“Nice but expensive unless you need the marina”
Reviewed 18 April 2013

Captain Pip's Hideaway is a little hard to find. The office is next to Porky's restaurant (fast service, good bbq) but the entrance to pull into park in front of your room is more difficult. Identified by an empty billboard type sign.

The room was very clean, laundry was available. The staff was friendly and very helpful. It was nice to have our own parking spot right in front of our room. a cooler and beach towels were provided in the room.

This would have 5 stars if the rates had been lower. We did not get the package with a boat, just the room.

Not the taj mahal, but more than nice enough for a fishing and boating getaway to the Florida Keys. Everything you need is in one spot; marina, restaurant and bar. Clean room, friendly and super helpful staff.
One tip, if renting fishing or snorkeling gear, be sure to rent it by the day, not the week, or your getting charged whether you use it or not.

Room Tip: I chose the tree-tops room without the water view to save a few bucks. I'll see plenty of water...

My husband & I, with my sister in tow, headed for Key West. We had made a reservation at Capt. Pip's marina & hideaway. The reason for picking Capt. Pip's was the special package 3 nights with 2 days fishing with a guide. Having never stayed here before, we were hoping for the best. but upon arrive we were doubting our choice. WE checked in & Ellie took us around to our rm, which she said was an upgrade. My sister said I had a look of complete shock on my face. Then Ellie openned the door, we went from let down to total WOW. The apt. was nicely furnished, everything we could want, but not over done. We spent a happy time looking things over, sitting on the dock, enjoying the beautiful view. The next morning we got up to go fishing, our guide Neil was ready to go. He was as nice as could be, & we had a ball with him. We caught the biggest King Mackeal fo the day ( see pic). The next day the weather was not fit to go out, so we were given an extra day on Fri. What can you say, the place was clean, comforable, with a full size fridge. Porky's cooked our catch & it was perfection. The view was beautiful. We will be back soon. We love this place

Went to the keys for a week with my wife and decided on Captain Pips on the basis of price and location. We were looking for a place that afforded some fishing (for me) and some beach time for my wife. We also wanted a place close enough to Key West for a day trip. Pips fit the bill very nicely. The room was clean and comfortable with a kitchenette, grill and full sized fridge/freezer. We only used the kitchen for a light breakfast but the property is 1/4mi from a Publix grocery store if you want to go that route. The convenience store accross the highway had all we needed. The appliances and fixtures are a little dated but in working order. After all, we were looking for charm and economy, not the Taj ma hal. That being said, we were nicely suprised with a few bonuses. The folks at the property were all very friendly and accomodating. From the office to the captains to the dock keeper, everyone was pleasant and seemed genuinely enthused about our good time. We got info regarding anything we were inerested in,incluing directions to an out of the way local beach to lay on and dive from. Porkys Tiki Bar(right on the property) was a little gem with internet access, good food at a good price, and a "must try" smoked fish dip. The guy that runs the smoker there is a meistro. They will also cook your catch and round out the meal nicely for $11. The fishing was a lot of fun even if the 1/2 day reef fishing was a little pricey. $625 plus tip for 5mi. out. However, we were lucky enough to split the charter with some nice folks that we met at Porkys. I would suggest to do that and get the techniques you need to be successful and safe. Shallow water can be expensive with a rental boat, if not dangerous. If I get back, I'll rent a a boat as needed for an extra $75...Try and beat that! And did I mention?, We caught fish..LOTS OF 'EM. They are all nestled neatly in my freezer and when we have a meal of delicious yellowtails, we'll remember a wonderful week at Captain Pips. Thanks Barbara and a special thanks to Capt. Howard and Todd the marina man.

Went to Capt Pips for a boat rental. Had such a good experience with Ellie checking us in and Matt helping us with the boat that we returned the next day. Now we are looking into staying there next year. They were so good with safety and helping you understand the waters around Marathon which can be challenging due to the low water levels. We just had such a nice time and the boat felt safe and in good condition. Afterwards we ate at Porky's -right in the Marina. Delicious bar b que and great happy hour after 4:00!

My wife and I love this place!!!! we have stayed here 4 times and it's everything we want in a vacation. All the staff members are very friendly, dedicated and helpful making sure that we enjoy our visit. the rooms are nice, very clean and the boats are well maintained and exactly what is needed to catch fish or just running around the area enjoying all of the beautiful scenery. we also enjoy Porky's restaurant next door. the other day when we arrived and the lady escorting us to our room told us "welcome home" i knew we were at the right place and that we would be coming back for more stays in the future. in fact I'll be back in May.

We made this reservation months in advance with Ellie who also took care of us personally when we arrived. From the road this place doesn't look like much, but after you check in you are led through a little tropical maze to your cottage, nestled in the bay by the marina. This isn't a big resort where you are a room number, these people go out of the way to get to know you and to make sure you have a great stay!! A 20 ft center console boat came with the room rate, it was clean, a newer boatwith a gps and ran great, Ellie had personally navigated our trip on a map for us , going over every channel and causeway pointing out all the deeper and shallow areas of the ocean until we got it. We spent 5 hours on that boat and it was perfect!!! Couldn't have done it without her!! When we were done we went to Porky's bar and gathered there were all the fishermen and boat hands we had seen throughout the day and the hotel owners!! They made us feel like a couple of locals.
Rooms are clean with ocean views, outdoor furniture and full kitchens for cooking. We stayed at 4 more places on our 10 day trip, but we had not really relaxed until we stayed at Capt. Pips!! We stayed in Looe Key What a great palce!
