“Sombrero Beach RANKS HIGH”
Review of Sombrero Beach

Sombrero Beach

We really enjoyed Sombrero Beach in Marathon. It is located at MM 50 on the Atlantic side on Sombrero Road. It has plenty of sand beside the ocean, as well as a nice sandy bottom. You can see through the crystal clear emerald & blue water. You can snorkel from the beach and see a variety of fish.

It has both shallow and deep water swimming for the whole family. Facilities include a playground, picnic pavilions with BBQ pits, volleyball courts, restrooms and showers.

There is a lot of room for a family to relax and enjoy the day. The beach was very clean as well , the landscaping was nicely done and the entire park is well kept.

Wear your water shoes as you should do at all Keys beaches.

There is plenty of good parking out on the street and the area is fenced so the kids can run. Pets are also welcome.

Even though it doesn't have kayak rentals or snorkel trip, I would still have to rank it up near the top with Bahia Honda. Bring your own kayak and enjoy the park to it's fullest!

As a native Floridian, I'm always on the lookout for new places to visit . My hubby and I love taking day trips and the Keys are one of our favorite getaways.

I learned of Sombrero Beach while searching TripAdvisor for pet friendly beaches and decided to visit this weekend. The facilities, shower, bathrooms, huts and volleyball courts are indeed a wonderful compliment to the beach and appeared new. The grounds were nicely laid out, well maintained and there was plenty of parking available.

The beach itself never felt overcrowded with its steady flow of departures and arrivals. The sand was made up of your typical crushed shells, but unfortunately for us, the water was murky this weekend and there was a ton of seaweed on the beach which gave off an awful stench.

The seaweed and murky waters could be attributed to the summer season when the oceans get stirred frequently by storms, etc. No doubt, we'll need to make a few more trips (or reviews) to be certain.

For the natives, it's a nice day trip and alternative to to Anne's Beach and not as far as Bahia Honda's Sandspur Beach.

For tourists, I think its a nice place to visit if you're staying somewhere in the middle Keys (especially since there are very limited numbers of beaches in the Keys).

The only reason I gave this beach an "Average" rating was due to the seaweed and water quality -- the rest was A+.

As far as beaching it with our dog, think we'll stick with the beaches along the Rickenbacker Causeway in Key Biscayne since they are closer to home.

Spent an afternoon here with my wife and 2 small children. Glad we found it on Trip-Advisor! The public beaches in the keys can be hit and miss and this one was a hit for sure. Nice soft sand beach, but the water line was crushed shell so bring your water shoes if you can. There was no seaweed/grass on the beach when we were there (mid Feb, 2006)- I hear that can be a problem from time to time. Not too crowded, but we went on a weekday afternoon. The kids had a blast in the sand, then played on the modern playground. There are bathrooms and rinse-off showers as well. Will certainly go back if we're in the area again. Overall 4 out of 5.

We spent an afternoon at this beach and had a great time! The water is so beautiful and the beach was nice and clean. At the end of the day there were sky divers landing on the beach which were fun to watch! We had a nice sunset to end the day!
