The Mermaid and Alligator was better than we could have imagined. Walking distance to everything, beautiful, relaxing bed and breakfast, great service and value. Thanks to Geri who arranged our bike rentals, dinner reservations, boat trip, evening show and made our stay extra special.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Bamboo room in the garden area.....beautiful setting, private, and quiet!

My husband and I stayed here five nights in the Caribbean Queen room. The room and house are absolutely beautiful and charming, wonderful if you love century homes like we do! Every morning the staff serves a hot, delicious breakfast by the pool. The concierge Geri was SO helpful with making reservations for us, and recommending various restaurants and site-seeing activities. Dean was also very friendly and ready to answer any questions or assist with anything we needed. We loved the dogs, too! They're very sweet, and make your stay feel more like home. We will definitely plan to return on our next trip to Key West!

This was our first visit to Key West and we were fortunate enough to hit the jackpot! By reviewing comments on trip advisor, such as this, we found this gem. It is exactly as people review it to be. Excellence in decor, serenity, comfort, and assisting your needs. We met many wonderful people each morning while eating breakfast by the pool and also in the evening over a glass of wine. This is the place you will remember for a lifetime!

My wife and I had the privilege of staying at this retreat. Everything was perfect and the owners and staff are beyond professional, courteous, and friendly. Despite my wife and I being introverted people, we felt welcomed into this historic, beautiful home. From the delicious breakfast every morning to the wine in the evenings, this is one of the best places we have ever stayed. The staff and owners' insider knowledge made our stay even more enjoyable. While Key West has many adventures to be had, the best part of my trip was reading and sipping drinks in the exceptional sanctuary that is the Mermaid and the Alligator.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Royal Poinciana room and enjoyed the antiques and private balcony.

I booked this B&B because the reviews were great and they had vacancies for the days we were looking to visit Key West. When we arrived, the owners were not there, but Rebecca welcomed us. She took on a tour of the home and explained all of the amenities. She showed us our room and asked us what we'd like to do while in town. She gave us a map and recommended several restaurants in the area. She also offered to make reservations, which she did, for several restaurants as well as our seaplane adventure to Dry Tortuga. Breakfast each morning was wonderful...fresh fruit, juices, cold cereals, coffee, tea and a hot meal carefully prepared and served to each us as we arrived for breakfast. the hot meal alternates between an egg dish (e.g.quiche, etc) and waffles or pancakes. The hot meals were very good. I didn't eat the egg dishes because of dietary issues, but my husband loved them. The only thing we found a bit odd was they didn't offer an alternative hot dish for me. However, this was a small thing, but they might want to consider asking guests up front if they have any dietary issues and offer alternatives. I just ate cereal and fruit on those days, which was fine for me.
In the afternoon and evening, they offered small snacks like cookies or chips, along with lemonade and wine. They also had a fridge that stocked soda and water and you could take anytime. They had a guest fridge too for those who wanted to store other items (loved this!). They also provided bug spray, suntan lotion, beach towels and beach bags to use as needed.
The grounds were so beautiful! You felt you were in a tropical paradise, with lush trees, private areas, a soaking pool and beautiful lovebirds. The dogs were also very cute and unobtrusive. It really made you feel like you were home. The room we had, Caribbean Queen, was decorated beautifully and immaculate! We had a seating area inside and an outside porch to ourselves, with a hammock, couch and bistro set....lovely and charming. Although the room was in front of the house, where there was noisy street traffic til late at night, the owners thought of everything to ensure guests got a restful night sleep. They provided a sound therapy machine, which we used nightly. As a result, we slept like babies! The bathroom in our room looked like something out of Architectural Digest Magazine. Wow! Beautiful chandelier and tub, with a large shower.
While there are 2 owners, Dean and Paul. We only saw Paul once. He nodded to us, but didn't introduce himself or talk to us. Dean, however, was there most of the time. He was really hands-on, serving and cooking breakfasts, fixing and attending to the grounds, talking with guests and offering assistance whenever needed. He was attentive, without being intrusive...perfect!
All in all, this was a beautiful B&B, right in the heart of the historic Old Town, but a few short blocks from noisy Duvall Street. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Key West and will definitely return on my next visit to this area!

From the time we arrived to the time we (sadly) left, we felt at home. The home and grounds are beautiful. Private, yet within walking distance to everything. Every one was very helpful, ie. scheduling dinner reservations, scheduling trips, informing us on what restaurants were worth going to.....and what I found to be the most impressive thing was when we met "the locals" and they asked us where we were staying, they all mentioned that the Mermaid and the Alligator "do it right". I will go back!

Room Tip: I didn't see all the other rooms, but ours, The Sun Room, was everything we needed.

After leaving PA on a 12 degree January morning and arriving here to the warmth and lush green gardens it was simply wonderful. The landscaping on this property is absolutely breathtaking! So many sitting areas just to sit, relax and enjoy the beauty of the gardens. The inn is at a great location--we walked to everything but the airport. Our room, as well as the common areas, was meticulously clean. Dean, Geri and Rebecca were all great with giving us dining suggestions and then making reservations for us. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The first morning we were there I asked Geri if they had iced tea. She was sorry they didn't, but from the next morning on there was a fresh pitcher of iced tea for me every day. This was our first trip to Key West, but it definitely is not our last. We are already discussing a return trip to M & A next year!
