“Great guys work here”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

We (family of 4 with 2 teens) rented two double kayaks to do the mangroves and Indian Key. The guys were great letting us know info but we still managed to paddle into a trail that got smaller and smaller (think Indiana Jones needing a machete to clear the path). My 16 yr old son thought it was the best thing on the trip that we got "lost" (we just paddled back to where we took a wrong turn, but almost did get stuck because of shallow water on that wrong path and had to push ourselves back out grabbing branches). Because we took that wrong turn it took longer to do the trails than expected and didn't have enough time to go out to Indian Key (they close at 6 pm, but told us we still could take our time and return the kayaks later, just that no one could "rescue" us should we get stuck out at Indian Key). He (didn't catch his name) was nice enough to give us a coupon to return the next day just to go to Indian Key for a couple of hours, much appreciated! Indian Key was somewhat underwhelming but still neat to see and snorkel around on the far side. I'd rent from these guys again for sure!

“Great way to spend the day.”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

We rented Kayaks from Paul at the Kayak Shack at Robbie's Marina and had a fabulous day. Paul and the other young man ( sorry I didn't get his name) were very helpful in getting us situated and giving directions on how to paddle out to Indian Key. My husband and I were in a double kayak and our 17 yr. old son in a single. It really was a pretty easy 20 minute paddle out to Indian Key over fairly shallow water and sea grass beds. We did spy a couple Starfish on the way out. Once on Indian Key we beached the kayaks and then had to blaze a trail to find the marked trail to get where we could snorkel. The snorkeling was not very good as the waves, such as they were, were rough and the area was so rocky with coral it was hard to even get out into the water. We finally gave up on that and paddle back to Robbie's. We were able to just beach the kayaks there and have lunch and a drink at the Hungry Tarpon. After lunch we took the kayaks to the mangrove trails and had a great time exploring there. We were disappointed we didn't see any manatees, but we did see a small crocodile. Be aware that you are never far from Highway 1 and can hear the road traffic while paddling through the trails. Not anyone's fault, just not as "back to nature" as we would have liked. The kayaks were very comfortable and the staff was great. We had a great afternoon!

“Super Fun!”

Paul and Kylie are great! Super nice, great kayaks, and easy paddling on both the gulf and ocean sides. The sunset kayak on the gulf side is highly recommended!

“Great time”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

We read all the great reviews they had and decided to check it out for ourselves. We went out to little Indian key first which was a difficult paddle for me but no problem for my boyfriend. We snorkeled from there and saw a ton of fish and lobsters. Then we went back and through the mangroves. We got within 3 feet of a baby crocodile. Really cool! No manatees but we did not see any in the whole ten days so maybe it's not season for them to be around.

“Great service”
Reviewed 24 March 2014

We went to Islamodora after reading the reviews about the Kayak Shack. The staff was friendly and helpful, the kayaks were in good shape and the cost was reasonable. We kayaked over to another island, walked around for a bit, then came back to go through the mangroves. It was a wonderful four hours.
