We stayed for 3 nights at Drop Anchor. The facility definitely has the feel of the keys and the decor and colorful buildings make it very inviting. We stayed in room 5, which has the perfect view of the grounds, and the beautiful waters of the Atlantic. The sunrises were beyond explanation. The room was very clean as were the grounds. This is not the "Marriott type resort", but exactly what we were looking for. The owner was very nice and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would suggest this location to anyone making a visit. a previous review had mentioned the WiFi. We found very good signal at all times. Definitely eat at the Island Grill which we found to have some of the best food and service around. Our Drop Anchor stay was the perfect ending to our honeymoon stay in the keys!

Room Tip: Room 5 has the PERFECT view!

My partner and I needed one night in the Florida Keys and I took a chance with this perfectly Key Central location despite a few negative comments about the place. I always read the reviews carefully to determine if the writers are really just complaining, or may be hoping for a 5 star hotel. This is a perfect little island retreat for what I consider to be a reasonable price. The rooms are squeaky clean with lovely linens and bedding. The grounds on the water are like an island oasis with tiki huts, picnic benches, adirondack chairs, tables, outdoor grills and hammocks. The buildings are island colorful, and prettily lit up at night. We stayed in Room 7 with a balcony right over the back area with view of the lovely swimming pool and the ocean. As mentioned in a prior review, the bathtub in our room in our room could use a re-caulking , but again, it was sparkling clean, great water pressure, lovely towels in artistic decorative display ( I always love that touch) along with a gift of scrubbing salts. The little kitchen has all the amenities ; full size refrigerator, dishes, pots and pans, even a blender! So unless you are looking for a five star hotel or to be waited on hand and foot, this is a perfect, affordable place to stay even for a week or more. Our experience for our one night and two half days was just magical. . This is a peaceful, quiet, sweet, clean, comfortable little resort. We loved it

Inexpensive and clean! This place has everything going for it. Nice pool, hammocks, lounge chairs and picnic tables make the grounds very inviting. I liked the freshly painted color scheme of the buildings. Very tropical! We had the smallest room but it was plenty big for two. It had a small refrigerator, TV, nice windows and brand new tile floors! Very comfy bed. Conveniently located across the highway from Windley State Park and walking distance to a couple of restaurant/bars.

This place was recommended by our friends that have stayed in lots of different places in the Keys and we are glad we took their advise! All was perfect; clean and room serviced daily, comfy, good location, nice staff and lastly,, good value for money if you compare to similar place around. The best thing at this place is definitely the man made 'beach' at the back and around the pool area with all the hammocks where you can relax and enjoy the view. Thanks to Niki at front desk, she's awesome woman and so helpful. The owner is also very nice and puts all his heart in this place to make sure you have a great stay. If you want the Marriott, go for it !! but if you looking for an authentic charming place with the 'Keys' feeling and touch, Drop Anchor is your place. We will be back without question when in the Keys.

We stayed two nights at the Drop Anchor as a part of a 25th anniversary trip to the Florida Keys. We were not disappointed.

The facility, as many have stated, is definitely "Old Florida," but has many updates that we found to be welcome. We stayed in Room 8 which we found to be very comfortable. The view from the balcony in the morning over the Atlantic was inspiring, although it is slightly obstructed by palms (not a surprise since the hotel openly offers virtual tours of each room online).

All appliances were in working order. Beds were very comfortable. Furniture was of an above-average quality. The room was very clean. There was a minor issue with a few small ants in the bathtub during our stay (this was actually called to our attention when we checked in), but management was attentive to it and treated daily. To be fair, this is south Florida--bugs are pretty much a given.

The man-made beach is relaxing, and we enjoyed sitting out each evening (and early in the morning) watching the boats on the Atlantic. We did not use the pool but did dip our toes in, and the temperature of the water did not seem to be out of line with what one would expect in this climate. This would also be a great place to stay for a fishing trip, and there were several guests that were there for that reason during our stay.

The location is convenient to many of the restaurants and things to do in Islamorada. A great restaurant for breakfast and lunch, Island Grill, is located within easy walking distance just up old US 1 beside the drawbridge to Plantation Key.

We very much fell in love with the Keys during this trip, and look forward to returning in the very near future. When we do, we will be sure to include the Drop Anchor as a part of our itinerary.

Room Tip: Room 8 is an outstanding room for couples. Room 7 appears to offer a closer view of the ocean.

I want to say that this place is lovely in many ways. Great man made beach, which we could walk straight onto from room 2. Nice bedroom and kitchen/lounge area, with great views. Hammocks and beach furniture were wonderful. But.......
We never found more than the merest hint of wifi any time. It was hopeless and really is pretty cheap to fix in this day and age, so not impressed. The fridge never cooled much if any below room temperature. The shower had variable flow and temperature, which would be fine if the control wasn't with fellow guests in other rooms! The fan in the bedroom never worked and the icing on the cake was when we pointed this out on leaving and were told 'Yeah, we know about that - we've got a fan but the room always has guests so we can't find time to replace'. Nice. Finally, the pool was not the claimed 82 degrees. We have had a pool for years and my wife ticks me off if it is 84 and not 85, never mind somewhere in the high 70's! New thermometer anyone?

Thank you so much for your review. I am glad that overall you enjoyed your stay! The view and the beach accessibility are wonderful! I apologize that you had trouble with the WI-FI and the fridge not cooling. During your stay, you informed us of a problem with the WI-FI and we called our WI-FI provider about the reception problem. The technician, during the troubleshooting time, found that some devices worked perfectly while others did not work at all. I am happy to report that we now have 3 antennas to “boost” reception so this should not be an issue in the future. The issue with the fridge not cooling was rectified as soon as the repairman could get us on his schedule. We would have happily moved you to another unit had one been available. Also, upon your departure, the fan in the bedroom was replaced. I am sorry that you were unable to utilize this during your stay. As for the pool, I apologize that the temperature is cooler than you are used to or that you expected. It is a heated pool and it is kept at 82 degrees. The maintenance department did do a secondary check with a different thermometer and the heating system is maintaining the 82 degree temperature. Again, I thank you for your review and I hope that should your travels bring you back to Islamorada that you will stay with us again.
