This is a definite labor of love by these volunteers. Beautiful lush gardens with views of the ocean from the back of the property. Free admission, but donations are appreciated. Quaint brick & stone walkways lead to shaded sitting areas, fountains and a gazebo. An amazing spot next to Higgs Beach set among the ruins of an old fort. This was definitely a nice "last stop" in Key West before heading back to the airport.

Best secret in Key West if you enjoy nature. Beautiful views and gardens. Small trails go off where you will see lizards, amid the beautiful gardens. This is all built around an old fort, so it is neat to see. Friendly informative staff. Best of all it is free.

Called in at the Key West Garden Club at West Martello Tower on our way out of Key West en route to Miami. Knew little about it but we are keen gardeners and its location on the site of the old ruined military fort intrigued us.
We loved the place. It is quite a small site, bordered down one side by Higgs beach and the ocean, on the other by the road and a moving memorial to African slaves from the 1860s. Once threatened by complete demolition and development, the beautifully planted gardens use the ruins to create a sort of secret garden, rarely allowing views more than a few yards but always offering interest. There are also some interesting sculptures.

Entry is free, with invitation to donate which we willingly did.

Free entry with a donation.
Definitely worthwhile for half an hour or so. Great care taken by curators and beautiful orchids.
