“Perfection”

The island was everything we hoped it would be, and more. It was far enough from the mainland to feel VERY private, yet close enough to make quick and easy ventures to Marathon and the surrounding Keys. We watched beautiful sunsets and sunrises, were entertained by stingrays and dolphins, kayaked and snorkeled. We truly relaxed in this peaceful setting. The breeze blew through the entire house throughout our stay, keeping us comfortable. We never needed to shut the doors or windows, for privacy or the weather. With all of the options for activities, we found we loved just relaxing on the lower porch, drinking boat drinks and watching the water. This was the most amazing way to celebrate our ten year wedding anniversary, it was simply perfection.

My partner and I went to Pretty Joe Rock in January when the weather was freezing but it didn't matter! We fell in love with this home! Absolutely amazing! We fished the entire time with our golden retriever...we took the boat down to the bridge and caught dinner EVERY SINGLE NIGHT! We snorkeled, caught crabs, lobsters...played dominoes out on the front porch every night...made Cuban coffee so we could stay up all night because we didn't want to miss ANYTHING! We've traveled all over...we're from Miami and we made our reservations for October to try out the shore house and private island with boat! We were extremely disappointed to hear that the Island was booked and will be for a while being that CNN picked up the story :(...for those that have stayed understand this because this Island is ONE OF A KIND!

I have to say to the couple that posted that it was their "nightmare" ...umm, you're on an ISLAND...how else do you expect to get up and on the dock and down on the boat?! We navigated that little dingy in LOW AND HIGH Tides...the house was spectacular clean and we helped Rich out by cleaning all the linens and WE kept the house up to par...if you were expecting 5 star resort services...go up the road!

To fellow Islanders don't let that review scare you off...it's a one of a kind place! Make sure you ask to speak with Pam, because she is the best with accommodations!!

Thanks again for such a memorable vacation!! Can't wait for a week to open up for us!!

We arrived in the afternoon. It was amazing from the moment we got there. We did some kayaking, snorkeling and fishing. We got to see dolphins, sting ray, lot's of different types of fish, and even an octopus - all from the island. We didn't do all the site seeing we had planned on because the island was so great, we just didn't want to leave. We did take a guided snorkelling trip and wished we used the gear from Pretty Joe Rock. It is great, quality equipment. The sunset is amazing. We like to try new locations every year, but we decided that this was so great that we are coming back next year.

I took this vacation with my family and my close cousins. We had an amazing time and so much fun. The island is just close enough to land that you can get back in a minute or so, but far enough away that you still have complete privacy and the feeling that you are truly in the middle of the Caribbean. I spent most of my time in the water that was super warm, snorkeling around the island that is teaming with fish and also crabs. Also every night we would sit on the dock at watch the sun set into the ocean, it was absolutely amazing!! The house was also really nice and we all were able to enjoy the grill at dinner time! This was one of the best trips, and i really recommend it to anyone and everyone!

This was a very unique vacation destination, but surely not for the weak at heart. In our opinion this place did not live up to the standards purported on their website. The house was filthy, with dead roach carcasses throughout and with LIVE Palmetto Bugs in the bed walking on us at night. One walk across the beautiful wood floors and my feet were rendered black. The oven was left in deplorable condition, with dried food and dead insects on the bottom. The setting is idyllic, however, the service and the housekeeping just aren't worth the money we paid. One must be careful when navigating between the land and the island with the boat. It can only be safely accomplished in high tide, otherwise getting on and off the dock requires at least a 3 foot climb in and out of the boat. What we liked best about this place was the serene privacy, and what we liked least was the presence of huge Palmetto Bugs scurrying about in the house, but more repulsively, in the bed. No one should have to vacation in these conditions. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

If you don't like crowds and enjoy your privacy while on vacation, then this island is for you. I rented it through rentmyisland.com and it is an incredible place to stay. I brought my wife and two young daughters and they all loved it and didn't want to leave. You park on the mainland and the local contact, Rick, brings you across to the island in a 14' Carolina Skiff which is about 300 yards from the mainland. He shows you around the island and home and when you are done, you need to take him back to the mainland then you can return to the island. There are two sea kayaks for use, fishing gear and snorkeling gear as well. You definitely want to snorkel around the island as we saw barracuda, rainbow parrotfish, mullet snapper, and a bunch of other tropical fish I don't know the name of. We also saw a nurse shark (docile). My girls pretty much were fish most of the week spent there. We also did some fishing later in the day off the front boat dock and the rear deck. Buy some frozen squid up the street at BigK's Fishing center (next door to K-Mart). We caught all kinds of fish including barracuda (bring or buy fishing pliers and gloves) and let them go so everyone can enjoy them in the future. There is also a sunken boat (16'-18') in about 12' of water located about 50 yards off the rear deck where we snorkeled and kayaked to. It has all the tropical fish you can think of including two Queen Anglefish. Every where you look is an ocean view worth dying for. You can even sit out on the rear deck in the evening and watch the lightening storms 100's of miles out to sea. As far as amenities go, each bedroom is large and nicely decorated. The master bedroom has an excellent bathroom with a sunken jetted tub with a view to the ocean and the shower has two sides with glass to the exterior but with the privacy of the island that is not an issue. The main family room is spacious and comfortable along with the front screened patio where we played games during the day and evening. There is more but you have to experience it to believe it. We will be coming back for sure as it beats last years vacation in Maui which was the previous #1.
