“Anniversary Heaven”
Reviewed 1 February 2014

I am SO glad I booked our 30th Wedding Anniversary Trip at Tranquility Bay! It is just as beautiful as the pictures. The landscaping gives incredible privacy to each unit. We stayed in a brand new unit which was the main reason I booked the room. Each unit has a lovely picket fence out front that frames the walk way entrance. New units have their own private, garden walled swimming pool, a lovely fountain courtyard, and exercise room close by! Our room had a cathedral ceiling. The bath was gorgeous: tile, pedestal sink, soaking tub (no jets so very quiet) glassed shower and plenty of towels. I loved that we could control the climate of our own room. The food is wonderful, just check out the menus on their website. One highlight of our stay was going snorkeling at Sombrero Reef. The resort says they are located on 2.5 acres, but it seems 10 times larger than that. If you are sensitive to the sound of cars on a hwy, this part or Marathon is very narrow and is adjacent to the main road. I was not bothered at all, but my husband mentioned it. Had we been using our air conditioning, any and all noises would have been blocked. We never heard any noise from other units. A King size bed is a must as my husband is 6'5" tall. We were glad we had one, but my husband still prefers his own bed for firmness. I loved the bedding, so soft, fluffy, and white, like sleeping on a cloud! Also, if you need to avoid stairs, they have units with handicapped access without stairs. The daily maid service was much appreciated! The rooms are conveniently equipped with TV, microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker w/coffee & mugs, ice bucket & cups. The staff is quick to supply cork screws, plastic ware, extra pool towels or any other necessities you may require in your unit. We were treated very well, and never lacked for anything. The large pool is gorgeous (!) and has a zero entrance which I love. I would love to return to Tranquility Bay every year! It is a great place for couples, and from what I observed about the larger units, perfect for families. The staff are all friendly, very courteous, and quick to tailor their service to your individual needs.

Room Tip: Best to call and talk to Tranquility Bay Reservations about your individual needs.

Stayed for 3 nights in one of the new guest rooms. Decor is gorgeous. However there is only one comfy chair. For the price we paid per night we shouldn't have to use the bed as additional seating while having coffee or a glass of wine. Also the lighting was poor for the size of the room.

The resort grounds are beautiful. Missing is a cafe to get a takeout cup of coffee and a breakfast item. You need to leave the resort to get breakfast or go to the grocery store. Don't think we will be back.

Paradoxes: 1. nice pool areas and immaculate landscaping - cats everywhere and one small garbage can in the room. 2. Brand new room and unit on the front left boundary of the property (as you face the lobby) - constant highway noise and poor housekeeping. 3. Friendly front desk staff - NO internet. A word about the internet - they have a very poor Wi Fi system. The worst ever! Unless you use the lobby computer or take your laptop to the lobby, forget it. Nothing. They need to spend $50,000 to upgrade their Wi Fi capacity. 4. $25/day resort fee - no internet and a horrid inlet with a beach that is literally inundated with stinking, rotting sea grass. 5. "Tranquility" in the name - interstate noise, tractors removing sea grass, maintenance worker operating a piercing, whining sanding machine on pieces of wood for 3 hours non-stop while we relaxed by the pool. 6. Huge, new room - no vanity area in bathroom such that you drop your stuff constantly. TV too small for room. Poorly constructed - heard brats running and stomping above us constantly. 7. Tiki bar located on nice water front area - bar closes early and is next to Dead Sea Weed Cove and the construction crane next door. 8. Front desk staff very nice (the girl actually showed us to our room and told us about the no noise from the interstate and good lighting in the parking lot) - we heard constant noise from the interstate and the lighting in the parking lot was poor. 9. Brand new unit (located on the far left boundary of the property and closest to the interstate as you face the lobby) - housekeeping in same building and dumpsters out back with constant housekeeping staff traffic. I will not be staying here again. Keep your expectations low and buy 4G service or you can expect to spend your vacation in the lobby getting internet connection.

Tranquility Bay is a very appropriate name. The resort is quiet and calm. The accommodations range from just a room, to three bedroom condos. They're nicely but simply decorated - beachy interiors with kitchen basics. Nice fluffy bedding and towels. Beach towels are provided in your condo. There are two outdoor spaces for each condo - one off the main room and the other off an upstairs bedroom. Heavy-duty deck chairs so they don't blow around. The doors to the decks are difficult to open - we saw this to be the case in multiple accommodations.

"Light housekeeping" is provided daily with more thorough cleaning on the 4th day - very pleasant housekeeping staff.

There's a Tiki Bar that has drinks until 8pm and food until 5pm. And I guess because they provide drinks and food, you aren't allowed to take anything from your condo onto the beach. After the Tiki Bar closes - the Butterfly Restaurant serves VERY good food for dinner. A nice assortment - from pizza to burgers and fish sandwiches to Panko Crusted Grouper and Scallops Risotto. You can even call and order take out - just walk over and pick up your dinner. A real plus!!!

There are some water sports available - kayaks, jet skis, etc. The Turtle Hospital is just south of the property and they give hourly tours - they provide a great service for the turtles but I think by now I can give the tour myself. Otherwise, it's a beautiful quiet beach. Marathon is generally a quiet stop - so if you're looking for excitement like Key West - this isn't it - but for us - it was just right.

Room Tip: Ask for an end unit.

I booked an oceanfront 2 bedroom unit for my wife and I to get away from it all. We purposely stayed outside of Key west to be somewhere quiet. We arrived at 6pm and this place was so awesome. However the next day at 8am all we heard was construction noises, boats, and a very loud turtle tour on a loud speaker from the turtle place next door.

When I made a complaint to the staff about the noise, they just acted like it wasn't a big deal. The resort even sent a survey asking for my feedback and nobody bothered to follow up. I guess they don't care about customer service.

Tip - If you do stay here, do not stay in units 1-5. Stay on the other side of the resort, far away from the turtle place.

You can't find a better value in the Florida Keys in my estimation. Resort is situated just north of the Seven Mile Bridge and has all the amenities one could expect for a four star resort. We particularly like the conch style townhouse design with the double balconies. Ours offered a nice view of the gulf through the trees, and the porch was shaded all day for a delightful place to sit and relax and read. There are two pools on the premises...one for adults and the other for families. Both were very welcoming.

This was our second trip to the resort and we will plan to go again next year.

Room Tip: Room 56 has a great view of the gulf through the trees...the porch is shaded all day.

Great potential for this place, but they need to pick up their game. Check in for us was delayed an hour until Monday at 5:00pm. So the fact that it's already a later than usual check in requires that the hotel work to figure out how they can get guest in by 4pm.
The place is really amazing in look and layout, but the beach had had no maintenance for days and the weeds had drifted in 8' deep and extended 50ft from water's edge.
The unit we were in, a 3 bedroom, was nice, but with the following defects: one side of each of the toaster slots burned out; main kitchen overhead light burned out; badly soiled love seat in living room; patio door that would not shut without slamming and could be only partially secured at night; beds (except for the king) that were shot, and I mean shot.
