We were a little wary to stay there after reading some of the reviews, but having been to Key West many times, we are very familiar with how things are there. Many places are simply older. The El Patio at New Year's is an excellent value! The staff was very nice and friendly to us, we had no problems at all with them. Our room did not smell as some other reviewers said theirs did. We also did not have any ants or any kind of other bugs. Our room was very clean and we had plenty of room. The motel is just older. As with any older building, there are things that might not look the most pleasing, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Being able to rent bikes right there at the hotel is super convenient! The courtyard area and rooftop deck are simply charming. If you have any appreciation for history and the authentic Key West experience, you will be just fine with the El Patio, as were we. If you are looking more for a pleasing appearance and more modern amenities then you will be better off elsewhere. It's true there is no coffee pot and no breakfast available on site, but there are tons of great places nearby to have breakfast. While we were there, we were not able to connect to the wifi at all from anywhere on the grounds and my friend couldn't get any cell signal inside the room at all due to the cement building structure. Those weren't huge issues to us though as we were mainly there to be "off the grid" anyway. It is worth noting though in case you need to be connected for work and/or family reasons while away. I would give a higher rating to this motel if it were based just on service and value, as they are tops in those categories. The overall experience though is closer to average when you factor in the minor inconveniences. I would recommend this motel to anyone as long as you have the appropriate expectations going in. It is a simple old-school motel and isn't fancy in the least. It's a great place to sleep at night and take a nice, hot shower. If you're looking to spend a lot of time in your room, this isn't the place for you.

Considering hotels in Key West are through the roof, El Patio is an ok place to stay for a night or two. Rooms sort of resemble a 1950s cement cell with terrible phone reception. I booked this hotel mostly due to the Wifi, which is a hotel standard these days. To my surprise, the router was down and there was no Wifi in the rooms. I had to sit out by the main office in order to get what little reception they had. Towels are at a minimum. I felt like I was applying for a car lease when I asked for a third towel. They advertise that they are minutes from all the attractions, but it's more of a 5 minute car ride. Was a little disappointed in that. I don't think I'd stay here again, might just spend the extra money and stay at a bigger chain.

Owners EXTREMELY rude and unfriendly. Rooms very small, beds not comfortable, ants all over the bathroom floor. Many rules and restrictions making for a less enjoyable stay. The best part was the top deck, but don't be loud. I Do not recommend this establishment. Key west is a laid back, beautiful place, this motel was anything but laid back!

The rooms smell - and mind you, not of roses. Linen ancient. So are the bathrooms. If you like ants, definitely go for it. If you don't care for indoor insects, choose a different place in Key West to stay. El Patio cleverly put itself online, while many better places didn't - shortly before Christmas 2011 there were vacancies all over town. In El Patio you can't even get coffee in the morning.

This is a very quite motel and well worth the money. They are cheap and in a residential area. The pool area is private. Once given your room key, you will walk into the center courtyard of the motel which is serene, lush and tropical with a fountain and seating area. We had Room 4 - the two queen beds/two bedrooms and one bathroom. Upon opening the door there is a very little foryer leading into the first bedroom which contained a seating area, lighting above the bed for reading, drawers with mirror and the tv. Then you walk through the doorway into the second bedroom which boasts a above bed lighting, drawers with mirror, massive walk-in closet by Key West standards, the window A/C unit and the bathroom. There were green cuban tiles from 'back-in-the-day' on the floor and the rooms are spacious. If you are going to go with friends, be sure you are very comfortable with each other as the people in the first bedroom with be walking through the second bedroom to get to the bathroom. We live in the Keys and spent a Saturday night in KW so we didn't drink and drive. The cost ended up being a whopping $45pp for the 4 of us. This motel is quaint and Key West & Old Florida quarky. We loved this place for what it was.
