Owner description: Tropical gardens set in an old fort
Reviewed 16 March 2014

West Martello is the home of the Key West Garden Club. Near Higgs Beach. The plants are gorgeous & labelled. The gardners are helpful. Nice spot for photos.

If you are looking for some time away from the hussle and bussle and like to see pretty plants, trees and flowers then this is the place to go...........no admission charge but of course you will want to give them a suitable donation towards its upkeep I am sure........pleasant views around the beach area and bay........probably not the place to take the kids and not a lot to keep them entertained........so more aimed at the oldies..........

This place is beautiful. Once a fort, it is now home to the garden club. There is a beautiful botanical garden that my husband spent hours taking pictures of. Also, there are plenty of sculptures, if that type of art is your thing. Personally, I'm more of a history buff, so I would have preferred something closer to a museum, but that is just personal preference and it is hard to overlook the beauty of this place.

This is an old fort of some kind right on the Atlantic ocean. It is managed/run by the key West garden club. Mainly just a very pretty garden with numerous tropical plants, trees, lizards and a few snakes crawling around. A very relaxing place. I enjoy taking photos when I go there. Not much for kids though but a relaxing place just the same. There is no charge but they do survive on donations.

This is a lovely garden, staffed by volunteers. Free, though I'm sure you will want to make a donation. Great way to spend an hour or so enjoying the plants and sculptures, staff very informative too. Go here if you want a change from the beach and Duval St.
