“Awesome getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2013 via mobile

We are so glad we chose Tranquility Bay! After we arrived we drove around other resorts in the keys we had on our short list, not a one held a candle to this resort.

Clean and peaceful, no loud partying or noisy streets.

We stayed in unit #2, and contrary to a few other reviews did not get bothered by the turtle hospital. I WOULD recommend units 1-5 they are. Little more private than the rest.

Spend the extra for the beachfront, but don't worry if you don't there is not a bad room on the place.

Thanks tranquility bay for a great getaway

Marathon used to be the type of place that I just drove through on the way to Key West, always promising that one day I would stop and visit Pigeon Key and maybe stay over. The fact was that Marathon just didn'tt look that attractive from just passing through on the Overseas Highway. A couple of weeks ago I decided to take an impromptu trip to the Keys to flee colder weather in mainland Florida and after some internet surfing including Trip Advisor decided to make that stay in Marathon at Tranquility Bay Resort. I checked their rates and it appeared that there was plenty of availability, but all the accommodation was in three bedroom town houses, which seemed like overkill for two people, but the price was just over $200 which was very reasonable by Keys standards, particularly Key West where similar accommodation was going for over $800 per night.

The resort if just off the highway on the gulf side. The place was far larger than I expected, with a series of large white buildings designed in the old Florida style grouped around a central building where the check in and excellent Butterfly Cafe are located. All the rooms have a back entrance that accepts the key card and a front entrance that overlooks the gulf.Upon entering our room we were blown away by first the size and modernity of the ground floor. There was a very well equipped kitchen with every possible appliance. Nothing cheap about the cutlery or dishes, which is too often the case even in high end resorts. The upstairs was consistent with the first floor - spacious and well appointed. The deck off the master bedroom had a wonderful gulf view with a breeze coming in. Really the place could easily have doubled as a fully equipped home - I couldn't help thinking what a fantastic value this would be for three couples travelling together or a family with up to four kids.

The property has two pools, one being the largest in the Keys. You can rent kayaks on site and paddle up to the lighthouse about half a mile away. This is not a property for those who want to swim in the ocean. There is lots of sand, but the only place to go in is a small apparently man made cove that has a ring of seagrass around it that most people would find off putting. This is quite natural, but we saw no one in the water during our stay. Most of the guests that we saw seemed to be middle aged or older women and families so it's also probably not the best place for younger people looking for action. All in all though it is a very good resort.

The reasons I do not give Tranquility Bay the highest rating are threefold, two of which are easily remedied. First, they keep bright outdoor lights on all night which means you will probably want to pull the drapes and thus not get a chance to wake up to view of the water. Second, there is no way to get in the front entrance (the one looking toward the water) without keeping your door unlocked. In order to get to the waterside you have to take a circuitous route around the back of the resort. This could be easily fixed by putting locks on the front doors that can be opened with the key card.

The last is one that the resort can do nothing about and that is the traffic noise from nearby Overseas Highway. While it is pretty well completely blocked out in the master bedroom, it is definitely noticeable from the other two bedrooms that front on the highway side. So if you are three couple sharing one of these units be prepared to flip a coin to see who gets the master suite.

These are relatively minor quibbles given the overall value this resort offers.

Room Tip: There is construction of new units on the left (southern) side of the complex. Ask for a room on th...

We spent 3 days here, the condo was clean modern and right on the beach. The facility has a lot of amenities, plus the view is outstanding. We walked out our door on to a beautiful beach and could see the Manatee's swimming.

Room Tip: We paid a little more to be on the each but it was worth it.

Family had stayed here recently. Glad we listened to their recommendation and booked here as well. Did not want to stay in Key West, so this property in Marathon was perfect. Excellent grounds, putting green, tiki bar, beachfront and cafe. Our cottage is gracefully furnished, overlooking the pool and beach. Recommend!!!

Hubby, Mom and I stayed here last year in the fall. September is a great time to visit the keys, low tourist time of year and great savings on super places to stay, like this one. We stayed in a three bed, handicap accessible town home overlooking the adult pool. Best part about this hotel is the beautiful view of sunsets from the "beach" tiki bar area, second best is the huge family pool and quiet, relaxing adult pool, third best is the spacious town homes. We really enjoyed our stay here, and Mom and I wanted to stay permanently! We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: The three bedroom handicap accessible units have one bed and bath on-suite on the main floor.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Tranquility Bay in November. We were celebrating our anniversary and every part of the resort (staff, restaurant, property) made it a special trip from beginning to end.

When we checked in, all of the staff members that we spoke with were so welcoming, which immediately started our trip off on the right foot. Then, when we began walking to our condo, we knew we were in for an amazing time. The property is beautiful, quiet and peaceful, as was our condo. The bed was so comfortable and the porches were perfect for taking in the beauty that is Tranquility Bay! We then ventured to TJ's Tiki Bar, right on the beach with a beautiful view, where I had an amazing mojito before heading to dinner at the resort's Butterfly Cafe. What a perfect, fresh meal and wonderful place where, again, all of the staff was so kind. Everyone truly cared to ensure that we were enjoying our experience.

For the rest of our stay, we mostly just relaxed and enjoyed each other's company-- definitely a the perfect atmosphere for doing so! We DID make it a point to rent a pair of wave runners right on-site from a very cool guy named Burt. That was a huge plus for some extra fun! While the accommodations, restaurant and amenities at Tranquility Bay are outstanding, the staff is really what sent our stay over the top. What a remarkable group of people! The only downside to our stay was that it was too short and went by too fast. We will most certainly be making plans to return! Can't wait!
