Reviewed 5 July 2014 via mobile

This is our first chance to get away for a holiday. Staff is very friendly and knowledgable about the area. My husband did not tell me where we were headed so I could not make my normal plans, all I was told was "it's a true vacation!"

We arrived early and our room was not ready to check in, but that's ok we had a chance to explore the grounds. The pool, restaurants, bars, golf area and ocean all over the top. ( no golf this week it told him)

When we arrived in the room all I could see was blue water. A dream come true.

Normally when we go on vacation I have all the dinner reservation book and all planed out but this time will be different. His idea is " To go with it and see what happens".

We have stayed at Cheeca a couple of times now in an Ocean Front Suite. Rooms are great. Big, well furnished, and the balcony hot tub in our room overlooking the ocean was great fun. Food is good, not great. But we really enjoy the "Chart Room" bar - it is on the second floor (above the lobby), has excellent outdoor seating, and one can order from any of the three different restaurant menus. They will bring it right up! The young lady that served us several nights in the Chart Room was excellent, and charming (she was from South America). They ought to give her a raise!
Maid service a little uneven, and turn down service was as hit or miss as a lottery ticket - some nights we got it, some night we didn't. Once chocolates were left, all other nights no such luck. But small potatoes in the scheme of things. Try the par three golf course, it is really fun!

It’s wonderful to see all those green circles above your review. Thanks! We are really glad you mentioned our Chart Room lounge. It is a priceless piece of real estate here in the Keys with stunning ocean views, luxurious seating areas and great food. We welcome all of our guests to go up there! We are happy you enjoyed your accommodations, and you have our word that we will work on the “small potatoes.” Thanks for writing, and we look forward to seeing you for another return visit.

Granted, one must expect the holiday rate to be exorbitant. Nonetheless, we were not impressed with Cheeca Lodge. On the positive side, my wife did compliment the spa. The valet, restaurant servers and one of the concierge (the other was useless) were all pleasant and professional. The grounds are well kept.
The front desk ladies, even with the free champagne, were pretentious... both of them. Housekeeping didn't change the bedding and seemed to do the minimum, by design. (I'm fine with conserving laundry water and using the same towels for a couple days.) The wood cabinet under the sink is rotted. The rooms in the main lodge are average, despite the tub on the balcony. It all just doesn't say $500/night (holiday rate) to me.
More likely to stay at a resort with true bungalows and first class service next trip to Islamorada.

We are big fans of the Cheeca Lodge, and we recently went back to celebrate our son's birthday. Each staff member we dealt with went way beyond to help make our son's birthday stay extra special. It is amazing how far the little extras go in the heart of an 8 year old and the rest of our family! While everyone was extra nice and accommodating, we would like to make a special mention and thank you to the following:

Earl at the guard gate: From the moment you enter Cheeca Lodge, actually . . . before you even get to the Lodge, you pass through the guard gate, and that means a friendly welcome from Earl. Earl is the friendliest, most knowledgeable guard gate guy you'll ever encounter! Not only does he greet you with his friendly smile and personality, but he will give you his food recommendations, drink recommendations, and suggest some activities and other useful information for your stay. He's kind of like a guard gate concierge! Thanks, Earl!

Allison at check-in: Allison was great. She was so nice and she did an absolutely fantastic job of getting us the most perfect room for our son's birthday. The view and location was spectacular, and we cannot thank her enough for getting our stay off to an incredible start!

Omeil Smith is just amazing!! He brings a spark of energy to the morning breakfast buffet, and is the friendliest, funniest, and most enjoying waiter ever! We really enjoyed how much at home Omeil made us feel while dining in the restaurant. Each morning, we looked forward to our breakfast with Omeil. He is definteily an asset to the Lodge.

Magda at the restaurant podium was also very kind and helpful. She went out of her way numerous times to ensure that we were well taken care of. She has a friendly and caring demeanor about her, and she makes the guest feel welcomed at all times.

Gabriel, the restaurant supervisor, was so kind and gracious. He had the staff send up special plates of goodies to our son for his birthday. They even wrote happy birthday notes on the plates! The children loved it! He was also checking with us every time we saw him to ensure that our stay was going just perfectly. Gabriel really escalated our stay at Cheeca to a superior experience!

Marcus: Marcus was everywhere for us! No matter where we were, Marcus would find us to bring us whatever we needed! He also brought a special birthday treat to our son! He was always checking up on us, and always making sure we had everything we needed to make our stay at Cheeca Lodge a most memorable one. Marcus's dedication and focus on the guests is top-notch, and is above and beyond what any guest would expect!

We met so many other nice guests staying at the lodge. People are so friendly and it was great getting to meet so many new friends! Thanks to all the staff, and how incredible wonderful they are, Cheeca Lodge is like a home to us when we are there!

My wife and I had a tremendous time here at Cheeca Lodge. We are packing up our stuff now and I had to take a minute to rave about our experience. Have you ever heard of radical hospitality, yep it's here. Housekeeping, housekeeping, housekeeping!!! I start here because without your hard work everything else would be irrelevant. The leadership/director of housekeeping I salute you. It is evident that you have set a strong foundation, your staff went over and beyond to make our stay comfortable and relaxing.

I met two young men at the pool that catered to our every request, shout out to Schneider (I think that's how you spell your name) and Emmanuel, continue your hard work and know that you are appreciated.

I don't know what else to say, I am lost for words... If you want to have a relaxing vacation and experience radical hospitality Cheeca is the place to be!!!

Great for all generations, plenty to keep everyone busy or relaxing and everything in between. We come every year to relax and enjoy all this island has to offer. We used to go to Key West but since we have a family Islamorada is best suited for families,
