This hotel is a good stop over in the Keys as it sits in the middle. This also represents the type of hotel it is, in the middle. It's location is good in that it is next door to a marina, Wahoo's, and a Brazilian buffet which makes drinking, eating, and fishing without having to drive, an easy task. The rooms are in three categories: facing the beach, facing the garden, or small studios that face the tennis court. Having stayed in all three, they are all OK in that they are functional and clean. There is a breakfast offered in the morning which is perhaps the best one that I've had that actually comes with a room. It is hot, clean, and monitored by a pleasant attendant. The office staff are efficient, businesslike, and will make every attempt to see to it that you are taken care of. However, underline "businesslike". All in all, we've never had a bad stay, never been inundated with bugs, and never had problems. If you are looking for a Hyatt or Westin type of stay, this isn't the place. However, if you are looking for clean, handy, reasonable, and calm, this is the place.

Room Tip: Book your fishing trip next door, bring your boat, drop it in here, go to Wahoo's, look at the o...

If you want chic luxury, this is not your spot. What it IS, though, is: clean, neat, friendly, scenic, private, calm, and affordable. Reality check- you're in the Keys, so chic is not always the case. In fact, the atmosphere is often quite the opposite.

THE BEACH!!!! Was perfect for a Keys beach. It's not huge, but it's accessible and it's clear that they make great efforts to keep it maintained. I was only interested in the ocean, so I can't comment on the pools. However, the Chesapeake has a gorgeous beach view.

We went during the slow season (late September), and we had the place to ourselves. In fact, we often felt like we were at our own private island getaway. We got married on the beach at Chesapeake and being such gracious folks, there was no charge. Note: we eloped, had a short ceremony and had an officiant and a photographer for a grand total of 4 people.

If you're going to the Keys and you can't afford Cheeca or such places, AND you're more interested in the gorgeous surroundings than luxe sheets and towels, Chesapeake is amazing!

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and get a beachfront room- it's SO worth it!

Had one of the king bed suites with whirpool tub, oceanfront.

Awesome in every way except as noted below which prevented it from getting five out of five.

I'm not sure about the 'resort' portion because I was on my honeymoon and we didn't try to take advantage of any of the 'resort' stuff. Either way the resort fee is probably excessive.

The fire alarm went off one night for hours because they couldn't figure out what set it off or how to reset. To turn it off, eventually they shut it completely down which is not the safest idea since I don't think they identified why it went off in the first place.

The internet was working maybe 20% of the time.

The cleaning staff will clean up your dishes for you but my wife felt bad so I had to clean them myself :(

We found good rate on expedia which rated it 4 stars. It is a poor make over of a 60's hotel/motel. Beds are ok and clean. Bathroom very dirty, hair and dirt on the floor and rusted hinges on the bath door. Dirty stained bathtub. Bath door is not solid and is laminate and falling apart. Was in room 108 if the hotel reads this and wants to make some corrections. TV very poor reception. Coffee maker didn't work. We chose because of expedia rating and half the price of Cheeca Lodge. Mistake. We prepaid 2 nights but checked out after first night. Went to Hawks's Cay 20 miles down the road as Cheeca only had 1BR suites available at $$++. HK was was amazing. You get what you pay for. If you are just looking for a place to get some zzzz's and dash out to fish or dive the next morning, Chesapeake would be ok for you. But if you are taking your wife for a quality experience, forget it. Oh, btw, our favorite restaurant in the upper/mid keys is the Morada Bay at MM 81.6, on the Bay side. Just past the cell phone tower going south on the right side of the road. We go to the Keys often, and Morada Bay is our favorite stop on the way to Key West. Great drinks and food for both lunch and dinner at a great price. Great bay views.

After receiving a glowing recommendation from a friend who had stayed at the Chesapeake Beach Resort, I made a two nights reservation via their website for an ocean front room and paid a deposit equivalent to one night's stay using my credit card. I promptly received an email confirming the reservation, and my credit card was charged. Now, three weeks after making the reservation, I have received an email from Thaddeus Flesch, Director of Operations, saying that the reservation has been cancelled. He blamed a problem they experienced with their website booking engine saying it allowed the room to be booked when in fact it was not available. No mention was made regarding the possibility of another room or even the suggestion of another hotel.in the area. He did say that I should get the deposit back in a few days. He also said I could call if I wished to discuss it. Moral of the story - maybe the best way to deal with this hotel is the old fashioned way - by phone, if at all.

We stopped at Chesapeake lodge and were greeted in a friendly and professional manner. We were shown the room to see if we were happy to take it or not. The room was very large with all comforts and in a quiet part of the resort.
There are pools and a beach with water sports facilities available, but the beach is not really accessible.
The staff were only too pleased to give us suggestions on where to go for dinner and be of assistance for our travel arrangements.
Would definitely recommend.

It was not to my liking and standard at all. The breakfast room is so small it's hilarious. People were on top of each other and it was really a joke to be honest. The room was ok, nothing to talk about. The best part of the hotel is knowing you'll never stay there again, especially for the price we paid. If it were $30.00 per night maybe I will reconsider, because only at that price you'll get a buck for money.

BTW, I actually stayed there in September 2010; trip advisor didn't allow me to go that far back.
