We rented Kayaks from Paul at the Kayak Shack at Robbie's Marina and had a fabulous day. Paul and the other young man ( sorry I didn't get his name) were very helpful in getting us situated and giving directions on how to paddle out to Indian Key. My husband and I were in a double kayak and our 17 yr. old son in a single. It really was a pretty easy 20 minute paddle out to Indian Key over fairly shallow water and sea grass beds. We did spy a couple Starfish on the way out. Once on Indian Key we beached the kayaks and then had to blaze a trail to find the marked trail to get where we could snorkel. The snorkeling was not very good as the waves, such as they were, were rough and the area was so rocky with coral it was hard to even get out into the water. We finally gave up on that and paddle back to Robbie's. We were able to just beach the kayaks there and have lunch and a drink at the Hungry Tarpon. After lunch we took the kayaks to the mangrove trails and had a great time exploring there. We were disappointed we didn't see any manatees, but we did see a small crocodile. Be aware that you are never far from Highway 1 and can hear the road traffic while paddling through the trails. Not anyone's fault, just not as "back to nature" as we would have liked. The kayaks were very comfortable and the staff was great. We had a great afternoon!
