We just returned from a family trip to Key West for my sister's wedding. Several family members and friends stayed at the Marriott Beachside and we were so happy we did! We had the three bedroom presidential suite in Room 417 (one of my sister's had the 3 bedroom suite next door in Room 418 and also loved it). It was BEAUTIFUL - incredibly spacious, perfectly updated with modern decor and spotless. Even better than the pictures online. Our balcony had a private staircase right down to the pool, which the kids loved. The pool was beautiful with a very elegant pool bar on one end and a small sandy beach on the either. We hosted a party in the suite/pool area one evening for about 30 people and had a great time and plenty of room. It seems the key to this hotel is that you need to go with the suites not the hotel rooms. It is true that you are not right in the middle of downtown but there is a shuttle and frankly, we were here for a wedding - not to hit the bars with our kids. The set-up was beautiful and the hotel staff was fantastic and over-the-top accommodating all throughout our stay. Thank you Marriott Beachside!!!

Room Tip: Rooms 417 and 418 were beautiful 3 bedroom suites with private staircases directly down to the pool. So convenient with kids!!

Stayed one night for work, not realizing how big the property was and how far is be from the "business center". This area is not geared for someone looking to get some work done.

Check in was easy, rooms were nice appointed but did not like having to open two doors to get to my room. Seems like they have a nice shuttle system. Would stay with family or friends

We spent four nights at this "resort" and had a fabulous room on the top floor overlooking the gulf. Very nice two story balcony with an upstairs area for sunning. Beautiful sunset views. The room was huge with a full sized kitchen and a washer and dryer which was especially nice for all the swim and beach clothes. And we are tall, but could totally stretch out in the comfortable jacuzzi tub. That being said, it was our first trip to Key West, and it is a small island. So the resort itself is small. I wouldn't even call the beach area a beach. The pool is nice but not at all large and pretty crowded. The private cabanas have no amenities and are not even by the pool. No swim up bar like we are used to at many, many other Marriott resorts (i.e., every other Marriott resort we have ever stayed at in the Caribbean and Mexico). So in a nutshell:
*Upgrade to a suite, it's worth it for the extra room and kitchen and w/d
*Use the shuttle to go downtown (btw--the driver will happily let you off at another area if you just ask, Mallory Square, tour trains, or boat charters, etc. He was very accommodating.) It's FREE :)
*Taxis are pretty cheap and even with the construction, it's less than $20 to go downtown (each way--that includes the tip for two people--it was $14 or $15 dollars one way) if you don't want to wait for the hourly shuttle.
*Don't waste your $$ on a cabana and don't expect a big pool and forget swimming at the "beach". There is a sandy area to walk along if you do want to take a beach stroll.
*Only one restaurant (which was excellent) but it is fine dining. Room service is the only option if you want something casual. Another reason why we questioned that they called this a "resort".
It is a nice property with typically consistent Marriott friendliness and service. We enjoyed staying there and took full advantage of the amenities. But don't expect restaurant options, a beach or a big pool.

Room Tip: The suites have an entrance that shares with another room. The door to the outside is heavy and slams shut (we tried to hold it every time we can in) because it is VERY loud and you can hear it every time if you don't have considerate neighbors like us who try not to let it slam. :)

Thank you for your comments and you are correct Key west is not a beach town as the beaches here are man made due to the coral reef off our coast which stops any waves from reaching our shores. I'm sorry you missed the Blue Bar and Grille at the pool that serves more casual foods; we're glad you enjoyed the room and amenities and thank you for your business.

Spent a girls weekend in January of 2013 .Arrived late and was able to get a room at a great rate, after a long hot day of travel the room was very clean and very COOL , the air conditioner worked very WELL to have to keep up with the heat outside! I am not all about fancy .... As we travel a lot... This place was perfect with everything close by. Pool very nice, beach not so great... But overall we liked everything about this property... WILL stay again! We were able to get a cab to the local grocery store and get some breakfast items for about $20 roundtrip.. Gtreat staff too.
