We were allowed to check into our rooms early and were pleased with the friendly service and clean rooms. We had fished the night before and were able to freeze our catch in the small frig/freezers provided. I've never stayed anywhere that didn't have carpet so the bare floor took some getting used to. I just kept the flip flops handy! What else would you wear in the Keys anyway? Our 81 year old father had a small room he simply adored. I would definitely recommend staying here for a good nights sleep, friendly staff and very reasonable prices. We couldn't figure out how to use the ceiling fan, but the A/C was very adequate for the how hot it was.

We booked two rooms in Key Lantern for 3 Nights in March. The rooms where absolutely clean and we found everything as expected. We paid 55 bucks per night so if you are looking for a simple clean motel in an excellent location and with very good prices i a can recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Thank goodness that places like the Key Lantern still exist, because they let the frugal road-tripper pay not much more than what a good night's sleep ought to be worth. All we needed was a cheap place to flop for the night on our way to Key West, and the Key Lantern delivered beautifully.

This is one of those old surviving roadside mom-and-pop motels where the best amenity is that your car can be parked three feet from your door. Our room was roughly eight feet by twelve, and crammed into it were a comfortable double bed, cable TV, a dresser, a small refrigerator, a desk, two chairs, a luggage rack, and count 'em, four lamps. I don't recall seeing a nightstand, but it might have been buried under our stuff, which took no time to consume a room this size once the bags were opened. Off in the corner was a smallish bathroom that even featured hot running water!

The Key Lantern is located within walking distance to some good food and drink. Next door is the Lor-e-lei waterfront restaurant and bar. We showed up too late for their sunset celebration, but it would have been spectacular that day. If you want to sample a much fancier resort, Cheeca Lodge is across the street. We opted for the Whistle Stop, a local's saloon about a half-mile away. Like on any small island, everything is nearby, but this humble little motel is in a particularly good spot.

The Key Lantern is obviously not for everybody, for instance if you want a week-long resort experience or you're claustrophobic, but at $55 in the high season, it's hard to beat as a pit-stop.

We spent two nights in the Blue Fin Inn Motel and we took two rooms with kitchenette. My room was very big and had two queen beds, a tiny bathroom and a wooden ceiling. The room where my friends stayed in was smaller but they had a larger bathroom. Both were clean. I would definitely stay there again.

I've visited these two properties for several years. It's a most enjoyable break from the rat race of Miami/Lauderdale area. Laid back, friendly, clean (not immaculate but clean) and most of all, it reflects the mind set of the Florida Keys. My girlfriend and I bring a stereo and buy some flowers and make an effeciency here our weekend retreat. On the other side of the highway is a $400/night resort..... you get a mint on your pillow there........ I bring my own to the Blue Fin/Key Lantern. If you like Jimmy Buffett.... you'll like staying here.
