Owner description: This bridge is currently closed, and is being repaired by the Florida DOT. It is scheduled to reopen in September 2017. In the Florida Keys, there is no name better known than Henry Flagler who built the world-famous Oversea Railway in the early 1900's. Called the "8th Wonder of the World", this amazing ribbon of steel and concrete forever changed the history of the Florida Keys.

My girlfriend and I were in the Keys celebrating our anniversary. The old bridge is such a huge part of the history down there. We had to check it out. We walked the full length of the old bridge and back. That is a long walk, but well worth it. It a quaint and beautiful walk. Great for photo taking too. The sunset is gorgeous from the bridge as well.

Me and the seven mile bridge go back more than 50 years. I can remember driving across it with my parents and later driving across it myself.I have spent nights out fishing on it and many days just walking it and enjoying the view. It has always been my Grand Canyon.

If you are a first time visitor to the Keys. This is a must stop photo opportunity. Good walk on the bridge. An inside feel for the Keys and take a photo to remember your visit.

No trip to Marathon is complete without walking or riding your bike across the old Seven Mile Bridge to Pigeon Key. The views of the sky and water are like no others. The water is so clear that last week, we watched manta rays, bonnet head sharks, and a bull shark swimming in the shallows on the Pigeon Key end. You never know what wild life you are going to spot.

In the morning, at the Marathon end, you can purchase t-shirts, hats, etc. to help fund the group that is trying to save the bridge from being torn down. Also on that end, gulf-side, fishing and picnicking at the base of the bridge are popular. There is plenty of parking or you can walk down to bridge using the bike path that goes all over Marathon.

A word of caution-the ramp to Pigeon Key is closed for repairs (June 2014) and there is not a bathroom. Overall, this is a must do while in Marathon!
