“Clean, relaxing and friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 April 2007

My husband, 12 year old son and I stayed at Pines and Palms for 5 nights, Mar. 22-27, 2007. Since our 9:30 am flight was canceled, we were not even sure if we were going to be able to get down there. We called and told Ana (the manager) what was going on and she could not have been nicer. She assured us that we would have our room no matter what time it was. A few hours later Bonnie called to see how we were doing, again assuring us not to worry. When we finally got on a plane at 6:00 pm, I called Bonnie and told her we were on our way. We finally arrived there at around 12:30 am. We were exhausted from such a long day. The office was closed, but an envelope was at the door with our name on it. When we got to our room, the lights were on, the beds turned down, music playing from the radio and a sign saying "Welcome, we're so glad you made it!"

Pine and Palms gives you a true, authentic Florida Keys experience. There are not many places like it anymore. It is quiet and laid back, comfortable like home and very neat and clean. We were in cottage # 7 right on the ocean near the pool. We never needed to turn the a/c on. There was always a lovely breeze, so we had the windows open and the ceiling fan overhead. You're at the ocean.......enjoy that clean salt air! You can request a grill from the office and they'll bring a nice Weber. We cooked steaks (that we bought at Winn-Dixie) one night and had a delicious dinner outdoors on our patio. We enjoyed the company of some very nice people that were staying in other cottages. The pool is heated and the pool area is very neat. I don't think there were any vacancies but you never felt crowded. The beach area was raked and picked up every morning.

The people that work there could not be more pleasant. If you needed anything Ana, Steph or Bonnie would try to help you or give you suggestions. I disagree with a previous reviewer that said it is not for active families. Perhaps they were looking for a hotel that directed all their activities. To us it was great to unwind and let the stress fall away. There are many choices of things to do in and around Islamorada. After a busy day, we were so happy to come back to our little cottage and listen to the wind blow through the pines, relax with a book on an adirondack chair at the end of the pier or try to catch small crabs hidden in the rocks (my son).

Okay, it is not the Ritz. It's not the Hampton or the Hilton. But all those places are homogenous, they could be anywhere. Pines and Palms is special and cozy and a home away from home. I hope we will have a chance to go back there.

Spent five nights in units 4 and 5 which work well as a little duplex with a door that joins the two units. Nice pleasant setting but as more hotels and resorts improve their beds and bedding - it makes older, hard beds less tolerable. The window air conditioners are also unfortunately as loud as any I've heard and in unit 4, the refrigerator is in the same room as the bed adding to the noise level.

Well located on Islamorada - close to the good restaurants that are within a mile where you can watch the sunsets (Lorelei and Morada Bay - both great)

A nice setting, quaint, well kept - but for the price, improvements are in order. Poor beds and noisy rooms eliminates the appeal. A few simple extras would also be nice - ice, internet etc..

Over-rated by trip advisor - I wouldn't stay there again.

Great place to stay if you're not looking for loads of things to do. we spent 6 nights in cottage no 6 which has a good location and view of the sea/pool.

it's not a cheap place to stay but you pay for the lack of amentities and rooms. other similar sized lplots of land had large condos/resorts with loads to do and loads of peopla to do them. just depends what you want. plenty to see and do locally and lots of excellent places to eat but you need to follow the advice on the sheet you're given when you check in.

good location for travelling around the keys with key west only a couple of hours leisurely drive and miami airport 90 mins (depending on traffic).

would recommend the dolphin research centre which is well worth a visit and very educational. well worth doing one of the activities too.

all in all had a great time and would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing, quiet place to stay.

We have stayed at the P & P twice in the last two years for a two week period. I can't say enough about the management and staff as their efforts to accommodate the guests are exceptional. The central location in the sports fishing capital of the world, a variety of good restaurants and quaint gift shops is a real bonus and the heated pool is to die for ! We plan on returning for a 3rd year next winter.

If you need loud music, annoying pets, screaming infants, boorish employees, obnoxious guests, constant noise and motion, a party-like atmosphere, and any other manner of over-the-top behavior/activity, this is not the place for you. If you value serenity, calm, friendly and respectful guests, a staff that is attentive and anxious to please, yet subtle, and a private & pristine setting that allows you to exist and relax without distraction or intrusion, then you need to stay here.

The perfect destination for young or older couple. The Caribbean style, the staff and the location are almost perfect. We stayed in one of their Suite with kitchen, living area and independent room. The area is very clean, and you feel like in the Bahamas. For sure, I will recommend this hotel to all of my friends! If you plan a trip in the keys, consider this hotel as a very good choice.

Here is a great place to stay that harkens to the "old style keys". We stayed here over the holidays and decided to "splurge" on an oceanside cottage, which was great. Room on the second floor have views of the water anyway, so if you don't get oceanside, ask for the second floor rooms.

There is no real beach, but that is how it is in the keys. There are two nice long docks with adirondack chairs for lounging and watching the boats go by. A small pool is great for kids - its not a pool at the Four Seasons, though - so not for adults looking for relaxation and a pina colada pool-side.

It's quiet and clean (disagree with the other comments about the maid service), and we slept with our windows open for those wonderful breezes...that's how quiet it was at night. There is a kitchenette (I believe ours was cottage #11) with new appliances.

Brand new fluffy white towels, attention to decor details and complimentary toiletries give this "motel" a cut above the others on Islamorada (our friends stayed at the Coconut Cove - yikes!).

If you have a boat, be warned that the water is VERY shallow at low tide, so check with them before you plan your stay.

There is a little quaint coffee cafe just down the road (forgot the name of it), which is so convenient for a walk in the morning.

No room service. There is a vending machine for sodas, but that's it.

  • Liked — The laid-back atmosphere and quiet evenings
  • Disliked — A lot of young children at the pool, which wasn't very inviting (with wire fence).
  • Tips/Secrets — Go for an oceanside room if you really want to feel like you're "alone" at the edge of the atlantic
