“A total disappointment”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2009

I booked this place by the "pet friendly"hotel site. The pictures on their website show georgeous wedding pictures and it would make a pretty backdrop for a wedding if you did not have to stay there. My husband and I were looking for a romantic 3 day getaway. We were so completely disappointed. The rooms are extremely expensive for the over $200 a night price. The "upgrade" she gave us was the room I am speaking of. Absolutely no services unless you are having as wedding. The owner could barely take the time to check us in and we never saw her againl The place truly needs lots of repair. Uncomfortable beds, small mirror in bathroom, no privacy on your "deck". Old furniture, no coffee maker in room and no one in the office even at 9 am. We only saw the owner once after our check in and even then she was selling another wedding and did not have even a minute for us. We have traveled the world and have been to the keys before and would never go back there and would never recommend the place to any of our friends. There is virtually no real beach, only one chair on the "dock", no atmosphere unless you are having a wedding ceremony. We made the best of our trip no thanks to our hotel.
There is a great restaurnat about 4 miles away that is a must, the Green Turtle, food fabulous, decor immpecable, staff extremely friendly.

No Good Deed goes unpunished!
Dear Guest,
It saddens us that you did not enjoy your stay at our beautiful resort and we do appreciate any constructive comments that could help us to improve our Resort. Unfortunately, I found your review contradictory to the facts.
We are one of the few places in town that allow pets mostly because of our love of animals that my family and I share with our guests, and recognize their importance as a loyal family member. At your arrival, I greeted you personally asking you how was your trip and I commented about your well behaved pet, SO-G. I proceeded to tell you about our resort and the many activities you could enjoy at our resort, including jet skies, wave runners, kite boarding, kayaks, boat rentals, diving, snorkeling fishing, sunset cruises and our world class gym with free weights, electric jogging tracks and more. I particularly remembered to mention the awesome feeding time in the morning and the free coffee and Danishes available at our front desk.
You had booked and paid originally for a tropical ground level cottage with a full kitchen and picnic table in front. I really wanted to make your trip to the keys as enjoyable as possible and decided to give you a free upgrade to the new part of our hotel, even though we don’t usually allow pets in those rooms. I thought that you would really enjoy the Jacuzzi bathtub, marble floors, brand new orthopedic mattress set that I had bought a few weeks prior for that specific room, and the fact that you were the only ones on that floor. (Due to the fact that you didn’t have to worry about your pet disturbing other guests). After seeing both rooms, you decided to go with the hotel room. You never came to me to express your disappointment or say anything to me every time I greeted you while passing by.
You are wrote on your review that you had been in the Keys before, but it seems that you didn’t notice in your prior trips that the Florida Keys do not have great swimming beaches like the rest of Florida. Our coral reef protects our coastline from pounding waves, which is what creates sandy beaches no to say there are no sandy beaches, just that most are on the small side, and often man made. Ours one of the nicest beaches in the area, with scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean and out jet to the world famous sand bars.
Contrary to your statements on your review, the room you were in doesn’t cost $200, we only have one room on the property that cost over $200 but no more than $250 that being the honeymoon room. Unfortunately, the cost of staying in the Florida Keys is high. The average room rate in the Keys is $250 per night. We are one of the best values in Islamorada for a Ocean front Resort from $75 in off season to $155- $175 in peak season for a room based on double occupancy. We frankly disagree with your statements about our resort not having services available. We had more guests during the same time you were here, and all of them came back to the office to let me know what a great time they had. There are also many great places within walking distance, including the Famous Tiki bar, Theater of The Sea, The geological Park, shops for great shopping and many fine restaurants with live entertainment.
We are proud of our resort and we are constantly improving and adding new amenities. We strive for 100% customer satisfaction and are very pleased with the vast majority of positive reviews we have received on this site. Unfortunately nobody can please all the people all the time.

immaculate rooms, manicured grounds, exceptional staff. our daughter's wedding was beautiful, everything we could have wanted! the owners made us feel like family and couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. in spite of very unusual cold weather, we had a great time. bar-be-que lunches, visiting in the lobby, hanging out by the pool, it was all wonderful and very relaxing. thanks to paul and magda for a terriffic time and amazing wedding. it was all that they promised!

our first trip as a couple was here we loved it so much we went back for a second time and then our third time we got married there. The owners of this establishment always made us feel welcome and made our stay enjoyable. When we decided to get married, they where so helpful in every way. I left everything in there hands it was such a stress free wedding. All i did was book the rooms for family and guest told them how i thought my special day should go, how i always dreamed my wedding to be. They took care of the rest they ordered a beautiful cake, took care of the flowers, even the wonderful lady who took the pictures was so nice. My album from the wedding was perfect and the video was breath taking. They really took such great care of us. All we did was drive down the keys and get married. Thank you for such a great memory.

