“Great value and beautiful resort!”
Reviewed 20 May 2014 via mobile

My wife and I stayed here one night and LOVED the resort! The grounds are beautiful and you can't be the view!

We took advantage of the free water sports and took a kayak out. The free breakfast was great with a lot of options!

Only downside was that the bathroom in the room was in need of a little TLC.

The resort was set up for couples, families, etc.

Can't beat the price, and the location on the water is beautiful. The continental breakfast was great, and had several options. Only reason why I didn't rate it a 5 is because there's always room for improvement. The rooms were great, but the door wasn't 100% sealed so we heard some of the outside noises. Other than that, it was great stay. Unfortunately, we didn't take too much advantage of the facility itself because we were out exploring the area and the rest of the Keys all day, but there are two pools on the facility, and plenty of places to lay out and soak up the sun next to the water. Once we arrived, we were very pleased with the place we choose over other locations that were located next to nothing and no restaurants. It is about a 20-30 min. drive to Marathon, a little farther than expected, but still nice location.

Just returned from a girls weekend at Chesapeake Beach Resort. The location is beautiful, the price is right, and the service friendly. The buildings/rooms could use some updating but I was happy to overlook that for the gorgeous views, beach and pools.

I recommend the Chesapeake if you want to stay in Islamorada but don't need the extravagance of Cheeca Lodge, but you don't want the bottom of the barrel you find at the Days Inn. Have your expectations set, this is a true Keys property, so it is a little dated, nothing fancy, best way to describe it is that they serve Maxwell House coffee in the rooms and at breakfast. We stayed 4 nights and spent 3 days on boats, so it was more of a base camp. We swam in the pools once and they were fine, nothing special, and snorkeled off the beach but it is cloudy and not much to see. We were 3 guys so we enjoyed the same breakfast each day: the powdered eggs in a bag, sausage and bacon did us just fine, as well as cereal, bread products, etc. Nice place to sit outside. At night we enjoyed beers and cigars in the lounge chairs around the marina which was very nice. When we checked in there were 3 front desk staff and they have lots of employees that are always driving golf carts all over the property - not that the property is so big you need golf carts, but the workers really enjoy zipping around in them. Wahoo's was good for a happy hour drink, though it was our least favorite dinner of all four nights, the food is just ok. We stayed in one of the Villas and were really happy with the price and again, expectations set to the Keys, it was a good Keys property and we would stay again in the future.

Room Tip: The noise was no issue from US 1, but could see if you stayed in a room like 101, 201 I think, that...

We booked this hotel as lodging for our destination wedding to the Keys. None of our guests had any major issues or complaints while we were here. It is a great location and the two pools are nice to have. One seemed to be for kids and the other for adults. It is right on the water and the grounds are very pretty at night. The interior of the rooms needs to be updated. Our beach side suite with jacuzzi tub was clean and had everything we needed. The kitchen, living and table area are a good size. The bed was comfortable. But it was hard to see past the peeling paint and rotted wood. For a beach hotel in the Keys it is a good value and close to restaurants and shopping.
They have a breakfast bar each day that was not that good but it was filling and free. Charter boats are docked out on the water and ready to take you out each morning. If you are good with an older furnished hotel in need of updating then this is will do fine. But be aware that the other reviews of carpet, paint, furnishings and rust are true.

Room Tip: Our beach side suite with jacuzzi tub was the better of the rooms we saw. The villas seemed to be in...

This was our second visit to this resort. We were there two years ago and I have to say, the outside grounds are still very well maintained, but the inside is in need of attention. We stayed in the Villas, and there were stains on the Master Carpet, the Stove Top Burners were rusted , and the Bathroom Fixtures need to be bolted down or replaced. The floors really didn't look clean. The units are getting very tired and in need of updates. Just a good coat of paint on the outside door would be a great improvement. Outside on the Patio, the ceilings are starting to crumble. The bed on our last visit was very uncomfortable, and when I inquired in the office about the Mattress's in other units in hopes to be moved, I was told they were only 2 years old. They were lumpy and every morning we woke up stiff. We looked in Marathon and other Keys for another place to stay for our next visit, and even with this said, we would go back to Chesapeake Beach Resort.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money for the Villa Suites

We stayed 2 nights at the Chesapeake. The room was small for 2 double beds.
The A/C was the old style above door-very noisy-very hard to reach. The carpet looked dirty.
Bathroom very old with an ugly tub and floor.
Both pools were ripped up and pealing on the bottom.
The breakfast was prefab powdered eggs, precooked bacon, ok yoghurt, bagels and juice.
Nice outdoor table area facing water.
Would not suggest staying in main building. Maybe rooms facing water are better.
Would not return. Would not recommend at all.

Room Tip: If you must stay in Islamorada, choose another hotel. If you must stay here, you must pay a resort c...
