“Lovely, casual atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

We checked this restaurant out on trip advisor and as it was within a shorting driving distance we thought we'd give it a go. The atmosphere, service and food were all very good. It's a small place but we phoned in advance and got a reservation for 4 quite easily. The menu is quite typical of the region but the fish in particular was very good. Also our kids received a warm welcome and throughly enjoyed the experience - the animal crackers given to them as they left were a nice touch. Homely food in a homely setting

“Great Food - Service, Not So Much”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

Our party of four and had a great meal. My Grouper was a very small, (probably less than four ounces), but cooked beatifully. I had a side of grilled asparagus and one of crawfish grits. The grits were smooth, creamy and delicious. We did have the key lime pie which was very nice. Our server, Daniellle was very friendly but woefully inefficient. The restaurant is small and there were two servers taking care of no more than six parties of 2 to 4 persons. Danielle regularly forgot to bring bread, drink refills and delivered our check without even asking about desert. I would go back for the food but would be happier with another server.

A word of caution: They close at 9:00 PM but often shut down earlier. Make a reservation and allow plenty of time to find the place - it's way out there.

“Lovely family meal!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2014 via mobile

Just had a lovely meal at Chef John's place. Big portions of beautifully cooked food (Chef John himself even came out to check that everything was ok!). Highly recommended if you are in the area. Just wish we had room to sample the desserts!

“Good food and a good price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

Kissimmee is an interesting place. On the main strip where your hotel is likely to be, it's tourist trap alley. There might be some good places there but they're probably tough to find. So it is with gratitude that I thank fellow TripAdvisor users for the recommendation of Chef John's Place.

When we punched in the address on our GPS, we were a little surprised it took us a decent little drive south of highway 192. But we stuck to it and are glad we did. The restaurant is rather unassuming in the corner of a small strip mall. It has a modest number of tables so I don't know what it would be like at rush hour. We stopped in at 2pm and were one of three parties in the place at the time. As some other reviewers may have mentioned, there's not a lot of room for strollers or large groups if the place is busy. However I found the restaurant to be clean and have a nice atmosphere.

Our server was very good and got our order correct and was pleasant and patient with us as we got acquainted with the menu. From the pictures on TripAdvisor I was execting more varieties of fish dishes. The lunch menu featured one main dish with a filet and pasta, and the rest was a variety of sandwiches, salads and appetizers.

We ordered an appetizer of fried okra and some of our party ordered the gumbo. Both were good. The gumbo was unique it that it had a lot of corn in it. It may not have been what people are used to compared to Cajun gumbo but we thought it was tasty.

The party also ordered a variety of items; the aforementioned fish dish, salads, and some of the sandwiches. Everything was well prepared and very satisfying. Chef John came out to check on us during the meal. We also shared two desserts, the key lime pie and the peach cobbler with ice cream. A great way to end the meal.

After eating ripoff park food and simple things like hamburgers and spaghetti in our hotel on vacation, this was a great place to go and have a real prepared meal. We will come again the next time we're in the area.
