Needed a last minute room. Found them on Hotel Tonight. Was a great deal. By the way, it was Memorial Day weekend. Anyway, my girlfriend and I stayed in #3. It has a steep loft area but we loved it. It has a huge outside private patio too. Its really a tropical paradise up here. I'm actually sitting in the patio right now writing this review. Staff was friendly, place was clean, I recommend highly.

Stayed here for two nights during our three week road trip
We arrived early afternoon but no problem were checked straight in and shown around the property. We got room 3 with full kitchen and lots of outside sitting area on the ground floor. Large bedroom, well appointed bathroom and living area. Two TV,s one in bedroom, one in living area.
Beautiful gardens and small pool area with complimentary coffee/tea and even sunscreen ! Nice touch!
We were lucky enough to get a parking spot right outside, but the hotel does have its own car park just one block away.
Ideally located just off Duval St and within walking distance to all Key West bars and attractions.

5 minute walk to Hemingway Home and lighthouse and slightly less to southernmost Point
Fabulous accommodation in the heart of Key West

We stayed at the Douglas House on our recent vacation in Florida. We booked the room for 1 night and wished we had longer. This is just such a beautiful place and the location is perfect for exploring key West. Everything is within walking distance. The hotel is right on the corner of Duval St but yet far enough up the street to not be in the middle of the loud craziness but close enough to join in all the action key West has to offer. The Douglas House is made up of many different rooms and several buildings. We had the loveliest 2 floor rental that was so clean and well furnished and quiet. They have a beautiful small pool in a courtyard that is just so lovely and tropical. Gorgeous plants, water falls, pools, Orchids....relaxing. I will definitely be back. Next time for a longer stay.

We just got back from our honeymoon where we stayed at the Douglas House and it was AMAZING!!!! The location was perfect for us since it was on the "quieter" side of Duval, but still near the action. We were greeted by Kevin who showed us around the B&B and to our room, and WOW I LOVED our room!!! It was clean and comfortable and just perfect for our honeymoon! (#14- Bismark Palm) The deck, pool area, and gardens are a beautiful oasis and extremely relaxing in the morning. (well anytime really.) If you need ANY ideas on where to eat and what to do you HAVE to ask Kevin and Kris! Speaking of Kris, let me tell you about this awesome guy. He is absolutely positively the BEST! If we needed anything we just asked Kris and not only would he give us great ideas, he would then make the appointments/reservations FOR us!!! I mean seriously how much more could you ask for?????? He took care of us and made us feel like royalty on our honeymoon which made the stay even more awesome. I can not say enough positive things about our experience there. If we ever go out to Key West again - the Douglas House will be where we stay without a doubt!!

Room Tip: We stayed in #14 which was a stand alone bungalow - PERFECT for honeymooners

We stayed in the Cuban Suites. It was nice in every way. Full kitchen, living room and a loft area with 2 double beds. Having our own washer and dryer was such a bonus. It was very clean and looked freshly painted. Even though these suites are located next door to the main building you can use the pool /garden area which was beautiful. Location was great with a convenience store across the street and CVS a block away. The only thing that could be improved would be adding some more glasses and cooking utensils. We enjoyed our stay. Thank-you

Room Tip: Smoking was allowed outside on the balconies which the cuban suites have 2 each.

So, we get there and check in. The guy that checked us in was kind of blase. Not a real hospitable manner, which I would expect people running a place like this to really go all out and be very friendly.

We went to our room, and it was very small. And, it wasn't all that nice. I don't need a great room, but I would think that for a "charming" bed and breakfast time place, they would focus on the details. Not here. The bed was comfortable. The closet only had 4 hangers, even though it had room for much more. There was only one small trash can in the entire room. The shower rod was bent and rusting and not a nice quality in the first place. There were cracks in the wall and cobwebs in the corners. The ceiling fan only had one speed, super fast, but it was unbalanced and shook back and forth and made a knocking sound. One night we were there and one of the potted (big ceramic pot) plants broke. It sat there untouched for two days before anything was done with it. Again, nothing horrible, but for a place like this, I would have expected nicer.

Now the good things. The gardens were very beautiful, the deck around the pool was great, and the pool itself was very nice. Out by the pool they have around the clock coffee which was nice. Pretty good coffee too. We met some very nice people down in the pool and that was very nice, sitting in the pool, having some cocktails.

The thing that made this place worth it was the location, and that is probably why they can charge they price they do. This place is steps from the Southern portion of Duval. It is 2 blocks south of Truman (US-1). You are steps from some very nice bars, restaurants, and shopping. There is a Circle-K a block away, the banana cafe down the street, the Rum Bar across the street.

So, all-in-all, it'd a decent place, but not a great place. If there's no place else to stay in the area, maybe consider it. If you can find a good deal, maybe. If I got back to Key West, I will look elsewhere.

If you want to read a summary of our experience read the "Wherenext6" review it pretty much reflects our experience of the place. It is strange that there are such diverse views from visitors but we came to the conclusion very quickly that this is a place where if your face fits the service is awesome if it doesn't it's non existent.
There are some positives - the location is excellent and pretty quiet considering it is located towards the top end of Duval on Amelia Street. Car parking is at a premium in Key West so the free parking lot,not too many steps away from the property is a bonus - whilst it is remote to the property it seemed quite safe.
For what we paid I was expecting a better quality room if not a little larger - having to put two pieces of luggage on the floor for the duration of our stay was not too acceptable - the room was musty and the air conditioner had not been cleaned ( but I hope serviced) for a considerable length time - the furniture was old and tired - not shabby chic in a Key West type of way - just old and tired!
The acid test I always think is checkout time - were we asked if we had a pleasant stay/was everything ok etc etc - no - they just took the keys with barely an acknowledgment that we existed. The only consolation was that we didn't have to again complete the form given to us at check in which indicated every possible addition that we may have been charged extra for. Every hotel has these of course but this was on a new level !
On our next visit to Key West will be staying at a lovely similar sized private lodging on Truman opposite the church (breakfast included) where frankly we wished we had stayed on this occasion.
