“No Tiki Bar”
Reviewed 29 March 2014

I stayed here a few days ago and noticed a lovely piece of property full of palm trees, ocean view amd my room was VERY nice! Comfortable bed, large bathroom that looked like it was recently remodeled. And I have to say that the housekeeping folks do a great job! VERY clean! The only disappointment I had with my stay was the tiki bar. They mention the tiki bar on their web site and they have a huge sign along the highway in front of the motel that says "Tiki Bar" . They DO have a nice tiki bar in the middle of the property. Thatched roof, round bar with chairs, etc. But, nothing is served. No bartender, no beer, no booze. I asked if it was opening later in the evening and was told that it is a BYOB tiki bar! So, I could bring a six pack and sit there and drink by myself, or walk across the street and spend my money at the Ocean View bar. (Which I did)

We had the pleasure of staying at Coconut Cove for 6 nights in one of their cottages and thoroughly enjoyed it! The efficiency cottages have everything you need and outside is a beautiful, quaint resort on the ocean complete with pool and tiki bar. From our first dealing with Patty in the office and every time after she was so friendly and very helpful. She helps set the tone for this resort. You won't be sorry if you stay here in Islamorada. Lots of restaurants within walking distance as well. The rates for this resort are also very reasonable! It's also pet friendly and has a pier you can fish from and even a BBQ to cook your catch. We will be back!

From the second we saw the dilapidated hotel sign (peeling paint, faded) to the metal duck cages for domestic ducks they are presumably raising for food right next to the parking area as you drive in, we knew we were in trouble. We found the front desk which actually is a former bar that had been converted into a check-in station, but really looked like a hoarder was using it. The woman who appeared to run the place checked us in and sent us across the property to where we would be staying. It was odd and looked like townhouses, not a resort. We lugged our bags up the steep stairs (three stories, no elevator) into this place that was full of negative space with high ceilings and old, icky furniture. Our room, part of this weird townhouse complex, was far back from the water and had a view of the owners' gross backyard. We figured out they live in half the complex and we could look down into their "half" from the balcony window into their gross, trampled living space. GROSSSSSSS. There was a smashed glass on the balcony and broken plastic patio furniture. The hotel room had old mis-matched furniture, icky old bedspreads and a tiny full-sized bed despite the manager insisting it was a queen. It was NOT a queen. We decided to put our suits on and relax in the pool to get over our disappointment. The pool was really cool, had a large waterfall and you walk into it like a beach. Too bad it was FREEZING, unheated, with no hot tub, and to make it worse, there was bird crap ALL OVER THE POOL DECK and chairs. We'd had enough, asked for our money back but she said she would not refund our room. So she switched us to a larger, older room above the bar. It was better in that it had more space, newer bedspreads, but equally old furniture and the couch was full of stains and rips. We were SO DISGUSTED! There wasn't even a coffee maker in the kitchenette, but there were lots of signs threatening to charge you if you break the rules. We literally could not wait to get out of there, woke up at 5:30 am, and were out of there by 7am. It was SO DISAPPOINTING.

Now, I realized the main reason we were so disappointing is the false advertising they have going on. We are happy with "divey" hotels, love to stay in them, but this is not what we were expecting. And we paid top dollar to stay in a resort. They are not a resort, and they don't even come close to being a marina. if the Coconut Cove would stop lying to people about what they are offering, it might be a easier pill to swallow. Is it a resort and marina, with docks, a restaurant and a bar? Oh heck no. Is it a run-down former resort that probably used to be really nice? Yes. There was even what used to be a fishing pond, which is now just an algae pit with a "no fishing" sign posted next to it. I am absolutely mystified by the positive reviews on this site for this hotel. It was groooooossssssss, please don't be fooled by the pictures and the description. I would NOT recommend to anyone unless the rooms are no more than $75 night (that would be generous) and you don't expect resort-like conditions.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for the time in reviewing our resort. We are disappointed we were unable to meet your expectations upon your arrival for your 1 night stay; I was informed upon your check out by our front desk manager our hotel try its best to accommodate your unreasonable requests, and there was nothing we could do to make it up to you..... Unfortunately you did not mention on your review that your plans have changed to include your pet. The room that originally was booked was not pet friendly; therefore we have to accommodate you in one of our selected pet friendly cabins once we saw your unregistered dog running around. We are a very private estate resort with much wildlife including iguanas, ospreys, pelicans, miniature call ducks, and love our great dog owners and exclusive clientele. We always welcome pet owners who do not infringe on other guests enjoyment of our picturesque tropical island setting. We pride ourselves on providing an excellent experience and customer service to our guests but we understand we are not the perfect fit for everyone. We hope you enjoyed your stay on Islamorada and hope you would return in the future to our beautiful Island.

