“Basic but nice!”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

This hotel has obviously been around a long time but the location is great for the middle keys! The room was warm (window air conditioner didn't work) but there is lots of room and a VERY large patio/deck for hanging out. Definitely worth the money.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the water (away from the road) are best.

We went on a girls (womans) trip for a week through Florida..after searching on the internet for a spot that would "feel" like the keys-I came across this hotel. It was PERFECT!!! We had a ground floor room (#1) 2 beds, Living room/ Kitch combo-opening our front door to a private patio, grill table and chairs with a view of the water RIGHT THERE!! Were we going to go into Key West for the day then decided WHY?? Stayed outside our door on the beach and relaxed. Angie at the front desk was GREAT! She was wonderful on the phone and took great care of us while we were there. We will definitely stay here again!!

Room Tip: We loved #1

This place is truly a TREASURE....Everything one would want of a Florida Key experience will start here....This being my 4th visit to the Florida Keys and the first time staying off Key West.....My boyfriend and I stayed in Room #5....King bed Ocean view........50ft and you were overlooking the ocean and within 10min one could be swinging on a hammock between two palm trees enjoying a tropical breeze!!!! .....Even though there was no vacancy we hardly saw a soul....It felt as though we had the place to ourselves....The staff...WONDERFUL...Perfect location as they are mile marker 57...Visit Key West OR find many of the same fun things to do right on Marathon Key....We can not wait to come back....Peter and Diane

Motel reminded us of a '60s motel on a major highway which has not been updated. Room smelled terrible - musty with a lot of smoking. The road noise from nearby US 1 continued through the night. The worst was that a quite robust waterbug/palmetto bug decided to get under the sheets with me around 3 AM so i didn't sleep much from that point on. I did report the unpaid "guest" so i hope the management has treated the room. We realize the price was not as much as other hotels in the area, but it was quite costly on its own and truly not worth the price. Advice: spend the additional money for a better hotel down the road.

I lived in the Florida keys for 18 yrs, been away for five. When a business trip brought me back I wanted to stay in a place that reminded me of what I truly loved and missed about the keys.I found it here! The peace and quiet, the nature, opening up my door in the morning to watch the sunrise.Even the little touches, coffee under the tiki hut in the morning, complimentary Kayak People that have written bad reviews,I just dont get it, as an artist and former keys local, I am just in love with this place..

What a disappointment! We were really excited to stay at this “step back in time to the way things used to be. When you enter our property you will feel like you are back in the 1950s.” resort. We were hoping for the ‘50’s feel they advertise, but didn’t find that at all!
The grounds are cute, so things were looking good, but that changed the second we opened the door. There was a terrible odor… like sewer or mold, maybe moldy sewer. You could tell the room gets very damp. All the paneling is wavy and pulling away from the wall, the refrigerator had mold all over the seal, the kitchen cabinets had mold as well & they were swollen and coming apart in places.... totally reeked when you opened them. All the walls were white, & there was one picture on the wall, that was it for decoration. We didn’t even have a clock. Did I mention the smell?? I had a headache after only a few minutes in the room. The cleaning staff needs to pay a little more attention to detail. The cupboards and pulls were dirty and grimy, the baseboards were dirty, & they even left someone’s take out container in the refrigerator! There were a couple random doors in there, one we couldn’t open, and the other led out to part of the old shower house, and by the drain in the middle of the bathroom floor, I’d guess some of our room was also part of the shower house. The bathroom & kitchen area had been “updated”. We said something about the smell to the lady who checked us in, and she just said it’s a Florida thing that we will have to get used to, and asked if we noticed the bags they had hanging in the room, and they were for taking moisture out of the air. I think the icing on the cake was the critter running around up in the drop ceiling of bedroom 1! The next morning I noticed rat traps outside and a big hole in the fascia outside the room.
On a positive note, the grounds were quite charming! There were 2 docks & it was fun to watch the water critters in their natural habitat. We were also able to watch a beautiful sunrise from the hammock.

We loved this place! We had room nr. 6, and the MOST incredible view from out patio! The palm trees, the sea, the sky -- wonderful! And the birds!

Our apartment was fine. Could have used a bit more storage space in the bedroom. The furniture all looked relatively new and was in great shape.

It has a good location -- close enough to "downtown" Marathon to make shopping easy, but far enough away to be quiet.

We will most definitely return here!
