Truly a lovely property in an excellent location! Just a few blocks off busy Duval, it feels a world away. Lush landscaping and lots of thoughtful amenities make this a warm, wonderful place to stay. The decor is thoughtfully chosen and the rooms and public spaces are very well appointed. Our room was stylish and immaculately clean! Only thing that beats the surroundings and decor is the warm welcome and fantastic customer service. We will surely be back!

The owners and their staff have created a beautiful atmosphere that will make you feel right at home. The house is beautiful, our room was like a private bungalow, and the patios & garden areas were so relaxing. When we first arrived on the property we were greeted by Caya (one of their flat-coat retrievers). She and her sister Havana became fast friends with us, always playful and welcoming. Geri and Rebecca were very friendly and accomodating. They have a lot of insight to the area and all of their suggestions were perfect for us. Don't be afraid to ask! The house is beautifully decorated, it's very clean (smells wonderful!) and they have thought of every detail to make your stay really special. We looked forward to their coffee and a delicious homemade breakfast each morning with the beautiful birds, church bells and the very rare, but charming, rooster crow on the patio. They have beach towels, pool towels, sunscreen, bug spray, etc. They served fresh lemonade and cake each afternoon. There was even a basket of extra toiletries just in case you forgot something. We made friends with another guest couple whom we shared our daily stories with over a glass of wine in the evenings. This was our first B&B experience and we cannot wait to return. A truly special, unforgettable experience that just happens to be in our favorite destination. Our anniversary was like a second honeymoon. The M&A is one of a kind.

I had a delightful stay at the Mermaid and the Alligator. The house and property are well maintained with a wonderful tropical flair. The garden areas offer serene places to relax and connect to nature. There are numerous water features with rippling water to soothe the senses. My room was comfortable, clean and the bed sheets were like butter, so soft and inviting. The staff catered to my every wish and I felt right at home.

This was my second stay at the Mermaid & Alligator. I would've returned long before, but they were always pretty booked when I asked about availabilities, so this time I simply asked them, "Tell me the next time you have THIS room available" and took the first dates they gave me.

This is a totally peaceful place, best enjoyed if you don't always feel you need to be on the move. Their common gardens are tropically beautiful, with cages of colorful parrots and parakeets. The owners and concierges are incredibly gracious and helpful. If you want to do something in Key West, all you have to do is ask them to help arrange it.

If you're trying to place it geographically in old Key West, it's not far from the Hemingway house and, even better yet, the Green Parrot bar.

And as someone who misses having a dog, I enjoy the two flat retrievers, even if one (see photo) swiped a muffin off my plate and then looked at me as if I owed her another as a reward,

Room Tip: I am going to kick myself for giving this away, but the Bamboo room is a spacious, well-decorated ro...

Our first visit to the Keys so we took a friend's recommendation for a place to stay, and we were not disappointed. This is a lovely gem situated in the heart of old Key West. The grounds were lush and private, and our room was charming and very comfortable. The room was in a separate building and thoughtfully appointed with every possible amenity, a great experience! Rebecca was always helpful with suggestions for places to see and good local restaurants. We would definitely recommend this B&B!

My husband and I stayed were looking for a B&B to relax and reconnect. He had just returned from a deployment and the mermaid and the alligator was exactly what we we looking for. The grounds were relaxing, the hot breakfast dish of the morning was always good and the bed was very comfortable.
We stayed in the treetop suite (a lot of steps) but very nice. Although any room looked fantastic. Would definitely go back.

My husband and I first visited Key West 5 years ago and stayed at The Mermaid & The Alligator based off of a colleague's recommendation. We absolutely fell in love with the B&B so when we decided to elope to Key West on NYE, we chose The Mermaid & The Alligator as our honeymoon spot. We ended up staying in three different rooms due to our flights being cancelled home because of the winter storm. Dean, Geri and the entire staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. We felt so fortunate to be in a comfortable home environment where we felt safe and cared for. The Tree Top Suite, Garden Room, and Papaya Room were all lovely and amazing in their own unique way. The environment (both indoors and out) is both private and relaxing and is conveniently located just a couple blocks from Duval Street. It is a great escape at the end of the evening away from the crowds and the party scene. I can't imagine staying anywhere other than here when we return to Key West.
