“Laid back and relaxing.”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in July. Our room was nice, and had a small kitchen. Our room had a patio, and was just a few steps from the beach. The beach is kind of a pier with sand over it; not really a beach, but still a nice place to sit and look at the ocean. Good restaurants are close as is a 24 hour grocery store. The pool is small, but the pool bar was a lot of fun.

This is the perfect spot for relaxation and a great view. We had a studio and it was perfect. We cooked twice at our place and are out the rest. Chris is great at the pool bar and the morning sunsets are unbelievable!!!!! There are a few "dives" in the area and this is a hidden gem!

My family stayed here for 3 nights. We needed a base in the area to visit some of the local excursions. The resort occupies a slither of land between the highway and the sea. Internally our room was perfect for our family, three lovely bedrooms and kitchen/lounge area. Beds were super comfortable and decor good. The only problem with the room is it's location - at the entrance to the resort and hence suffers from road noise. The resort gardens are lovely and well maintained, lots of nice palms, white sand everywhere and well trimmed bushes, a real pleasure. Down by the sea in the dock area the views are mostly good. In August the main problem on the beach is the seaweed thats washed up on the shoreline - it's rotting and giving off sulpher (rotten eggs smell) which, for me, meant it was not possible to laze on the beach there due to this. The pool was the biggest disappointment to the whole resort. It's tiny. Once 2 small children are in it it's full and aesthetically the fencing around it makes it look unappealing.
Staff are friendly and helpful.
In summary the resort is not a 'destination' in my view. I would not come here and stay all day but as a base to explore the area it's good. Now I've been I would say its a little too expensive for the facilities it offers - demanding top dollar without top dollar amenities.

Room Tip: Rooms near the resort office will hear road noise.

Truly idyllic resort.

We stayed in one of the apartments which has a lovely view of the ocean.

Inside the room was very comfortable and clean and has everything you need .

The grounds were kept immaculate and the pool are was lovely and peaceful .

Staff were very helpful and spent time with you giving good local information.

If I manage another holiday in Islamorada then I will certainly stay here again.

We had a wonderful time.

Pines and Palms is truly a terrific "Old Keys" vacation. It's not a slick 20 story hotel, but a scattering of rustic cabins in a neatly maintained grounds. If you're looking for a big hotel with a lot of amenities, this isn't for you, but if you're looking for an old Keys experience in a quaint, quiet, locale, this definitely is for you. There are two docks on which there are comfy chairs to take a drink and watch the water and the boats go by. If you bring a boat, even the dockage is free. There is no beach on the property waterfront, and the pool is a bit basic, but that doesn't detract from the restful ambience of the place. There are a lot of restaurants in close proximity at varying prices, and there is a service road to get to most of them, so you don't need to get on busy Rt.1. The cabins themselves are clean, comfortable, and have everything you need to cook if you want to. All in all, a great experience, I'd do it again anytime.

Room Tip: Bring coffee filters if you intend to use the cabin coffee makers, there are none supplied.

This is a lovely old Florida style resort. We stayed in a small cottage that had a slight view of the ocean. The staff was very nice and helpful.First time venturing off to a different place while in Islamorada but glad we did. Can't wait to go back next year!

Super friendly staff! This is the quintessential Florida Keys getaway. If you've never stayed in the Keys, you may be a little dismayed at the "charm" of the accommodations. Perfect location a little hidden away from the highway, but very close to Bud and Marys. This is the second year we have stayed here, and will be back next year!
