“Worst place in the keys”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 November 2012

This campground is terrible! The tent sites are very small, right on a canal that comes over the wall during high tide. The place is noisy both traffic and fellow campers yelling all night. No nighttime security to quiet things down. One toilet, shower, and sink for the whole campground. Place was very expensive for what you got, which was nothing. Wouldn't advise anyone tent camp there.

If you want a cheap place to camp just outside Key West, this is your place.
We stayed here for two nights and we were in a tent.
Tents places aren't very roomy and equipped with a bbq and a table.
The campground has clean showers and bathrooms.
It is conveniently locayed for a kayak rental site and just 4miles far from Key West downtown.

Plus side of this property is how close it is to Key West if you need to be. The bath house was clean and they have power. The property is right off the main road behind some stores and a gas station. Not very nice and didn't make you feel too secure. sites are small with no good room to turn around in and very limited vegetation. The tent area did look a little better but not much.

This was a nice little camp ground that had easy access to the Highway - I always use ear plugs when camping so the road noise didn't bother me as much as a Drunk Unruly camper that screamed loudly from 2am until 6am forcing me to call the police. Apparently the owner is on site at all times and I could have knocked on his door - I was unaware of that tidbit. The good thing is that the campground asked the people to leave and we were given a refund and let out of our 5 night commitment. Other than this poor experience I would probably go back the facilities are very clean - they have multiple toilets and showers, there is a covered eating area (very Small)...little docks if you are located near the water, Washers and dryers for use and the camping areas were large enough for an 8 person tent and a small SUV. The other campers are mostly fold who come year after year so my daughters and I walked around and talked to people. We had a fun time.

For budget traveler campers who don't mind a long bike ride into Key West proper, Leo's isn't a bad choice. You can walk to Lazy Dog kayak rentals, ReCycle, and the Hurricane Hole marina or rent bikes from the campground. Otherwise, there's not much around. The tent sites are small, but sufficient, located on a small waterway which makes for nice fish and iguana watching. The ground is hard, but we got stakes in far enough to work. The only problem is the road noise from US 1, just a half-block away, that didn't die down until after 1 am.

Saying you get what you pay for doesn't have bearing in KW $$$$, that being said Leo's is a great location if you rent a scooter from the friendly folks 200yda away. Unfortunately traffic noise is an issue but can't be help, Key West is an active town packed into such a little space. Spots are reasonable sized and facilities are clean. I would come here again....should say it all!