We planned a last minute weekend getaway at the coconut cove resort and were so pleased! Patty is so sweet and accommodating and took us all around the property when we checked in which made us feel right at home. We spent the day on their private beach, and I'm sure if we had chosen the pool we would have been just as happy. The resort provides hot coffee and sweet snacks in the morning, nice lounge chairs on the beach, beach towels and a BYOB tiki bar. We had a great time and will definitely be back!

We chose this motel based on price and ratings. #1 most important-our room was clean. The bldg. we were in is fairly new, but the furniture is old and mismatched, and the mattresses sagged in the middle badly. I never use bathtubs in motels, but I couldn't resist the jet tub which appeared to be very clean. It was nice! We enjoyed the balcony from which you could see the water. They call themselves a B&B, but breakfast is a pre-packaged small danish and coffee served in the very dirty lobby, if you can find it open. We had to wait until 9 am. A coffee maker in the room would have been a great improvement. It's a good place for overnight, quiet and relaxing, but I wouldn't want to stay for long. They do have a nice pool and a dock on the water from which you can fish. They were fairly accomodating, and it appeared to be very child-friendly. Kids would love it there. The area seemed very safe and nice restaurants are near.

Room Tip: Ask for room overlooking water.

This place is famous for having weddings, so most people avoid it. Go when they are not having one and the place is all yours. We stayed there this summer and it was us and one other couple. They pool is great, its ocean front. No food, and the bar was closed, but you make do. Its well worth it. I love this place.

Room Tip: Mkae sure to ask if they are having a wedding

We got married here on 29.10.13 and had an amazing time. We found the website when searching for beautiful places to have our destination wedding, coming all the way from London UK it was a daunting experience!
Though we were very nervous at first as we had never seen the area or spoken to Paul, Magda or Patty we were soon to find that this was going to be a pleasure and not daunting or scary at all. I emailed in for a quote giving frankly very brief details about numbers of guests and time of year and got back the wedding planning guide and timeframes. Everything was so detailed and you could go through and pick and choose elements that you wanted to make it special and individual to you and your groom/bride.
Paul and Magda corresponded with me through email almost exclusively due to the difficulties with time difference and this was no problem and every little query/concern was answered quickly and with extra added help.
They helped me to plan the perfect hassle free wedding, also they helped e to arrange a fishing trip for my groom and friends for the day before the wedding, and my spa appointments for hair/make up etc at Ciao Bella day spa which was simply amazing.
Even after planning every detail I wasn't expecting the amazing scene that greeted us upon arrival. The resort was beautiful and just what i had hoped for, for a destination beach wedding. We arrived a few days before and us and our party of 20 - including lots of little kiddies - were staying at the resort. The Pool and Tiki hut - which we had full use of - were clean and lovely, very big and the pool had both shallow and deep areas for all the children, and adults needs.
We had a lovely relaxing few days before the wedding and i was so pleased to finally meet Paul, Magda and Patty who were such genuinely lovely people i was overwhelmed. Magda helped me so much with all the finer details and her eye for detail and precision with flowers, tables and designs was second to none, I almost felt like my sister was helping me to plan the day.
On the day of the wedding I was so happy to see it all coming together, there were hoards of people combing the sand, setting up everything bringing in potted palms, and table decorations it looked beautiful. The were setting up from around 8am and the wedding was at 5.30pm so you can see how much thought and effort goes in.
Paul really set us at ease at the rehearsal and was funny to boot! He had thought of some lovely words to say as we were both not happy to write our own - pressure!
The day itself went without a hitch and we so sad to leave the day after.
The flowers that Magda arranged were amazing, so bright and beautiful and nothing like what we could get in the UK.
Overall we were so impressed and would highly recommend Coconut Cove Resort and Marina for a destination wedding, or even just a relaxing and special break away. Our children loved the our time here and were made to feel special as well as us. All of our guests loved the resort and the wedding itself and we've had so many lovely comments on the pictures.
A special mention must be made for Patty who was such a lovely lady she helped us from start to finish and is a real asset to the fabulous team at Coconut Cove.
A last mention is the food and wedding cake, truly amazing food loved by all especially the lobster and the BBQ island pig!!
We loved it here and cant recommend it highly enough!!! Thank you so much were sure to be back xxx
