What a nicely run family place. Close to all the action is KW. Nothing fancy just a nice room with a comfortable bed and island charm. Nice change from the big box resorts we ususally stay at in KW. Will be back.

We just returned from Courtney's Place... My wife and I routinely stay at another B&B as on our many trips to Key West we travel without our children, and the other establishment does not allow kids. I had remembered Courtney's Place as, many years ago, our wedding party had stayed in Cabin number 4 with a handful of kids.

Having brought our children along on this KW excursion, we opted to try out Courtney's Place. I was admittedly a little apprehensive as it had been years since we had even been on the grounds and I was worried that my favorable memory of the place would have better than the present day reality.

First things first. This is NOT the Casa Marina Waldorf. If that's what you're looking for, then pony up and make a reservation there. Also, this is NOT a trendy South Beach Lounge resort. If that's what you want, mix yourself up a kiwi pomegranate martini, crank up your Jay Z and Beiber tunes and book a reservation there.

What this is, however, is a true home away from home smack in the middle of the heart of Key West... Some observations:

THE GROUNDS:
The grounds are constantly being fidgeted with. Even though you are beneath a canopy of tropical awesomeness, you'll notice that there aren't leaves piled up everywhere (including the pool). That's because someone is there to sweep or vacuum up the leaves...all day...every day.

The pool is small. There's no disguising that. So, while you won't be able to swan dive into a 15 foot deep end, or do Michael Phelps style laps in the pool, it definitely suffices to cool off and recharge the batteries a bit before going back out to explore.

THE ROOMS
We stayed in Cabin 4 for the first two nights. Cabin four could conceivably accommodate 12 souls (with the use of a pull out couch). We stayed with our family of four...a bit overkill on space, but it was nice to have all the room. Would it pass the white glove test of the Plaza Hotel? Nope. Was it clean, and warm and just like a home should feel? Hell yes. The rooms come complete with fresh coffee beans and a grinder, which is a great touch I wish I would have known about before buying coffee at Publix on the way in. There are plenty of towels provided, and the breakfast area/lobby/living room area is open 24 hours a day and provides pool towels so that you won't have to use your room towels.

We found the beds to be comfy and, while they aren't $4,000 Prana sleep mattresses, they were not at all uncomfortable, and we felt rested in the mornings.

The rooms come with every last cup, plate, fork and knife you would need. We had bought paper plates and solo cups and a small box of plastic forks and knives just so as not to deal with anything for anyone to have to clean. All the plates and cutlery and cups were clean though, and I wouldn't have hesitated to use any of them (and we did actually end up using some coffee cups and some plates for breakfast).

Out of necessity, we moved from Cabin 4 to Cabin 5 for the last night of our stay. Cabin 5 is much smaller, and has just enough room for a family of four. Commensurately, while the kitchen is much smaller, it has a full fridge and a microwave, and all the coffee amenities of the larger cabin.

THE STAFF
From the very first call, Mary was extremely helpful and friendly. She is extremely knowledgeable about every last thing you can think of to do on the rock. And if you think that there is something she can't find that you might need, she was able to find me a small Phillips head screwdriver I needed for my 8 year old's battery operated remote control boat. Also, Tim the groundskeeper is a native Conch and there isn't a corner of that Island that he won't know about. Every member is warm and inviting and will bend over backwards to provide anything that you may need while you're there...

In short, a person such as myself that has stayed at Waldorfs and Chica Lodges, can wholeheartedly recommend Courtney's Place. The reviewers that have trashed this place are the sorts of people, I suspect, that can find fault in just about anything in life. If, like my family, you aren't obsessed with perfection, but like to find enjoyment wherever you are, do yourself a favor and book a stay at this little gem...you will not regret it!

Room Tip: For my money, if you have 4 or more, Cabin 4 is where it's at...

The reservation was easy to make, correspondence was prompt, professional yet friendly.

My husband and I have stayed at 5 different hotels within the Key West area. We were pleased with the other 4 but not to the point of feeling like we were in our "other home" until Courtney's Place. It's located 1.5 blocks from Duval Street down a one way alley making it secluded yet easily accessible to all KW has to offer. It's relatively small and compact yet definitely quaint in a wonderful way. Each unit is unique from single queen size beds to large suites. There's an outside locked gate after hours with a combination lock for added security. You enter into an area with a small but adequate pool for the number of guests. There's beach chairs around to take advantage of the sunshine. The entrance to the office includes a large round table with chairs, a TV, water cooler, and in the morning, extended continental breakfast with enough variety including protein (sausage biscuits and hard boiled eggs) to suit most.

Early morning check in was quick & easy, they stored our bags until the room was available. We extended our arrival so stayed in the first room only the one night. It had a queen size bed, bathroom, and kitchenette. It included a private porch with table and chairs and a gated entrance. Early the next morning, our originally scheduled room was ready on the second floor.

It had a table and chairs outside. The room was large with 2 double beds, 2 comfortable sitting chairs, 3 nightstands, dresser and closet providing plenty of storage. There was a small microwave and frig. The mattresses were comfortable with plenty of pillows and covers. The large bathroom had storage under the counter. There was plenty of hot water with a good spray from the shower.

Behind the office is a separate seating area with grills available for personal use and an ice machine that stayed full. Even tho they have bikes available for rent, they allowed us to store our personal bikes in that area for our peace of mind.

It is pet friendly with several friendly cats and even a resident bird.

Check out was as quick and easy as check in. They allowed us to store our luggage again until time to head to the airport.

It isn't new and modern but it is oh so warm and comfortable with the personal touches and the friendly staff. We already have reservations for 2 additional trips this year. We've found our home away from home in Key West.

We booked a room with 2 beds for 2/9-2/13. The room was on the older side, but it was clean and large and an end unit, so it was very quiet. There were 2 chairs outside the room, so it allowed us to not be stuck in the room all the time.
Breakfast was a ramped up continental. Bagels, muffins, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, etc. along with French Toast and Waffles that you could toast. It was plenty for us each day.

The Pool is small but it was a great spot to cool off after being at the beach or out and about and we used it several times during our stay.

A winter storm "stranded" us for 2 extra nights, Mari and Mike were awesome in helping us. Checking in with us to see if we needed another night, etc. We were able to stay in our room for one night and then we were moved to another for the last night. (at the same rate)

I would not hesitate to stay there again. The location is great. Just a few blocks off Duval but far enough away to be quiet. It is not luxury, but it is clean and quiet and the staff is great!

Courtney's Place is a lovely B&B. It is an easy walk to the downtown area and Mallory square. The staff are very friendly and the breakfast was perfect for our needs. It was quiet and a welcome change of pace from the town activities.

What a wonderful place. We loved it and hope to stay there again. Not far from Duval but easy walking. We rented a scooter to get around and highly suggest it. The staff were friendly and they have such a lovely breakfast in the morning. You will love this place.

We arrived there on Feb. 10/14. Our check in was fantastic. Mike was right there for us to help us park our vehicle and then he so kindly helped us with our luggage. Mary is also a real sweetheart. They are very accommodating and really make you feel like family. Our breakfasts were also great, French toast, eggs , cereal, cream cheese and bagels, coffee, tea or orange juice. They have a lovely patio where you can enjoy your breakfast. Our little cavalier King Charles was also very welcome. We were within walking distance from Duval street where all the action is. I would highly recommend Courtneys Place and I would also return in a minute. Thanks again Mary and Mike.
