The reviews are correct about the loud air conditioner, and the beds are on the small side of full/double, for a growing family of 4, but we loved our stay here. The common areas are filled with iguanas and cool little creatures, and are nicely shaded after a long day of sun, you can grill or order from restaurant or cook in the little in room kitchenette, which was very convenient. There's a few great restaurants within a couple miles that we enjoyed, "bass pro restaurant and Lorelei across the street. The two pools were warm but refreshing. The ocean front is really a large area, plenty of room for a soccer game. It was a 5min drive to Theater of the sea and 30min to Dolphin research center. I definitely would like to return to this place

Room Tip: The rooms near the pool are a little on the loud side.

This hotel was OK but not as good as we expected. We took a room type 'ocean view' in order to have a nice view of the ocean. The view was quite OK. The room itself is quite large with a correct kitchen area. However, the airconditioning was extremely loud. Even when putting it off, we had on the terrace a lot of noice and heat of another airconditioning.
The breakfast area and the food was correct and also the swimming pool area.

We've stayed at the Islander 4 times and always have a great stay! Staff is super friendly and helpful and the view from the oceanfront rooms are amazing. There's plenty to do for all ages: swimming in their 2 pools, walking along the ocean, relaxing in the beach chairs (provided), fishing on the dock (requires no license and you can rent a pole), renting a boat at the watersports rental in front of the resort etc.. Theatre of the Sea is just up the road and a must see as well. We always have an amazing time and have caught Barracuda & small sharks right off the dock on each visit. A cold continental breakfast is included in your stay. We always go grocery shopping and the kitchen is large enough to prepare some of your own lunch and dinner meals. There's a poolside bar/restaurant that has a nice selection as well. We'll be returning again next year!

This was our 3rd stay here. Rooms are clean & comfortable, with a full, albeit small, kitchen. There is a nice, screened in veranda. Picnic tables & grills outside, so if you want to cook a few meals to save some money, you can. Nice, but pricey, restaurant on the property; the food was very good. A continental breakfast used to be included, but now you have to pay. However, now there is a full breakfast option for a bit more money, but we found that this held us over until dinner. Pools are nice, food & drink service was very good while we lounged in the sun. Fishing from the pier was fun; saw many tropical fish, a shark, a large ray and a manatee! We also rented a boat from the resort. Staff was very helpful regarding where to go, what to do. We had a fantastic day on the water! We love this place!

This was a nice spot to stay on our way back to Miami from Key West.

We had a room with two beds that worked fine for my wife and I and our two teenage kids. It had ceramic tiled floors - no doubt easier to get the sand out, and a kitchenette with refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher. We were in one of the one hundred series buildings at the southwest edge of the property.

The screened in porches are also a nice feature and open directly out onto the "corally coarse sand" surface around the entire resort.

There are two pools more-or-less centrally located (one was salt water and one a regular pool) but both with panoramic views to the ocean.

There was really no beach to speak of as most of the ocean frontage had a rock seawall.

We did get very good recommendations for dinner and breakfast from the guy at the front desk (Lazy Days for dinner and Mangrove Mikes for breakfast).

They also had laundry facilities on site and coffee by the front desk.

Unfortunately it rained most of the day we were there so we did not get to try any other activities they had available.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem to be in 6 unit buildings angled toward the ocean even though some are set back quite a distance to the water. They all looked about the same from the outside.

Hi Raybyerly -
I'm sorry it rained during your stay but it sounds like you made good use of the kitchen and screened in lanai. We'll be busy all summer finishing up the property improvements with the Guy Harvey Outpost brand and hope you'll be back to check out the upgrades - Louisiana isn't too far so ya'll come back. Thank you, Karen
