fourth time to Key West, but no more staying at over rated hotel ..this is the way to go. The location on Duval is great, towards the quiet end but once on the grounds, you wouldn't even know bustling Duval is a few steps away. From making reservations, to arriving, to checking out, all staff members were very friendly; room was quaint and clean; pool was nice & relaxing, where we met a lot of nice, fun people (Rhode Island, Hanover, Richmond.). We were on a short three night road trip but are already making plans to return. Some of the guests have been staying at the Wicker for several years, so that in itself is a good recommendation. Definately check out the website with information and up- to- date photo's.

We stayed at the front "suite" on Duval Street on the recommendation of one of the reviews on this site. Too noisy, so we changed rooms after two nights. To be fair the reservations had warned us that this
room was noisy but we had no idea just how noisy having never been to
Key West before (think motorcycles and drunken whoops, not just ambient city traffic and people noise). Once we moved to the back of the property it was a totally different experience. Quiet and peaceful. There is a front house on Duval Street but the back of the property is basically a large deck with winding buildings and staircases going to other rooms/cottages. We stayed in an adorable room with a huge shower area, and a small private deck. We wished we'd been there the first two nights, it was much nicer. There is a small pool, adequate for kids, and an adorable little playhouse that my daughter is still talking about. It was really nice to have the playhouse so she could entertain herself while we had breakfast. And the breakfast by the way was typical continental, nothing particularly special but there was plenty of it. The front desk was so very helpful with beach and activity suggestions. There is a huge drugstore, a grocery store, a laundromat, an ice cream store, and many great kid-friendly restaurants within walking distance- less than 2 minutes away. My negative comments would be that the deck and garden areas were not quite as lush and kept up as they could have been; the decor in the rooms was a bit dated; the breakfast hours were early and limited. By the way, we went next door to my friend's cottage at Center Court and saw how much more updated and pleasant the rooms were, for about the same price. I will say that the staff was extremely helpful and acommadating with our room move, local suggestions, parking issues, and they also found us a wonderful babysitter so we could go out one night. Traveling with a small child makes great service so much more important than things like decor, so overall we were happy with our experience here, and would likely return.

Well located if you want to stay in the centre of things. Duval Street is very busy and not what we expected of Key West. It is very touristy and tacky and would recommend finding a place in a quieter area. We were greeted by instructions of 'dos and don'ts' by staff with $ signs in their eyes. The studio room (21) was ok, beds not fantastic and kitchen facilities useful to those who want to self cater to save some money. A complimentary sachet or two of coffee would have been a nice touch especially at $250 per night! But to call themselves a Bed & Breakfast is a misnomer as the breakfast was frankly a joke, tired looking pastries and a seriously bad selection of fruit, weak coffee etc etc. It's an impersonal place to stay, well located and next door to a fantastic restaurant called 915.
