“First time offenders, had a wonderful time!”
Reviewed 10 July 2013

My husband chose Marrero's due to the clothing optional pool area, which is something we had never done before, but wanted to try. As nice as that was, the house itself, the owners, and the guests we met were even better. We arrived a few hours early on a Sunday, and stopped in to just drop off our bags, so we could walk around Duval Street until the room was ready. Lo and behold, when Steve greeted us, he told us our room was ready and we could check in right then. How nice is that? Steve was very friendly and funny, and gave us a tour of the property, and explained the house rules. We also met the resident cat, and several other guests in the pool area. Although we had never done clothing optional before, I knew right away that we would have no problem joining in(and didn't), because it really just seemed so natural, and removes any barriers one would have when meeting new people for the first time. I highly recommend it!

I had chosen Room 18 when I booked the reservation a month previous, based on the location of the room, the size of the bed, and a natural curiosity about it being "haunted". While we did not encounter anything supernatural, we loved the room. Great furnishings, semi-private verandah, nice bathroom.

The rest of the house had really nice decor and ambience(as well as an awesome pool area), and we spent some time before checking out discussing the furnishings/artwork in the house with Steve's wife, and she was able to tell us where some of the artwork came from, as we want to purchase several items we saw. She and Steve were friendly, welcoming, and we enjoyed their home very much.

We spent part of Sunday afternoon at the pool, then joined the other guests for happy hour at 5 on the front verandah. Steve provided drinks, another guest had made veggie shooters, and we had a great time getting to meet everyone, as well as getting recommendations for where to eat that night. Just a nice, relaxing time, in a perfect location with good company. Upon returning from dinner, we were too tired to go back down to the pool, and that is the only thing I regret. It would have been nice to spend more time getting to know people, while enjoying a late night swim. The following morning we had a lovely continental breakfast, and then went back to the pool before checkout. Unfortunately, it started to rain before too long, so we spent the last few hours in our room, relaxing.

Upon checkout, we asked Steve if we could leave our bags there until it was time to get back on our ferry home, and not only did he do that for us, he offered us the use of an umbrella, which was very sweet of him. (We stupidly declined the offer, and came back a few hours later looking like drowned rats).

Our brief time at Marrero's was wonderful, and we definitely will recommend it to anyone we know traveling to KW. Any future visits we have to KW will be spent there, and we look forward to becoming "repeat offenders" the next time!

Another wonderful weekend at Marrero's. Every single time we go we have a wonderful time and meet the nicest people. This is by far our preference when visiting Key West. Steve is a wonderful host and the location can't be beat, just half a block from Duval Street, plus "happy hour" out on the porch is a great way to get to know the other guests and make new friends. Of course, since most of them have spent the day naked in the pool with you, by happy hour you've usually gotten to know each other pretty well anyway!

Be warned, if you want the Hilton, stay at the Hilton. This is not that sort of experience. This is an old, historic house with lots of charm and character, and above all, the nicest, most down-to-earth people you will ever meet. Also be aware, while the pool is "clothing optional", our experience each time we've been there is that the vast majority of people shed their clothing once at the pool (this trip, for example, there was only one couple who remained prude), so if you'll feel uncomfortable around nude (but very respectful) people, the Crown Plaza across the street may be more your style.

Having put those out there, for us, this is heaven on earth. We can't wait 'till our next visit.

Room Tip: Room 12 (the pool cabana) is most convenient if you'll spend much time at the pool, however, les...

We have been coming to Marrero's for years now and have made some wonderful friends who we enjoy seeing there every june, including host Steve and Jackie. This place has great character and outgoing fun guests. It was so wonderful this year to be free of the troublesome violent drunk dubbed "The Crasian", who is no longer welcome due to abusive and unacceptable behavior. Thank you Steve for this protection of our great vacation getaway and for keeping future guests from dealing with unwanted negative behavior. Highly recommend this place. Until next trip! XOXO

I would never recommend this place to anyone. I tried calling this place initially to set it up and couldn't get anyone to call me back at all. He attempted everything thru email, which was fine at first. But then I had questions about paying the balance we owed prior to arriving and about parking and other amenities. Got not call. I simply voiced frustration that I couldnt speak to a human being, and STEVE cancelled our reservation on 7/2. It had been booked and deposit paid since 6/2. We were set to arrive on the 7th. This guy cancelled our reservation with only 5 days until arrival. I coudn' t believe it. This guy doesn't seem to have the laid back attitude that I have come to know and love from the B&B's in Key West. I will NEVER try to stay here again.

Room Tip: Go to Angelina house. Only difference is they dont have a TV

When a customer becomes abusive before he even arrives to check-in, you can pretty much tell that this is not a good match. It was in the best interests to both parties that this reservation was cancelled by management.

My husband and I just got back from Key West after spending a week on vacation. We stayed at Marrero's Guest Mansion. We were in room 26 (The animal room [growl] as Steve put it.) the room was huge with tall ceilings and decorated nicely. We were on the first floor close to the pool area. Our room featured a king size bed, two chairs, a small flat screen TV, full bathroom with a closet.

Upon arrival Steve greeted us and carried my luggage up the front steps. He checked us in and explained where the continental breakfast and happy hour was held. We dropped off our luggage in our room and Steve took us out back to the pool area. He explained that they had sodas and water for $1.00 and beer for $2.00 and that it was on a honor systems. You just had to write your name, room number and what you took on the little form provided. There was an ice machine out there too.

Each morning from 8am to 10 am there was an assortment of bagels, cinnamon raisin bread, English muffins to toast, fresh fruit, danishes, oatmeal, cereal, milk, tea, and coffee. In the evenings guests gathered on the front porch for complimentary happy hour where Steve provided you with drinks or beer.

In every room there is a small refrigerator which was really nice to have. We walked up the street to a little grocery story and purchased some waters, soda, and snacks to keep in the room and went to a local liquor store to purchase beer which we kept in the small refrigerator. It was great to have this because food that we didn't finish we could bring back to our room and stash it in there to have the next day.

The pillows were a little flat but I noticed they got in a delivery of new pillows...I am jealous!

The guests were very friendly and we met some really wonderful people around the pool and out on the front porch. Steve is not much of a conversationalist; however if you engaged him he was quite nice. One thing I realized about Steve is that he works hard 7 days a week for at least 12 hours a day.

Marrero's Guest Mansion is located just 1/2 a block from Duval Street on Fleming Street and only a few blocks to Mallary Square. You are really conveniently located within walking distance to everything.

Would we stay at Marrero's Guest Mansion again? Yes we would but I think the next time, we would like to stay in Room 14!

Room Tip: For bottom floor rooms with king size beds...room 26 and room 14. To be pool side (queen bed) try r...

We just returned from our first trip to Marrero's (not first time to KW). We will never stay anywhere else. This place made our vacation. In returning from our trip, I am stunned that anyone had any issues with this place. We did not book the Waldorf, so we did not expect the Waldorf. We booked a unique, old Florida looking B&B with tons of charm. Marrero's delivered for us. The front porch happy hour is great for meeting your inn-mates, as well as the pool. We had a great time with the other couples and went out with several couples while we were there. We were in room #12. Yes, it was smaller than the other rooms, but the location more than made up for that. Again, we did our research beforehand and the room was in no way misrepresented. It was perfect. The location of the B&B can't be better. It is so close to everything, but still quiet at night. I hope we can find a way to return next year.

Room Tip: We were in Room #12. It was literally two steps to the pool. It's smaller than the other roo...
