Whilst not a resort by any stretch of the imagination, we have had a fairly good stay here. It's true that you can't swim off the beach unless you go a loooong way out, but for peace and quiet, and a beautiful sunrise from the end of the dock, it's a good spot.
Our room was basic and smelled a little damp on arrival, but was clean, with a coffee maker and enough kitchen stuff to get by.

Our main complaint was the rudeness and bad attitude of the woman at the check in desk, to whom paying guests are clearly an inconvenience sent to annoy her. In an area like the Keys where good service is the norm, it really stood out as a negative.

While the hotel is at the cheaper end when booking in advance, we could have got a much better deal at a better place by leaving it late (it was just off-season), and could have got more for our money by being braver.

With no bar or other facilities to speak of, make sure you bring everything you need. There's not much within walking distance either, so if you fancy a night out on the booze you'll be needing a designated driver.

If its a simple base for exploring the Keys that you want, you could do worse, as its pretty much halfway between Key West and the mainland. If you want more than a bed and a shower, or if competent staff is your thing, look elsewhere.

This small resort is located directly on the beach with an unobstructed view of the ocean. Although it is on the highway, the rooms face the beach, and we heard no traffic noise whatsoever. Our room was well laid-out. There were sliding glass doors leading to a balcony with two chairs overlooking the beach and the ocean, and you could see the ocean from the sofa. For meals there was a little table with two chairs next to the backdoor, opposite the little kitchen, which had a sink, range with oven, microwave, and coffee maker in addition to utensils and dishes, etc.
The resort has a long pier with a tiki-umbrella and picnic table at the far end, a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the view, have coffee or wine, birdwatch or chat. There was a hammock on the beach and plenty of lounge chairs and deck chairs, too. There are kayaks which you can take out for free.
The only reason I didn’t give this five stars is that the apartment could have used a deep cleaning. But all the kitchen equipment was clean, as was the bathroom. If we come to the Keys again, I would stay here again for sure.

This hotel has obviously been around a long time but the location is great for the middle keys! The room was warm (window air conditioner didn't work) but there is lots of room and a VERY large patio/deck for hanging out. Definitely worth the money.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the water (away from the road) are best.

We went on a girls (womans) trip for a week through Florida..after searching on the internet for a spot that would "feel" like the keys-I came across this hotel. It was PERFECT!!! We had a ground floor room (#1) 2 beds, Living room/ Kitch combo-opening our front door to a private patio, grill table and chairs with a view of the water RIGHT THERE!! Were we going to go into Key West for the day then decided WHY?? Stayed outside our door on the beach and relaxed. Angie at the front desk was GREAT! She was wonderful on the phone and took great care of us while we were there. We will definitely stay here again!!

Room Tip: We loved #1

This place is truly a TREASURE....Everything one would want of a Florida Key experience will start here....This being my 4th visit to the Florida Keys and the first time staying off Key West.....My boyfriend and I stayed in Room #5....King bed Ocean view........50ft and you were overlooking the ocean and within 10min one could be swinging on a hammock between two palm trees enjoying a tropical breeze!!!! .....Even though there was no vacancy we hardly saw a soul....It felt as though we had the place to ourselves....The staff...WONDERFUL...Perfect location as they are mile marker 57...Visit Key West OR find many of the same fun things to do right on Marathon Key....We can not wait to come back....Peter and Diane

Motel reminded us of a '60s motel on a major highway which has not been updated. Room smelled terrible - musty with a lot of smoking. The road noise from nearby US 1 continued through the night. The worst was that a quite robust waterbug/palmetto bug decided to get under the sheets with me around 3 AM so i didn't sleep much from that point on. I did report the unpaid "guest" so i hope the management has treated the room. We realize the price was not as much as other hotels in the area, but it was quite costly on its own and truly not worth the price. Advice: spend the additional money for a better hotel down the road.

I lived in the Florida keys for 18 yrs, been away for five. When a business trip brought me back I wanted to stay in a place that reminded me of what I truly loved and missed about the keys.I found it here! The peace and quiet, the nature, opening up my door in the morning to watch the sunrise.Even the little touches, coffee under the tiki hut in the morning, complimentary Kayak People that have written bad reviews,I just dont get it, as an artist and former keys local, I am just in love with this place..