We just had our wedding, February 6th at Coconut Cove and cannot rave enough about the resort. Paul & Magda the resort owners, and their staff could not do enough for us and our guests. We had the whole resort booked with our family and friends and no request was to big or small. We had unseasonable cold weather for our wedding week and thank goodness for the main house lobby. That became the meeting place, during our 45* days/ nights. We had our music set up and partied the colder days/ nights away. Our wedding day was magnificent. The resort was transformed and looked beautiful. The food was amazing, our guests were in awe with the selection and level of service. If you are looking for a laid back wedding, where you are as relaxed as your guests and are looking to thoroughly enjoy yourself this is the place. If you enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and vacationing in the Keys, or Montauk, NY this is the place to have your wedding and to vacation.

Our daughter had her Wedding at Coconut Cove last weekend. We had 39 guests stay on-site from Thursday thru Sunday! January 15th thru January 19th.

Prior to the Wedding, I was a little nervous reading the reviews from other guests at Coconut Cove.

The rooms aren't the Hilton, but the scenery and the hospitality made up for that. The rooms are old, but they are kept up. The rooms with the kitchens are fully equiped with everything you would need to cook with. I know some of the reviews stated there was no maid service, not true, our rooms were made up/cleaned everyday. It's a Mom & Pop Resort....it's absolutely enjoyable, relaxing and a very friendly/family place. We absolutely LOVED it.....

On Thursday evening, all 39 of us went to Chilli Willie's for dinner. It was excellent food, reasonable priced and the staff treated us like family.

On Friday, we chartered a fishing boat for some of the guests and they had a blast and caught a ton of fish.

Friday night was the Rehersal Dinner/Bonfire. We the parents put on a barbeque dinner for all our guests. Which turned out well.

Saturday was the Wedding. The whole Resort took on a new wonderful look! Paul and Manga (Owners) treated us like family. Lori (Manager) was just as nice and helpful.

The dinner was outstanding. We had black tie staff serve hors d'oeuvres prior to dinner and they were delicious as well. The bar staff and wait staff were very professional and very accomadating and very friendly too.

The cake was made at Bobs Buns along with chocolate brownies. The cake was key lime and it was delicious along with the brownies.

Manga designed the flowers, which were absolutely beautiful. She also did the photos. She arrived in the honeymoon suite at 3:30 p.m. and stayed with us to the end of the Wedding taking photos. She went up and above with the photo taking.

After dinner, we had the DJ. We danced for hours, while Manga was still taking photos. Then it was time for the Bride and Groom to have their first dance on the Beach. Once the music started and they started dancing, Paul was off in his boat shooting off fireworks. It was absolutely breath taking. All the guests were so surprised since most of them weren't aware of this going to done.

The bartenders were excellent. Everything was top shelf! The young crownd loved the barmaid. She was fun, upbeat and just loved her job! She made the night awesome as well.....

We also took our convertible car on the beach for photos. Anything we wanted to do, Paul and Mango let us do. I would recommend all guests stay on-site if you have your Wedding here. You have the whole Resort to yourself and guests. It's one big party!

The Pool area is absolutely beautiful. Although, when we were there it was the coldest it's ever been in the keys. The pool isn't heated, but I guess being in Florida Keys, most pools aren't.

I know I've read prior reviews about the rooms being dirty, ants and lots of cats. So NOT TRUE. Yes, the rooms are old, but their maintained and theres maid service everyday. Yes, there are two cats that roam the grounds, but they leave you alone. And as far as ants, there were no ants in the room we stayed in.

Our daughter stayed in the hotel part, in the honeymoon suite and it was absolutely beautiful. Theres a balcony attached to the room for beautiful picture taking.

All in all, I would recommend Coconut Cove Resort. Theres no on-site bar or eatery, but with stores so close and the cottages fully stocked with everything you would need to prepare food, it worked out well.

The owners and staff at Coconut Cove really showed us a good time, excellent food and were so accomadating and friendly. It's a laid back spot, which was so relaxing.

We have a lot of beautiful memories from Coconut Cove. It was the most amazing Wedding ever!!!

  • Liked — The staff was awesome, relaxing and beautiful scenery.....
  • Disliked — The rooms are old, but doable....would like heated pool. Firepit needs to be redone, it's only a half moon, so all guests could not sit together!

Both my wife and I have travelled all around the world and stayed in a lot of very nice places. This is one place worth a visit. Beautiful location very clean and the staff excellent. When we arrived the lady that welcomed us was very kind and nothing was a bother to make sure we were happy during our stay. We latter found out that the lady was Magda Bates who owns Coconut Cove with her husband Paul. The Pool and the grounds are all designed by Mr Bates and if you do stay here, I think you will agree it is a touch of class. Well priced and well worth a visit.
We will definately be back. I belive weddings are a speciality and no wonder with the beautiful surroundings

I needed a beak from work and decided to head for the Keys! I looked on the Islamorada Chamber of Commerce website and found Coconut Cove Resort & Marina. It was beyond my expectations, moderately priced with 5 Star service. Captain's Quarters are 60's Florida Keys but very clean and comfortable after a long day of fishing. Very quaint marina which gets you to the fishing quickly. The whole property is very well kept with million dollar views. I'll be spending any free time at the Coconut Cove!!
