Purchase 2 days there via expedia which was very confusing as the price quoted was increased when taken from my credit card. Consequently we found it expensive given that I could have stopped at a top London hotel for the same price. The stairs to the second floor were steep and slippery with poor lighting at night. The headboard was not fitted properly and banged every time you move in bed . The shower tray leaked. It was possible to hear every word of the conversation in the adjacent room. Finally their is a constant drone of fishing boat engines throughout the night with crab boats coming in and out of the adjacent harbour. We cut our trip short as it was not possible to get a good nights sleep with the noise. Not recommend

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience at Captain Pip's Marina & Hideaway. We appreciate your business and have used your comments to make future guest's stays even better. As I'm sure the reviewer is aware, when booking through services such as Expedia, the actual hotel has no control over what the customer is charged. The rates are set by services such as Expedia. In this case, the guest got an upgraded room for a very reasonable price -- more than $100 less than our rate card rate. We do share our harbor with commercial stone crab and lobster fishing boats. During their season, which runs from August through May, boats come and go frequently from sunrise to sunset, but never during the night. This commercial fishery is a big part of the Keys economy and part of daily life on our island. Some guests find it charming, while others might find it simply an annoyance. Remember, without those boats coming and going, visitors and residents would not be able to enjoy delicious stone crabs and lobster for dinner.

We stayed 3 nights in the Tree Top room. Very quiet and secluded place to stay, yet just off the highway. You can rent boats on site and Porky's Restaurant is next door. This is a no frills place with no wifi. We just walked over to Porky's and used there's. Full size fridge, microwave & toaster in room. The TV is very small, but you don't go to the key's to watch TV. Only an hour drive to Key West. We wished we would have just stayed and done things in Marathon instead.
We will definitely be back. Thanks for a great stay.

This is a great place to stay to spend a day or two fishing as part of a longer holiday down the Keys. This is the second time that I have visited Captain Pips. We normally reserve the use of a Boat and a Fishing Guide as part of our accommodation booking. On both occasions we have stayed in the Grouper Room. This is a reasonably large airy room with a comfortable bed. A little bit dated, but homely and charming. Everything is spotlessly clean, with good bedlinen and plenty of towels are provided. Although the Bathroom is relatively small, the Shower is large and is excellent. There is a large Fridge/ Freezer and Coffee/Tea Making machine in the room. There is a pleasant sheltered Garden area with views overlooking the private boat mooring pier. My Wife spent many hours reading in this quiet spot whilst I was out fishing. Captain Pips runs a fleet of well maintained and equipped boats and I was fortunate to be accompanied by a very good Guide Capt Zach Willis. We had a particularly successful day and caught a lot of very large Yellow Tail snappers, Capt Zach really knows his stuff ! - I hope that he will be available next time I visit. On an adjacent part of the property is Porky's Bar/Restaurant, This is a rather rustic and lively affair serving basket type meals, burgers and the like, Popular with the local fishing/boating community they seem to have live music every evening, we caught Dan Sullivan on a Thurs night who sings lively country music with amusing words, very good ! - a happy place altogether. Captain Pips Marina has a good web site http://captainpips.com/ which is well worth a look, We have found Ellie very friendly, competent and responsive to emails.

We didn't say here, but we rented a boat from here during our week stay in Marathon with the goal of diving Sombrero reef.

Back in the fall when we were booking our vacation during XMas to New Years week, most boat rental places I inquired at either did not reply back to my e-mails in a timely fashion, or they just said they were booked or needed minimum XXX days rental when booking in advance. Captain Pips replied back the very next morning, and she (I think her name was Ellie) was VERY helpful, and as I continued to e-mail back 'n forth with her, she was always replying back quickly and just seemed so helpful.

The day we rented the boat, was very windy, small craft warning, not a day to take our 10 yo daughter out to Sombrero reef to five. So we stayed mostly gulf side and around the 7 mile bridge area. Rented the 24' Hurricane deck boat. The boats are a bit more than "used" looking but the engine ran great, starts right up, and for a big 225hp was very thrifty on gas. And those are what count! Price seemed a bit better than some other places too.

The young girl that checked us in with the paperwork was very helpful and nice. And the dude that checked us out and back in with the boat was nice 'n laid back and helpful.

If we ever go back to the Keys and need to rent a boat, it will be from here!
