I have driven by the Sea Dell many times and thought it looked like a nice place to stay. They had me at the palm trees strung with lights at night and the string of buoys hanging in front of the office! I recently stayed at the Sea Dell for 5 nights, along with a friend and my parents. I was in charge of picking the motel for our group, so I was thrilled that I had chosen such a great place to stay. We were all very impressed with the Sea Dell and were sad to leave.
I had a queen room with a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker, along with a small bistro-style table and chair set that seated two people. My room was painted a muted lime green (lime green is one of my favorite colors) with a tropical decor, including a cool painted wall sconce and local art featuring Pigeon Key. The bed had a wicker headboard with a palm tree and matching wicker dresser and nightstand. Everything was just perfect. My room was spotless with high quality bedding and towels. There are other room types available: rooms with two double beds and larger rooms with sliding glass doors.
The pool area was lovely with many comfortable lounge chairs, and lots of tropical greenery surrounding the pool area. Even though the pool sits along the Overseas Highway, it is shielded from view by all of the beautiful greenery. I had the pool all to myself most of the times I swam.
Anything we needed was right there: pool towels, extra coffee or tea, a newspaper, and LOTS of brochures and pamphlets (the most I have ever seen in a motel/hotel in the Keys) about things to do, local restaurants, tours, etc. The motel even gives you a map highlighting the local restaurants in the area. The Sea Dell is located in Marathon which is halfway between Key Largo and Key West. It is across the street from a great deli (Marathon Deli) and a Publix grocery store. A Winn Dixie grocery store, a Kmart and a CVS are also very close to the motel.
The grounds of the motel are beautiful with palm trees, murals, picnic tables and seating areas, and a small pond. The Sea Dell is the epitome of an old time Keys motel that has been updated and modernized (for example, flat screen TV's in the rooms) but still retains the old time charm. When we were checking out, we were having an issue with our GPS, and the front desk clerk offered to print out directions to the airport for us, which we greatly appreciated. We would definitely stay at the Sea Dell again!!
