We rented Kayaks from Paul at the Kayak Shack at Robbie's Marina and had a fabulous day. Paul and the other young man ( sorry I didn't get his name) were very helpful in getting us situated and giving directions on how to paddle out to Indian Key. My husband and I were in a double kayak and our 17 yr. old son in a single. It really was a pretty easy 20 minute paddle out to Indian Key over fairly shallow water and sea grass beds. We did spy a couple Starfish on the way out. Once on Indian Key we beached the kayaks and then had to blaze a trail to find the marked trail to get where we could snorkel. The snorkeling was not very good as the waves, such as they were, were rough and the area was so rocky with coral it was hard to even get out into the water. We finally gave up on that and paddle back to Robbie's. We were able to just beach the kayaks there and have lunch and a drink at the Hungry Tarpon. After lunch we took the kayaks to the mangrove trails and had a great time exploring there. We were disappointed we didn't see any manatees, but we did see a small crocodile. Be aware that you are never far from Highway 1 and can hear the road traffic while paddling through the trails. Not anyone's fault, just not as "back to nature" as we would have liked. The kayaks were very comfortable and the staff was great. We had a great afternoon!

Paul and Kylie are great! Super nice, great kayaks, and easy paddling on both the gulf and ocean sides. The sunset kayak on the gulf side is highly recommended!

We read all the great reviews they had and decided to check it out for ourselves. We went out to little Indian key first which was a difficult paddle for me but no problem for my boyfriend. We snorkeled from there and saw a ton of fish and lobsters. Then we went back and through the mangroves. We got within 3 feet of a baby crocodile. Really cool! No manatees but we did not see any in the whole ten days so maybe it's not season for them to be around.

We went to Islamodora after reading the reviews about the Kayak Shack. The staff was friendly and helpful, the kayaks were in good shape and the cost was reasonable. We kayaked over to another island, walked around for a bit, then came back to go through the mangroves. It was a wonderful four hours.

We rented a couple of kayaks and went around the mangroves since it was too windy to go out into the open ocean. We loved the experience and saw the baby manatee (its 6 feet long) and a 3 foot crocodile and a ton of fish. Great experience on a lovely day. If we were staying longer in the Keys we'd come back for sure.
