“Going to Goldhead!”

Yes, Goldhead does have its share of problems. But, if you truly take time to enjoy it, you will discover the true beauty of Goldhead. It has many trails to take, and the lakes have returned, so that you can swim here again. I would easily recommend Goldhead for the nature enthusiast.

Very misleading! There aren't any lakes. No swimming, no fishing and no canoeing! After my family traveled 400 miles to spend a nice holiday weekend getaway only to be dissppointed to find out from the ranger that the lakes haven't had any water in over 20 years. The bathroom shower stall doors are very short. You have to croutch down to take a shower or anyone walking in will be able to see everything. Ended our trip short because there is absolutely nothing to do here! Don't waste your time if you are looking for water activites.

We went back again as part of a large camping group during the beginning of November and stayed in the Lakeview camping loop (don't be fooled…you can't see any lake, they are all dried up) As with our last stays, we know what to expect form this wonderful example of central Florida camping. Lots of room and relaxation for our family…great park, very nice rangers, great amenities, and another consistent stay that the family enjoyed.

We camped in a 30foot travel trailer.

Room Tip: Go to this state park if you want to go and "unplug" from the norm…very quiet and full of...

So first they say there is swimming. There isn't. There's just one dirty lake and only about 25 sq ft is swimmable if you don't mind tadpoles, algae and aligators. Plus what they don't tell you but becomes obvious once you get here that their lakes weren't drained by a natural event but rather due to water being stolen by a private community nearby to fill their manmade lake. This place may be good for a 1hr hike but it is definitely not worth staying overnight. It does not live up to the high and wonderful standards set by other Florida state parks.

My family and I just camped in at GHB this past weekend and had a wonderful time! We stayed at site 15 on the Sandhill loop in a 30ft tt. In addition to typical central Florida April weather, we enjoyed the local squirrels, cardinals, dragon flies and lots of deer. The park was well kept, staff was polite, restrooms clean and a positive experience all around. Check local events, we caught the Strawberry Festival in Stark and took in all of the evening stars that we could find.

I agree with previous posters, this park is in the middle of the woods, the ranger station only sells wood, not an ice cube to be sold....anywhere (closest ice cube is a few miles west of the park gate at a convenience store, a bit further is Keystone Heights (Dollar General, CVS, ACE...etc.) If camping in the winter months, this park will get extremely COLD! Probably won't visit Gold Head until the cooler months come back as this is a WONDERFUL winter campground.

Fantastic Trip! We traveled with 5 Adults and 5 children under 5 years old. We had the best time! Campsite 22 and 21. The sites were huge and it was wonderful for the kids to have the opportunity to run around in the woods. Great Trip for the family!!!

We camped for one night in Gold Head Branch State Park on the Lake Loop (site 59).

Campground/Scenery:
The campground was filled to capacity the night we were there and it was a little noisy at night but the noise quieted down around 9pm and everyone was very respectful of their neighbors. We brought our bikes and the road are really nice to ride bikes on with lots of little hills and fun for the kids. The lake (by Lake Loop) is no longer dry (see other previous reviews) and we visited the ravine that had a strong little spring-fed creek running through it. My daughter loved the playground and the trees that seem to be made for climbing over in that area.

Bathrooms:
The bathrooms were the cleanest that we've seen in a campground and we actually met the cleaning crew during the day and they told us that they clean the bathrooms 3 times/day! They have hot running water with three double sized shower stalls, an outside sink area (for dishes, etc), washer/dryer(s) and a family restroom area.

One thing that I will say that is not positive is that my daughter ended up COVERED in ticks twice while we were there. The past winter was not very cold and ticks have been a problem this year. Make sure that you use bug spray to keep them off of you if you visit any time soon.
