We were pleasantly surprised with the beauty of the pool area and beach. Very well maintained property. The rooms were nice...not fancy, but very comfortable and clean...nice sized. The screened in area was a real plus...with areas to grill. We were there as a couple, but could see where it would be a great place for kids. I was pleasantly surprised...after we had been gone a few days, I realized I had left a brand new jacket there. When I called, they informed me that they had it. I was so pleased that it was still there. Staff was nice and overall...a good place to stay. Not 5 star...but still very nice!

We arrived late and the room we reserved was not the room we were given. After a short phone call to the main desk with our concerns, we were upgraded to a suite immediately. We had a lovely short stay, found the resort to be very cosy, in perfect condition and quiet. A beautiful beach, delightful pools, and food in the restaurant was wonderful...although a bit pricey. Would stay there again. Recommended and would be especially nice for families with children.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 513 which is a suite with large living room, kitchenette, king bed and large bath...

At $500 per night for 6 days we shared our room with thousands of ants everywhere - tub, shower, floor, in folded towels, all over the kitchen, in our bedroom - coming in from the windows. We reported it to front desk and were told it must be our fault and they could do nothing because they were booked full. The room had not been cleaned well and upon arrival we found crumbs, trash, food wrappers in the bedroom, mold in the shower, dirty tub, dirty floors, etc. When reported to the front desk they complained that it takes at least 2 hours to clean a room, but someone would be by to clean it. No one showed for 2 days and we ended up cleaning the rooms ourselves - however, no one from housekeeping showed for the 6 days we were there.
We had no wi-fi service which we reported to the front desk for 3 straight days with no response - on the 3rd day we were told it must be our fault (different front desk clerk) and we were given the number to their internet company and told to take care of it ourself. It took a full day (4th day) working with the hotel's internet company (wasted vacation day) - it turned out to be faulty/broken equipment (not our fault). It prohibited us from talking to our son, stationed in Iraq, during Christmas holiday.
We paid extra for beachfront/ocean view, but for 3-1/2 days a very large tent blocked our view of the beach and ocean view (a 4-hour wedding, but 3-1/2 days of staring at a large white tent).
We have 2 different cell phone carriers, but found cell phone service to be non-existent on the property.
Besides being dirty, rooms are old and very out-dated. Window screens ripped from their frame which allowed bugs inside, old windows that would not completely shut allowing ants inside, old damaged window blinds that kept falling to the floor, doors that wouldn't shut, ceiling fans didn't work. Property should be maintained regularly and guests should not be expected to fix all problems.
Amenities and breakfast very limited compared to neighboring hotels. Overpriced compared to other hotels in area.
We requested only one wake-up call (on check-out day) for 7:30am - we received wake-up calls at 2:30am, 3:30am, 4:30am, 9:30am, and 10:30am, but none for our requested 7:30am. Once again we informed the front desk in case there was a problem with their wake-up call service, and once again, by a fifth front desk clerk, were told it wasn't their fault, nor their problem, but must have been someone calling a wrong number. It was the only day we requested wake-up call and the only day we received phone calls during our entire stay.
Not one friendly staff member and all front desk personnel were rude - even upon check-in - there was no greeting, but we were told repeatedly to not lose a room key or we would be charged $25 per key. Upon our experience, anything reported to the front desk resulted in it being at the fault of the guest and they could not and would not do anything to rectify any problem. Very poor customer service and, immediately upon check-in we were treated like an inconvenience. As we dealt with 7 different front desk clerks, the commonly shared response was that it was not their fault nor problem.

We arrived on Christmas day and thought the rooms and screened in porch were nice. However, our porch had a strong smoke smell. The staff was fairly decent at getting rid of the smell. On the other hand, our phone was broken for 2 days, and we did not get maid service every day. When I inquired about not getting maid service, I was told that we would only get it every other day. However, no one had told me this in advance. The pools were decent, the tiki bar was nice, and the breakfast was pretty good. I just think they should tell you in advance, on their website, if every day maid service is not part of the package.

Room Tip: It is nice to be close to the front desk for breakfast and checking out equipment. That is also whe...

We stayed at the Islander Resort in Islamorada this Christmas. When we first arrived, our impression was that the units seemed a little dreary and we had expected more of a sandy beach. Our rooms were clean and comfortable with a nice little kitchen area that was very convenient. The screened porch and seating was also very nice. Once we toured the area and realized that there are not many sandy beaches in this area and saw some of the other hotels, we grew to appreciate the Islander a little more. Our lunch by the pool the first day was great (tiki salad with blackened mahi mahi and conch fritters were excellent). Our Christmas dinner was pretty disappointing. We were seated in the area by the bar and we were rushed through our meal. Our server meant well but went a little overboard with the "no substitution" rule when we asked for a different type of roll rather than a croissant for the shrimp salad sandwich. The menu choices were a set 3-course meal or limited selection from the menu and they pressed us to order everything including dessert as soon as we sat down. The fixed price and elevated gratuity charge for the holiday meal led us to believe we would have a relaxing dining experience for the holiday but it turned out to be "X-mas dinner in 45 mins or less". Overall, we enjoyed our stay with some of the amenities and service favorable and others slightly less favorable.

I am very sorry to hear that you felt like your Christmas dinner service was rushed, and that a no substitution rule was too strictly enforced. That is not how we treat our guests. I will speak to my Food & Beverage Director about this to ensure that it never happens again. Please accept our apologies and please let us buy you dinner the next time you visit Islamorada.

We stayed at this resort over Thanksgiving. From the outside it does look quite dated, as do most things in the keys. The front desk was very friendly and helpful, checkin was smooth and easy.

The room was nice. It had an updated bathroom although waterpressure in the shower was nonexistant. The kitchenette was a great feature and the full sized fridge was great. It was also nice that they had plates and silverware for use as well. We had a king that was very comfortable. The screened in porch was a great feature as well. Overall we were very happy with the room.

The pool are was nice, although it did get crowded as it got late morning and seating was hard to come by. Other reviews had commented on the lack of shade, I thought it wouldn't be a problem but Florida sun in November is still hot. We liked that they had two pools and a hot tub. Pool service was very friendly and efficient.

The bar/restaurant was good. Food was large portions and tasted good but overpriced.

The "beach" was just ok. Its more hard packed sand on concrete and rocks. There were enough chairs at the beach and was quite relaxing to sit ocean side. Fishing off the pier was fun although only grunts were biting.

Overall I would say this "resort" is a little overpriced for the quality of what you get. It is a step up from the B+B's in this area of the keys. We would probably try another resort if we returned to the area but I would not say we had a bad experience.
