Pegasus International Hotel
Ranked #50 of 51 Hotels in Key West
Reviewed 14 August 2014

The Pegasus hotel is located right at the heart of Duval Street. The hotel is very clean and it's inexpensive compare with the other hotel and resorts located on Duval street 169.00 a night. They also provide complimentary breakfast mini muffins, bagels, waffles, cereal, coffee and orange juice. From front desk to cleaning crew very nice and welcoming. Rooms are very clean and spacious. It has a mini refrigerator and microwave along with coffee maker. Just wonderful very clean. Duval street is where all the shops, restaurants and clubs are located. It's also closest to the beach. Once you exit the hotel to your right just walk straight down about 3 to 4 blocks from the hotel and you have reached fort Zachary Taylor beach. You must pay a fee if you want to enter the beach. By foot or bike 2.50 per person, by car 2 people 7.00 and .50 cents for additional people in the vehicle. Make sure you take with you WATER SHOES. The beach has many rocks, gravel on the sand and in the water. Very difficult and painful to walk barefooted. For breakfast we ate at two friends it's a walking distance from hotel and pretty expensive breakfast for two bill was 40.00 including tip. It was well worth it very good food. We ate dinner at "El Meson De Pepe" authentic Cuban food delicious highly recommend and inexpensive dinner for two with tip 55.00. Best dinner ever. We also visited sloppy joes lots of fun danced the night away dinner was 65.00 for two with beer. We also tour the city at 60.00 for two can ride all day busses stop at 6:00pm so get tickets early and enjoy tour is approximately 90 minutes long. We had the time of our lives. Must rent a moped for 125.00 all day and enjoy the keys.

Room Tip: Ask the front desk to show you the room before you pay and you will not have a bad experience .

This was our first time staying here and we LOVED the location! Right in the middle of Duval so you could walk just about everywhere. We walked to Mallory Square, to the Southernmost everything, to Fort Zachary Taylor. It was the perfect spot. The Pegasus was kind of a quirky place but isn't that what you want in Key West? We were on a family vacation so we had our 3 kids with us (ages 16, 13, 10) and our room had plenty of space for all of us and seemed to have been recently renovated. The breakfast didn't have a lot of variety but, fortunately, we are not picky breakfast eaters and had no problem eating there. Having a place to park ($10/day) was great as we didn't even use our car during our stay--though I recommend NOT parking under the trees as the chickens/roosters roost there and poop all over your vehicle. The only somewhat negative thing we could think of was the window unit air conditioner really struggled to keep up in the July heat but we were never really uncomfortable. Overall, we loved it and will stay there again the next time we visit Key West!

This hotel is in the middle of Duval street and walking distance to Mallory Square (5 blocks) lots of restaurants, bars and shops. The staff was polite and knowledgable about the area. The room (209) was clean and roomy. The bed was king size. Bath was small but had a nice tile shower with lots of hot water and spa lotions. Both felt good after a long day of walking KW. Breakfast was cereal, milk coffee, bagels, toast and muffins.Would be nice to include fresh fruit, yogurt and granola. I would stay here again. Don't get the room with windows facing the street they tend to get street noise. Pool was refreshing, sun deck was nicely furnished.

Room Tip: Rooms on street side noisy.

This place is really a hidden gem with some rough edges…My boyfriend and I have stayed here twice, both times in summer and both times we paid 99$ per night for the room which, for Key West is about as good as it gets price wise. Pretty sure the Holiday Inn down the road is more expensive. I would come here again but I wish they would hire some chill local people to run it.

