“Hyatt Sunset in the Keys”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

My husband and I had the opportunity to visit this awesome resort and we had the best time. I was very skeptical at first due to some bad reviews. However, we both were very pleased with the facility. This location is great with near by shopping and restaurants within walking distance. There was no need to drive any where. Although we did not have a balcony view, it did not matter because the atmosphere was great! We loved it!

Room Tip: 2nd & 3rd Floor. Corner suites are larger!

Hyatt Sunset Harbor is the perfect Key West location. It's at the outermost site of the very active tourist areas of Mallory Square -- but it's set so that it's remarkably quiet. The main building is turned to embrace the large swimming pool and hot tub, which means that it also faces the beautiful Key West sunsets. The staff is efficient, very helpful, eager to provide assistance and information. Wonderfully clean, comfortable rooms. One doesn't really need to have a car, staying at the Sunset Harbor -- perhaps a cab ride to a major grocery store on the first day, to pick up essentials -- but then you're within an easy walk of all of the Mallory Square, harbor, and Duval Street restaurants and shops -- and a car would be in the way for those, mainly.
A real find.

Room Tip: Some of the two-bedroom suites have a "full" kitchen -- but without an oven! Don't pl...

Reading GERT's review made me laugh! They complained because they didn't get FREE coffee. They must have gotten free bagels, free rum punch, free fruit and cheese, free chips and salsa, and free margaritas, or else they would have complained about that too. This location is one of the best on the island. And no, I don't own at this or any other Hyatt property, but we've spent many weeks here. I'm glad GERT won't be back, leaves space for us! If you don't like the view your room has, get the hell out of your room and enjoy the resort and the location, which is walking distance to everything!!!

We stayed at the Hyatt for two nights, unfortunately we has a room without any view. The only small window had a view to a corridors wooden wall.

Reception staff were not vey helpful, when we asked to refill the coffee jar at the lobby (Free of charge) they refused. They told us it's time limited and now time is over.

Since they don't offer any breakfast, you have to go to one of the outside restaurants. Staff couldn't recommend any, therefore we were looking first day for about 30 minutes for a suitable restaurant.

Location is great, direct on sunset point, pool area is great as well. In view to the rate we have paid, we would have expected a little more value for money.

We spent a week at the Sunset Harbor Hyatt and have to say it was excellent all around. From the little pool gatherings to the sunset celebration just a few steps away every night and then to be able to walk anywhere in town and find our way home, we loved it. We took a trolley a few days, went to the south side where the good beaches are and spent many nights eating fresh fish around town.

Must go to Higgs beach were many locals hang. It has a very shallow and expansive swimming area that has lots of fish to see and big patches of sandy bottom to enjoy happy hour in the water. The casual restaurant Salute on the beach has great food and a bar. Also Zachary Taylor Park has a beautiful beach with off shore breakwaters creating a place to follow fish around and swim. They also have a neat little cafe there too. Above all else, bring your appetite for fresh locally caught seafood. We didn't have a bad meal anywhere. de Pepe's, the Grand Cafe, Fogarty's and even Sloppy Joe's had good food.

The Hyatt Sunset Harbor doesn't have a restaurant or bar so stop ahead for provisions but you are only a few minutes from most everything.
Enjoy!

We were booked into a studio and since we stayed there before I thought I knew what to expect. Because the resort is connected by outside walkways, it's difficult to leave the blinds open unless you want people looking in at you. The room this year was a little smaller than the one we had last year. The resort was full so we couldn't change rooms. I also thought the carpet needed a shampooing. I found the room a little moldy smelling. We repositioned two chairs and an end table to give us some more room. There was a small fridge, microwave, toaster and anything else you might need.
It seems some people who were staying here have gotten into the habit of putting towels on the lounges to reserve them. The young lady at the front desk was very happy to "unreserve" them for anyone who asked. She also made sure there was fresh coffee available at all times.
Cruise ships were in port almost all week so things could get noisy around the resort but it's location makes it so convenient to get around. Close to Mallory Square, Front Street and many of the well known bar and restaurants make this location a plus. For a nominal fee there is a shared lot where you can leave your car.

Location was fantastic...just a couple minutes of scenic walking and you're in Mallory Square, on Duval street, or taking in the historic district. Stayed in a one bedroom, ground floor with great view of the fountain, pool, and tropical plant landscaping. Like the view of the marina and Gulf of Mexico from the peaceful pool area. Would definitely stay here again in the future.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less noise from boardwalk walkways throughout the complex

IyhNJ,

Thank you so much for your review! I really think the title of your review really describes Sunset Harbor. We are certainly right in the heart of the action and yet peaceful enough that our guests feel like they are in their own little oasis, far away from the action on Duval Street. We look forward to welcoming you back to our corner of the "island city" again very soon!
