My friend and I love the location, you cannot get better. Nice happy hour with Sangria and fish dip. Breakfast was good, but would have liked to see more native fruit. Great pool for the Keys and we really enjoyed our stay.

We recently enjoyed a beautiful 4 night stay in Room 1 of Cypress House and totally enjoyed it. Our room was beautiful and the staff was lovely – helpful and welcoming. What a great location also, so close to everything you could possibly want to do and yet such a retreat feel. The only issue I had with our stay was that I made a point to book a room with a porch – I wanted somewhere right outside the room for coffee or reading or cocktails – and so many times I opened the door from our room to the porch to find people occupying our porch. Since I felt uncomfortable asking them to go to one of the beautiful public areas of the hotel I often just stayed inside and waited until they left. I think it should be pointed out to the guests when they check in that the porches are not technically public areas.

Disappointing best describes our stay (25-30 March '14). First the good news -all the staff we met were all very welcoming, friendly, helpful and efficient. Location is excellent, two blocks from Duval St., close to main tourist attractions, restaurants which are all within easy walking distance. We did leave getting a reservation until a month before our stay and The Hyatt Sunset Harbour and Hyatt Resort, where we have previously stayed and enjoyed, were booked as were our other choices so we ended up at Cypress House. Their sign says "Fine Lodging" but Room 21 was definitely not what we consider fine lodging. We booked a "Deluxe King with Porch". The room was a good size but best described as sparse. The window treatments consisted of faux wood venetian blinds topped with a cheap valence. Because we were on the ground floor facing Caroline St., we had to keep the front blinds closed and two of the other windows looked out on the Inn's collection of garbage bins so those blinds were kept shut. There was one small "easy" chair and a small chrome table with two chairs. The décor could best be described as 1950's vintage Walmart/Kmart. The bathroom was very small and in need of a good steam clean or bleaching as parts of the grout were black. The sink was small and there was no place for toiletries. There was a little kitchenette area with microwave, fridge, sink which was fine though we only used the coffee machine. The king bed was comfortable. The amenities, i.e. soap, shampoo, conditioner, were not replaced and we had to ask for them as well as coffee for the machine. The staff always met our requests promptly and with apologies. Our room was never made-up until after 3:00 pm. On our 3rd night the city garbage truck parked outside at 4 am and proceeded to empty all the local trash bins to sounds of breaking glass and compacting garbage. The next night our upstairs neighbor spend most of the late night/early morning vomiting noisily! Clearly neither event was the hotel's fault but these happenings didn't endear us to Cypress House either. Cypress House does not have a bar but they do serve complimentary margaritas, rum punch and sangria at 4:30 pm by the pool, along with snacks, which were appreciated. A buffet breakfast is also provided each day. Key West is an expensive place (we paid $2,088 for a 5 night stay) but the week before my husband stayed in a deluxe room in a 5 star hotel in Manhattan for less than Cypress House. Five weeks previously we had stayed at the Inn at Pelican Bay, Naples, FL, for less than what we paid at Cypress House. Our room at The Pelican Inn had a beautiful view, balcony and was luxuriously appointed with lovely fabrics and beautiful and comfortable furniture and breakfast was included and there was a chef to make omelets, eggs, etc. No comparison in terms of value for money. Our general impression of Cypress House was that it was in need of some serious and immediate TLC and upgrading and Room 21 needs to be completely refurbished (please get rid of the plastic flowers!). Some power-washing, painting and raking of the gardens would be a good start. This was our 4th visit to KW and our first at Cypress House ... should there by a 5th visit, we will not be staying at Cypress House.

Room Tip: Did not see any of the other rooms but don't stay in Room 21!

We appreciate your comments, as guest feedback is very important to us. I am very sorry that the housekeeper forgot to replace your soap and you had to ask for more. Housekeeping does service guest rooms until 4pm daily. They do their best to clean the rooms while guests are out for the day. If at any point a guest has a preference as to what time the room should be serviced, we can accommodate these requests. We simply need to know about it.

You requested a King Room with Porch. We have five of these rooms, and they are all located on the front of the building facing the street. If being close to the street is an issue, then requested a room facing the back of the property would be a better choice than requesting one at the front of the building. I wish you would have told a member of the staff that you disliked your room, as we could have easily moved you to another one during your stay. Room 21 is actually extremely popular with a number of our repeat guests who specifically request it year after year, but it just goes to show that different people like different things.

There are only six square miles of land on the entire island of Key West, so property prices are at a premium. It is definitely more expensive to stay in Key West than it is in most other places in the continental USA, but nightly rates at the Cypress House Hotel are directly in line with similar local inns, and we include complimentary continental breakfast and evening Liming Hour with an alcoholic beverage and light snack included in our rates.

The Cypress house is a B & B and wonderful place to stay. Clean and well decorated.
Nice property with Pool. Outside table for breakfast which is included in your stay. They have a small happy hour by the pool, but we were out sightseeing. Our room was on the second floor which had it own porch. After a long day we relaxed on the porch with a nice glass of wine.
The staff was friendly and welcoming.
I truly would return.

Key West was a fun place to visit for a few days.

Nice place to stay for adults. We had a king room on the first floor--clean and quiet. Alexander at the front desk was most helpful. He scheduled a taxi for us to the airport, and it arrived the next morning on time. He gave very good advice about places to eat too. This place is close to everything--very walkable. However, it was very expensive. The breakfast was satisfactory. Only problem was having to go up and down steps to get food at breakfast and taking it outside to eat. If you are handicapped, this would be a problem-- which I am. My husband was able to help me though. Good bed and AC.

There is soooo much to like about Cypress House.

The location is perfect. Near enough to everything but for enough way from the madness. Cypress House is a series of old houses that have been converted so I think for the individual reviews, you need to look at the specific room. We had a mini-suite #24. It was in the back so very quiet.

The suite was 2 rooms that were very well done for the space they had. We had enough plugs for recharging everything so that was a plus. The bed was comfortable and they had maximized the room in the bathroom though not large.

So what keeps it from being 5 starts? 3 things. They may be smaller to you but where important to me.
1. Parking - parking is $10 per day which is not a problem. But it is also 4 blocks away. There is a loading and unloading area in front of the office. Not a fun way to start your stay.
2. Safe- Having a safe is a very good thing. The issue is that the safe is on the floor of the closet. Our old bones where not happy having to get down on the floor to use it.
3. Side table - There is only one side table by the bed and unfortunately, it was on my husband's side. I got to put my drink, etc. on the floor.

Searched high and low for a nice place to stay during Mardi Gras week and found the BEST place in the Cypress House. We requested a king room with a porch or balcony and were booked in room #18 facing Caroline Street. Recommend staying in the original cypress house but anywhere on the property would be just great. They have modernized the bathrooms but kept the charm of a house built before 1900 with lush gardens and tropical plants everywhere. Outstanding service from Chris and the entire staff. Great breakfast selection, happy hour is creative with different drinks and appetizers each day. The pool is small but average for properties in Old Towne Key West. They rent bikes from Eaton Bikes and deliver and pick up after you check out. The best park of Cypress House is that it is adult only. I love children but when I choose to vacation without mine, I don't want them running around when I am trying to relax. We have stayed in several places throughout Old Town and without a doubt, we will be back to the Cypress House - great location, great service, great attention to detail and quality at every turn.

Room Tip: Room 18 is a king superior treasure but you do hear a little of the Caroline Street noise especially...
