“Dirty, disgusting rooms!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2014

We recently stayed at the smugglers cove. If I had to describe our stay in one word it would be HORRIFIC! When you walk in the room they have air fresheners hanging firm the ceiling fan and the ac unit. First thing we find is the maids money envelope that they leave to reuse for each guest. I turn it over and it reads coffee maker doesn't work and room has big cockroaches! What business wouldn't throw that away so other guests wouldn't see it??? Then we smell this horrific smell (that made me vomit)? That would be our shower with sewage over flowing out of the drain. Hours later (because not one worker will get there until 11am) when I finally find a worker they can't even apologize nor give us a different room. Smugglers cove is a disguising place with bugs, sewage, cats running all around the property and a bar that smells of vomit and cat piss.

I live locally. Did not stay at the hotel.
Kept hearing ads and rumors of there great hamburgers so had the opportunity to stop by and try one.
Burger was very good, at least a half pound. It was cooked as specified (med. rare) served on a lightly toasted steamed bun.
Juicy, nice flavor. Had the coleslaw as a side, it was good too.
My date had the old bay steamed/boiled shrimp. They were quite large, nice serving, and she said they were very good.

Dessert was primo. A deep fried ice cream serving in a fried tortilla bowl with chocolate and whipped cream.
We had a brand new waitress who was polite and friendly and did a nice job.
All in all would give this lunch a two thumbs up.

Stayed here while using Freedom Boat Club. Freedoms dock is right at the front of the hotel which works our great. The rooms looked to have been refurbished with the last 18 Months. You can tell they are trying to upgrade things. Will try and stay here every time I use Freedoms Boats.

Room Tip: We chose the suite at 159.00 that night. Nice Clean two rooms and little kitchenette area.

Driving down on a guys only fishing trip with boat in tow, I was sure nothing would knock us off our horse. We are all pretty salty and accustomed to sleeping on boats, sand or not at all and knowing the weekend was about the water hotel worries were last on my mind.

I'm a very understanding person and a business owner so the check in office in a portable trailer didn't phase me. I was sure it was temporary. Forget that. And this post will not be about the outdated rooms, linens, doors, windows, floors, cabinets, etc...

What should have been a dead giveaway is an air fresher hanging from ceiling fan of the room. Quickly running out of the room to get the boat in the water and get start the weekend cut initial time down to nil, when we returned for the night we discovered the reason the air fresher hung from the fan of death room #6.

A killer, potent, disease carrying septic smell was pumping out of the shower drain and had no mercy. You would have to hold your breath to use the restroom. Tried to use the paper thin towels to block the smell. The first night a scholar of a staffs man pounded bleach in the shower so now the bleach would burn your nostrils and the septic smell would have a better chance of finding its way in your bloodstream.

Of course it was their last room. It would take a large effort to move the boat an gear somewhere else. During the day we were out and got fresh air. What sets this apart is how the staff dealt with it. The rude restaurant girls called us the "hotel people". The manager said he would do something special for us next time. More important he played stupid, said he didn't know there was a problem. I told him why do you hand a Yankee Candle air fresher from the ceiling.

I tried so hard to excuse them as a struggling business during the bad economy but their $400k fishing boat led me to believe in profit before guests.

Room Tip: Hold your breath.

Located on Snake Creek. A very small motel with it's office in a small trailer in the parking lot. Friendly staff. If boating for the day and you need to catch a bite to eat for lunch or dinner then maybe, the food was okay and dock space is available but if you think is is a hotel you will be sadly disappointed. We stayed one night. Lot's of bikes with loud pipes coming and going all night long. They do offer entertainment on weekends. No staff is available until roughly 11:00am(ish). The rooms are extremely outdated, the lock on our window was broken, the beds sag in the middle. This place should be classified as a restaurant that has a few extra rooms and not a hotel or motel.

In the heart of Islamorada. A wonderful place to hang your hat and fill your belly. The food and service was very good - I look forward to returning for the conch fritters and bloody mary's. The band was great, took requests and played "covers." The room was clean, comfortable and in-line with the price point. Bring your own bath products unless you like postage stamp soap.

Lively bar and very friendly staff. Caught some Tuna on a charter and the chef prepared it wonderfully. Rooms were a little old but neat and clean. Good place to stop on our way to the lower keys. You can arrange a boat out of smugglers or one of the many marinas close by.

Room Tip: Choose an upstairs view if you want to be over the marina. Downstairs if you have kids or older adul...
