We just stayed at Marrero's for the first time and had a wonderful trip. We spent 4 nights and will definitely be back.

I found Marrero's on a list of haunted Florida hotels, and requested room 18 for its reputation as the "most haunted". We didn't have any paranormal experiences, but our neighbors in 17 said they had some chairs moved around and medicine bottles re-arranged.

The room was very comfortable - good size, nice bed, decent balcony. We couldn't really hear noise from other rooms, which was pleasantly surprising. Hope they didn't hear us either...

There's a mini fridge in the room, so bring snacks and/or drinks if you don't want to be forced to eat out every time you're hungry. There's also a free continental breakfast each morning - fruit, bagels, coffee, etc.

The pool is clothing-optional and people do take the opportunity. The ice machine and soda are in the pool area, so you can't really avoid it. If you aren't comfortable with nudity, I wouldn't recommend staying here.

One great perk was the daily Happy Hour. It was nice to socialize with the other guests over a couple of drinks. I've never gotten to know other hotel guests so well. Not sure if everyone who stays there is so nice, or if we just got lucky, but we really looked forward to it each day.

The location is perfect. We walked everywhere and were never more than a mile away. You have to pay $15/day for parking, so if you can avoid bringing a car, I would. I parked mine and didn't use it until we left. If you have a handicap placard you can park on the street for free.

As a side note, the local roosters are really noisy...even at 2am. We kinda got used to it by the end, but the first night it was a little rough.

If you decide to stay here, know that it is not the Ritz. You won't get 24 hour room service and while the bathroom was clean when we got there, it didn't really get cleaned during our stay. This doesn't bother me, but I know some people would be horrified.

It's more like staying at a friend's home, which sounds weird but after meeting the staff and the other guests, that's really how it felt. When we left, we felt like we were leaving family. We can't wait to go back.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. The location is great. You can walk to everything or rent bikes nearby and see the island that way. Steve was a great host. Especially enjoyed the free happy hour. All the guests are friendly and offer great recommendations for food and activities. We enjoyed the cozier, kid-free atmosphere rather than staying at a resort. We stayed in room 21. It's small but the bathroom is quite large. I liked the balcony and access down the back stairs to the pool. Clean room with a/c and mini fridge.

We recently stayed at the mansion on a Key West extended day since our regular accommodation was sold out for that extra night. Steve was very friendly and accommodating. He showed us the mansion and we immediately decided to stay there the extra night. They have a a complimentary happy hour from 5-6pm and the rate includes a nice breakfast. The pool area is nice and cosy with an honor system bar for drinks. A nice place to relax. Only the pool deck was a little hot from the sun, but just wear flip flops and you are fine. The rooms had wonderful antique furniture and it was fantastic.

The only slight flaw for which the mansion can't do anything, are the morning roosters (which are more frequent on this side of Duval) and current early work on the hotel across the street (which I am sure is only temporary).

The rooms are sparkle clean, the bathroom a bit small (but who spends that much time there) and the bed was very comfortable.

I do recommend this mansion and you will see Steve is just a wonderful person who will help you with anything you need.

Room Tip: We had room 19 with a lovely little balcony.

Wife and I stayed here May 2-5, 2014 for a long weekend after two nights in Miami. We had great weather so we used the pool as much as possible. Met wonderful folks from Florida, Virginia, and Kansas. Our host, Steve, is exceptional at what he does - keeping guests comfortable and maintaining the mansion. Location is awesome. Half a block from Duval Street and walking distance to just about everything. We did the waverunner tour with Barefoot Billy's and shared a boat rental from Hydro-Thunder (end of Duval Street at the Ocean Key Resort) with one of the couples we met at the mansion. Tried to do a snorkeling trip with Sunset but the boat had a serious mechanical problem enroute to the reef and we were stranded for a bit. Ate at numerous restaurants (had the crabs at Pinchers two nights). Plan to visit again soon. - Chris & Andrea

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 26. It's a large room only a few steps to the rear door leading to the pool. P...

Great place. Great pool. COUPLES ONLY. Single men just coming to see nude women ruins it for us couples trying to have fun. This place is great. A must stay. Steve is great. Also, if you get caught taking pictures of guests, you will be asked to leave. The breakfast is nice. We enjoyed making friends with other couples.

I appreciate the fine review, but I wish to express that we are NOT a couples only B&B. Single men and single women are more than welcome here. Picture taking at the pool is not allowed, period.

Warm and welcoming ADULT ONLY environment was just what the doctor ordered. Steve has always been incredibly helpful, accommodating and doubles as a great entertainer. This is our Key West home away from home. Only tip to newbies, must love roosters and understand the pool is clothing optional. :)
