“Beautiful Resort and people”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

We have just returned from 6 chilled out days at the Islander Resort. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, and have no complaints about the resort.
Our only disappointment was that the rooms are quite dated, and need a little TLC. However, we do know that slowly the resort is being renovated, and this is being addressed. On the plus side, the rooms are very spacious, fantastically spaced throughout the resort, and have good facilities within the rooms.
Thoroughly recommend the breakfast, food plentiful and varied, staff wonderful, especially Debbie who was very attentive.
Staff on the reception are also lovely and very helpful, Thank you to Charlotte, Ellen and Charles, and a big thank you to Tammy who gave us lots of suggestions for restaurants etc.
Pools area is vast, never a problem with sunbeds, pools heated, and if you are lucky, you will have Danielle serving you throughout the day.
Wifi is available throughout and parking plentiful outside your room.
The resort has bbq's and picnic tables dotted around, and each room has 2 (brand new) sunbeds positioned outside.
Plenty to do at the water sports kiosk, although we didn't get to utilise this.
Finally, the gym is small, but sufficient for a quick workout.
We would definitely recommend this resort, and look forward to returning soon.

Hi Jill - Thank you so much for your review. The staff was very appreciative that you were thoughtful enough to mention them by name. Yes, you are correct, we are doing some renovations as part of our affiliation with Guy Harvey Outpost. Hopefully, you will back to see all the improvements. Thanks again, Karen

With the exception of the breakfast team at the Bonefish Grill, I'd recommend the rest of the staff at this hotel get retrained in hotel management and service. Front desk staff is truly lacking and somewhat rude, just like many of the other reviews state. Housekeeping is a joke. Outside of that, the resort is in a fantastic location and has a great beach and pool. If you are particular about service, try another hotel.

Hello Scott - As happy as I was to hear how much you enjoyed the location, the breakfast, the beach and the pool, I was very upset to learn about your disappointing experience with the housekeeping and front desk staff. There's no excuse for rudeness. We'd love to get some additional information from you so we can follow up. If possible, could you please email or call our General Manager, Robin ? Spent spring break here with husband and 11 year old. Very simple, close to restaurants, Theatre of the Sea, Robbies. Pools were very clean and not crowded. Outside bar at pool area was nice, good burgers, good service. Breakfast buffet was good, nothing fancy. Took a drive to Key west, about 1 1/2 hours away. We liked staying at the Islander, it was kid friendly and family oriented. We are going to try to stay here again next year.

What a beautiful place this is. The accomodations are simple but very convenient. Well maintained and clean. What makes this place special is the beach like setting. It's really spacious and more than enough beds at both the beach and (clean) pool. Pier is very nice. Would stay here again and were sorry to leave already after two nights.

Room Tip: Restaurant Lorelei across the street is very nice with tables on the beach

My husband and I and our two kids have frequented the Islander for 10 years, my kids have great memories here. Our recent stay was not what we have experienced in the past. We stayed over Easter break weekend. We checked in late after 11pm, the night desk attendant was the rudest gentleman I have ever met at a hotel check in. He should not work this type of service, it was on Thursday evening April 17, 2014. Our room was fairly warm and became worse, no one could fall asleep and we had to call for service at 130, the clerk told me nothing could be done until the am, it was awful. Obviously no one checked the room and they had plenty of time since we were such a late check in. It was an unbearable night. Someone did come by in the am and had it going again but now we're were freezing, he said this was how it had to run. There is no no longer the complimentary breakfast, they opened a breakfast restaurant in the back which is nice but not worth the money, who eats southwest eggs in the Keys it's not Texas! This was always a nice feature of this hotel, which is now very disappointing. ( Burger King is much better and a third of the price right next door) the on site restaurant served my chicken caesar and the chicken was not fully cooked, I lost my appetite and now the kids won't eat there anymore. All of the things we enjoyed have lost its luster. It is a very convenient cottage style resort with a nice pool and pier. Honestly we will be staying at either the Postcard Inn or Cheeca Lodge in the future. Postcard is renovated and has more restaurant options than the Islander and when we feel like staying a bit nicer we will head to Cheeca it's a bit more costly but well worth it, Islander is going to do a mild facelift but new bedding and lights won't do it, they need a real overhaul to compete and get back to customer service.....,maybe this new Guy Harvey label is part of it... I am sure it costs the owner a lot to use that name and he needs to recoup his money.....I understand business but service has always been the key to the reason we stayed here it was always consistent, it's too bad.

We will always have the memories but plan on making new ones....we have stayed at many resorts and hotels in Islamorada, we visit 4 times a year.....trust me this one is going down...the final straw was our a/c broke again on our last night and after freezing and sweating we were done, not the most relaxing time. The desk clerk at checkout was almost insensitive to my comments, I never even told her about the uncooked chicken just our a/c , just really disappointed.

I hope they read my review, and rethink staffing, services and the quality of what they used to have. I have never written a review before but feel so passionate about this place since we have spent so many years here, I hope my honesty can make a difference.

Room Tip: Pool or ocean views a must the rest are not hood

The reviews are correct about the loud air conditioner, and the beds are on the small side of full/double, for a growing family of 4, but we loved our stay here. The common areas are filled with iguanas and cool little creatures, and are nicely shaded after a long day of sun, you can grill or order from restaurant or cook in the little in room kitchenette, which was very convenient. There's a few great restaurants within a couple miles that we enjoyed, "bass pro restaurant and Lorelei across the street. The two pools were warm but refreshing. The ocean front is really a large area, plenty of room for a soccer game. It was a 5min drive to Theater of the sea and 30min to Dolphin research center. I definitely would like to return to this place

Room Tip: The rooms near the pool are a little on the loud side.

This hotel was OK but not as good as we expected. We took a room type 'ocean view' in order to have a nice view of the ocean. The view was quite OK. The room itself is quite large with a correct kitchen area. However, the airconditioning was extremely loud. Even when putting it off, we had on the terrace a lot of noice and heat of another airconditioning.
The breakfast area and the food was correct and also the swimming pool area.
