Tonight is our first night here, as soon as we walked in the door we were greeted with a welcome and a friendly smile. They already had our paperwork waiting for us and keys in hand. Not only is the scenery beautiful but so is the hotel and the staff. Thank you for a great welcome.

Good place for a family (reunion, wedding)
Very clean, modern, wonderful staff.
We live in Miami so we have stayed here for large family get togethers over the holidays.Yes, it is expensive, but we always feel we got our money's worth.

We went to the Westin on a spur of the moment trip. The room rate was a bit more than most others, but no doubt worth every cent. Our room was clean and convienent to the pool area. Loved the upstairs bar area overlooking Mallory Square, the not too crowded spot for the best sunset in Key West, a true hidden gem. We had the Sunday brunch and although its 40 pp, it was worth every cent. From the seafood selection, eggs, carving station and then to the desserts, everything was done well. We rented bikes for our means of travel and parked our car in valet for the duration of the trip. The bike racks were right by the entrance to the building so it was super easy! The ladies at the conceirge desk were very helpful with building our iternary for the weekend. Only downside about this trip was the long traffic filled drive...well it was the 4th of July weekend.

Room Tip: First floor by the pool will lead you to the lovely bar and bistro. Super close and quiet!

Fabulous Sunset, superb amenities, excellent staff and food was very good. No beach, but you shouldn't expect white sandy beaches in Key West. Actually, it's quite the opposite. Parking a bit expensive in my opinion, but hey it's the only First class resort other than the Pier House.

Room Tip: My room over looked the pool. Very nice..beautiful tropical feel

This is a nice place to stay. It is right on the water (cruise ship dock/ seawall) where you can watch the sunset (Mallory Square). There is no beach access from this hotel, but there is a nice pool and spa. The only negative part about staying here was paying for parking. On Sundays, they have the most amazing brunch for $40. It's expensive, but it's amazing!

We stayed at the Westin on July 1 & 2, as a spur-of-the-moment trip down to the Keys with our two small dogs while taking a week off. We have stayed all over Key West at various b & b's but never a commercial hotel, but decided to cash in some Starwood points and make a quick trip. The reason we chose the Westin was that they are dog friendly and did not bat an eye at our two small pooches. They were accommodating and friendly. The room was typical Westin - comfortable beds with clean white linens, very nice bathroom, spacious room with a small balcony with chairs and table, overlooking the courtyard pool but also providing privacy with very lush tropical palms framing the pool area.

There is a 2nd floor open bar / patio that is perfectly laid out to watch the sunset with a cold drink, which we did prior to our dinner downstairs on the outdoor terrace, which also were happy to accommodate our dogs and even brought them their own water bowls. The food was superb and we had a ringside seat for the sunset celebration on Mallory Square. We have walked past the terrace many times on our visits to Key West, but never sampled the food, which was our mistake! The food was delish - the seared ahi tuna appetizer was fantastic, as was the crab stuffed jumbo shrimp.

The Westin Key West is well worth the money to stay, and if you are traveling with your small dogs, very happy to have them there.

Room Tip: Be sure to request a room in the building overlooking the pool if you want to be close to Mallory Sq...

Check-in was a bad experience. At first, we were very pleased to hear that we were being upgraded to a better room: "4th floor, harbor view" said the guy at check-in. Then the power went out. We patiently waited 30-45 minutes in the lobby until they could get the computers working again (why does a WESTIN hotel not have a backup system for power failures?). Finally when things were up and working again, the same reception guy claimed that did not recall ever mentioning anything about a room upgrade. My wife and i were ok with the room we had paid for, but i feel it is wrong to get people excited and happy about an upgrade and then not deliver on it. Even after we did get checked-in, they could not get keys made. So we had to wait another 15 mins to get someone to let us into our rooms. This happened only after i complained that we were tired and getting fed up. I understand that power went out, but the situation could have been handled better: a backup should have been in place to check people in when something like this happens, and something should have been done to make guests comfortable while they waited. At least offer a drink or direct guests to a restaurant until the power comes back. Offer to hold their luggage. I am not from the hotel industry, but i think even i could have handled that situation better than their staff and manager.
The other issue was the parking garage. One would expect that when you are staying at a WESTIN and also paying extra for parking, there would be an elevator so that you would have to lug bags over stairs. We had light bags so we were ok, but i stopped to help couples with strollers and heavier bags. The valet parking guys just look at you with the attitude implying that if you are not going to pay for valet parking then deal with the stairs yourself coz there are no elevators.
Also remember to add $25/day to your hotel rate for a ridiculous 'resort charge' even if you never go to the pool for 'kabobs at noon'. If you are rich and can pay for the most expensive rooms, then i think you will enjoy yourself here. But if you are going to get a standard room, be prepared for sub-par service and treatment. Otherwise it is a nice hotel, great location, beautiful views and good food.
