“great escape from northern rat race”
Reviewed 21 April 2010

I am a dad with three children and wanted to show my kids what paradise looks like. We had no idea where we would stay, but drove to Islamorada and stumbled on the resort April 7, 2010 What a find, room clean.great view, great staff. awsome heated pools and non motorized water sports were so much fun. While we were there a manatee joined us min the cove and my kids got to feed and pet it. BE BACK SOON

This was a comfortable hotel. We stayed on the 3rd floor, in a clean and well kept room. We had a balcony which overlooked the sandy area/ocean. The beds were comfortable and the pillows were nice. We had no odor as other travelers mentioned. Complimentary breakfast was available. I liked having the bikes, kayaks, and wifi. I watched someone get a massage on the "beach". The beach was the best one in the keys, given that there aren't any and this was man-made. The location was very central. I would definitely consider staying there.

We got married at Chesapeake in April & stayed at the resort for 3 nights. The wedding was perfect! Thad is the wedding coordinator at the hotel & was super helpful the entire time. I could email him with any questions & he'd quickly respond. He seemed genuinely concerned with making our day perfect. The hotel was nice & clean, the staff was normal. The breakfast was fine for us but it isn't much (cereal, bagels, muffins, fruit etc.) Included in the resort fee is the breakfast & unlimited access to their non-mortorized recreation stuff. The beach is really nice (& was never crowded even though we were there Thursday-Sunday) There's a lagoon to park your boat. They have cottages separate from the hotel rooms for larger groups which worked out nicely for our wedding party. For the wedding you have the south beach blocked off for you (including the large tiki-hut) We had 36 people at our wedding & we all fit in the tiki-hut. For the Keys this hotel is not dated, the bed wasn't that comfortable but the room had some nice amenities (large flat screen TV & I-pod station)

Room #108 ($159. + taxes and fees AND $18.00 for continental breakfast and use of nonmotorized beach equipment (which we didn't use).
Very small room. Hard to get luggage for 2 in the room. Road noise was very bad! Constant traffice noise. At 5:30 a.m. we got woke up by garbage truck dumping dumpsters. Extremely loud. Beds sucked! Worse beds we ever had in a hotel. Both of us had trouble sleeping. We both had back aches the next morning. Not a restful stay at all! We would have had a better night sleep in our car. Bathtub didn't drain well while showering. There was mold on the ceiling. The door was in bad shape (coming apart by floor), no cap on metal door stop by floor, you could cut your foot. Only two towels in the bathroom. Had to ask for more. There was an old AC unit mounted about the entry door. You couldn't reach and there wasn't anything to stand on to change the settings. There was no peep hole or top security swing lock on the entry door. Breakfast was nothing to get excited about. NOT worth $18.00 we were charged. Can't believe this had AAA approval.

My husband and I stayed at the Cheasapeake on our last fishing trip to Islamorada because of its proximity to sportfishing and I read of recent renovations to the property. They have a great spot on the Atlantic side of the key with terrific ocean breezes but the windows in our room couldn't be opened. The handles were removed. The a/c unit was ancient and loud and they painted over the old wallpaper. The room was small and overpriced. The captain of their sportfishing boat had no incentive to catch fish for his $900.00 fee.

I booked this "resort" after viewing the web site. What a dissapointment. The location is pretty but the place is an old motel. Our room had some new furniture and bedding. The bathroom had holes in the wall that had been painted over but not repaired as well as patched places around the toilet where the patches were failing. There were 2 towels and washcloths for a double room which were old and thin. The carpet was dirty.

The senior rate was $288 but with the resort fee and taxes came to $344/night. I had expected much more for that price. We left after the first night and went to the Hyatt Beach in Clearwater Beach and for the same price enjoyed a beautiful hotel. Save your money and stay someplace else!

We spent the weekend there and loved it. Great views and right next door to great charter fishing. The rooms have been updated and done very well. They are beautiful. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. They went above and beyond for us even charging our dead car battery.
