“Key West Inn: Very Quiet and Historic”
Reviewed 24 March 2014

We searched for a place to stay off of the noisy main streets of the city. This place is near the Truman Little White House and fits into the historic feel to the city. We stayed on the first floor rooms. The beds were comfy. Not much room to open a suitcase and spread out clothing. The bathroom looked a little worn and could use a renovation.

The breakfast was a cold selection in a basket but we are coffee and danish folks so it was ok.

The area was good because most of what we wanted to see could be reached on foot; the Truman little white house, Ernest Hemingway House, the Coast Guard ship.

After a loud busy day along Duval Street, this Inn was a nice quiet alternative to retreat to in the evenings.

The Weatherstation Inn is located in the Truman Annex, which is a gated and quiet community at night but only a three minute stroll to downtown and the madness of Duval Street, when you want it. The Inn is part of the Westin chain. We had the Island Grass room on the second level. It was large and airy with a king bed. It also had a large though shared balcony and a large bathroom with a spacious shower stall - that was private. We were very happy with the room and Jose, the concierge, who willingly made any reservations that we wanted, including ordering bikes delivered for us. Rent them, they make getting around easy and fun. You'll see much more without the hassle of driving or finding parking. Island Grass (and three other rooms) are accessed by climbing a steep and long out-door staircase. I think it's something like 30 steps up! So, if climbing is an issue or strength to haul your suitcase up 30 steep steps is an issue, take a ground floor room. But, the balcony and the windows on two sides of the room made the hike worth the effort. The problem with the place is that you have to walk downstairs to get coffee or ice or use a fridge. For us a lack of convenient coffee in the A.M. was a downer, though we managed. The other problem is that breakfast is brought to your door in a basket and while there's enough stuff to eat, compared to a hot breakfast at a B&B, it was merely adequate at best. You won't look forward to it. On the other hand, once you've gone downstairs to get a tray of coffee and fixings and hiked back up again, coffee on the balcony is very pleasant. Location, Location, Location – it can’t be beat. But for the coffee and breakfast situation I would have rated this spot as excellent.

The Weatherstation Inn has a quite abeyance atmosphere to it. Being nestled in the center or an old Naval Base and being closed off to the general public at night make it a great escape. However, If you love breakfast, a quite place to read inside to escape the heat this is not the place for you. Breakfast was cute the first day delivered to your door in a basket, but how many days can you eat 2 hard boiled eggs a muffin, crackers, and an apple, coffee and Orange Jus was out in the hall and you had to get dressed to get it yourself. As far a furniture, the Inn was sparsely furnished in the room bed, 2 hard chairs and a small table. No place to put your toiletries' in the bath. Inn Keepers were friendly but it was not any different that staying at a hotel. Sorry to say that for the price you pay is not worth just the quiet.

This is our second year staying at the Weatherstation Inn and we would definitely recommend it again. The inn only has 8 rooms so you need to book early. It is located in the gated Truman Annex which is close to the Key West action, yet far enough away you don't hear the noise at night. They bring you breakfast in the morning in a picnic basket and leave it outside your door. Very convenient and delicious. The coffee station is set up around 7:00'ish so you can just help yourself on coffee and tea. Barbara and Jose are wonderful and very helpful. They have parking for guests so if you are driving you can park for free. A wonderful place to stay!

Room Tip: We had one of the Queen rooms which was very nice but small compared to the King room we had last ye...

We planned a stop in Key West prior to our Panama Canal cruise. After a lot of research we settled on The Weatherstation Inn. We chose the Sea Lavender Room which shares a balcony with the Beachgrass. The location is superb! Just a short walk to Duval Street or Mallory Square. Barbara and James are excellent hosts and the breakfast baskets are perfect! Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer!

We enjoyed a lovely trip to Key West over the holidays and a short stay at the Weatherstation Inn. The Inn is centrally located, just a few short blocks from Duval Street, but in a quiet, gated community, away from the noise of Duval Street--it's the best of both worlds!! We stayed in the Artisan Room, which is a lovely first floor king size suite. The bed was very comfortable and we found the room to be neat, clean, and adequately equipped. The bathroom is a moderate size with a large shower. The reception area is nice and the staff, especially Barbara, are very nice and helpful. A continental breakfast is delivered to the door each morning. We would definitely stay here on a return trip to Key West!!

Room Tip: First floor is easiest for bringing in luggage. The Artisan Room is a lovely king size suite.

My girlfriend and I were first timers to Key West so I did a lot of research on where we should stay. I kept coming back to positive reviews about the Weatherstation Inn and they did not disappoint. From the moment we arrived (Barbara saw our cab, came outside and said "Hey kids, welcome to the Weatherstation!") to the moment we left, we had an incredible time. Barbara was our innkeeper the first few days and gave us great restaurant and tourism suggestions; Jose rounded out our stay with a few more restaurant suggestions and helped us check into our flights home.

The Weatherstation is in a wonderful place -- very close to all the action but a nice, quiet spot to come back to at the end of the night. It's absolutely spotless and the service is top notch. We're hoping to return to Key West (and the Weatherstation Inn) next year!

Room Tip: We had the Garden Room -- it's very nice but it's right off the area where the innkeeper sit...
