We planned a visit to Key West with two other couples to celebrate a friend's last chemo treatment. Because this was a special occasion, we didn't question the price of $559 a night for a one bedroom suite although as my husband constantly stays at Marriotts on his business travels we were surprised at the price. We had just stayed at the Jefferson Hotel in Washington for a much lower rate and a much better experience. The view from our window at the Marriott was considered oceanview whereas it was really bay view that also gave you a view of a large billboard for the Comfort Inn and an industrial complex. Not pretty. Many Marriotts give free continental breakfasts but that was not the case here. You would think that they would try to make a small gesture of giving you breakfast after yo have paid 4559 for a room. They have a gimmick of a free breakfast buffet with one paid dinner but nowhere do they make it clear that your dinner must be a full entree. This means if you order a pizza, salad and cocktail and your tab is $30 it still doesn't qualify as an entree for the free breakfast. How petty. I haven't noticed on the other reviews many comments about the neighborhood that the Marriott is located. It is very honky tonk with convenience stores etc. Definitely not a resort type of environment. The hotel's little stretch of sand looks out on the same view as I described above. The actual beach(Smathers) is 2 1/2 mile away and although my husband and I were able to ride bikes to it our friends couldn't and had to take a taxi as the shuttle only drops off and picks up there every other day. The housekeeping doesn't come until late in the afternoon just in time to be there when you come back from the beach for a shower at 4 pm. They don't speak English so you have to call housekeeping to explain for them to come back later. The pluses were the most wonderful woman bartender and the fact that the rooms were very clean. I would never recommend this hotel.