PROS: -parking down the street so you can leave your car in the lot the whole time and walk everywhere (10$ per day charge).
-The location is right in the middle of Duval st. and you can watch the street walkers day & night from the roof. There are restaurants and a CVS super close so you can stock up on things.
-The bed was actually very comfortable to me, the room was relatively clean, and there is a fridge in the room.
-The rooftop pool is pretty nice and very enjoyable during the day. It is small but the whole time we were there we had it to ourselves. There seemed to be only about 30 rooms in the whole building so its very small.
-On the first trip we made friends with the pool guy/bartender he was really cool and down to earth unlike the rest of the staff, we didn't see him the next year…

CONS: -THE STAFF!! They are rude, don't smile. They are foreign. They are very strict about everything. And there are cameras EVERYWHERE in this hotel, obviously not the rooms but in every corner. I'm guessing it's for safety reasons but they treat you like a criminal.
- If you are old or don't like noise at night you may not like this hotel because some of the rooms are facing the street and it gets rowdy. I didn't mind at all.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the street if you don't mind the noise because you'll have a better view...

Sounds like you and your boyfriend have had some great stays here! We do just want to follow up on your comment about our staff, though -- we welcome people from all backgrounds, and we're proud to have staff from all over the world as part of our team. If any of us seemed strict, it's because we do all we can to ensure your safety while you're here. As you can imagine, with our proximity to Duval Street, we think it's beneficial to put extra safety measures in place that you might not see in a more suburban area. That said, it was never our intention to treat you like a criminal, and we sincerely apologize if our safety measures made you feel that way! We hope you can understand that we truly just want you to have the most enjoyable stay possible, and that your relaxing visits in the past will be enough to keep you coming back in the future.

Sincerely,
Pegasus Management

We rented the 2 Executive Suite rooms next to each other for a boys trip with 2 or 3 guys in each room per night. The rooms themselves were nice and clean and well decorated.
The location is great and the price is reasonable. Literally just steps from Duval St. and there's a Walgreen's, decent pizza joint and noodle shop right outside your door. We never used the pool or hot tub, but they looked decent and the deck was nice. The rooms we stayed in were on the opposite side of the property from Duval so no noise issues.
The shuttle driver from the airport was a pretty cool dude and one of the front desk girls was nice and cute and seemed to put up with our antics very well.

The downsides - each of our rooms had a single window unit A/C and even though it was set to 60 degrees and was blowing cold air the entire time, we were literally sweating in our rooms, even at night and even worse during the day. Granted it was July 4 weekend and boiling outside, but still these aren't large rooms. We didn't ask to change rooms or have them look at it because we were mostly too drunk to care, but just a warning.
Other negatives: The WiFi was terrible - I could get a couple different hotel networks in my room but both were pretty bad. They didn't seem to clean our rooms while we were there - this wasn't a huge deal because they did come ask if we needed fresh towels a couple times and maybe we were just in the rooms when housekeeping was going around. There was another front desk girl who wasn't friendly at all and seemed like she just wanted us gone.

All in all, if I went back to Key West I'd probably stay here again but definitely would ask for a room with better A/C.

Room Tip: Make sure the room has good A/C. Doesn't seem the Executive Suites do.

Thanks for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review! Key West is an excellent destination for a boys trip, and it sounds like you guys had a pretty good time. It definitely gets hot here, especially in the peak of summer, but we want to make sure you are comfortable during your stay. I'll be sure to look into the A/C issue, and should you notice this issue, please do mention it to our front desk. I know that we can show you a 5-star experience, and hope you'll give us that chance the next time you're in town.

Sincerely,

Pegasus Management

Can't beat the location - about 1/2 block off Duval in the middle of the action. This place was great when I was in college and didn't mind crashing with 3 other drunk people. 25 years later and with a wife and kids, this place is not for me. Rooms are tiny and it's noisy - again, see location. If you want a crash pad for FantasyFest, this is great. If you're traveling with kids, stay in New Town.

We understand where you're coming from, Mike -- our location's near the action -- but we hope you won't hold it against us. Like you've said, what may be the perfect spot for a college getaway isn't always the best choice for families. We can only hope you'd be willing to recommend us to friends headed our way -- we'd love to make memories as great as the ones you've described!

All the best,
