...A friend of ours suggested we might like the Kojin Noodle Bar. I am glad she did since otherwise, we would probably not have eaten there. The restaurant is squeezed in among other businesses just off Duval Street and you could easily walk by and not notice it. Even after you go inside, you wonder if there is enough room to sit down. There is a second floor but when we were there, the second floor seating had been reserved for a large group. Fortunately, there was room at the counter for the two of us. This was great since we could watch food being prepared.
...Usually, you receive a menu but we were told by a friendly server that the menu was on the wall, written in chalk on a couple of boards. Some of dishes included items we have not heard of before but all was nicely explained by the server. Still, we wondered if this was really the place our friend had recommended.
...However, after we were served and tasted the food, we knew we were in the right place. I had the strangest sounding beer on the menu, Magic Hat, and between my wife and I we had Saigon Chicken, Mango Salad and Crab rice. All were excellent with the right amount of flavoring. We ate all with chopsticks although the server indicated that they have forks for those who need them. We did not.
...Everything had been so good that we decided to try a desert of Mochi Japanese Ice Cream. We had never heard of this but felt adventersome. An excellent decision! Small rice pastries, sort of like ravioli, were filled with ice cream and we were told that these were meant to be picked up and eaten. What a wonderful way to top off an excellent meal.
